Interesting comparison...I would only argue that SoT did not comprehend the error of his ways and WAS zealous for what he thought was right...but, yes...and I LOVE the Biblical reference...
So sad to think that all that kid had to do was three things and he’d probably be playing in the NFLmaking life changing income. Just play football, go to class, and don’t screw up, that’s it. The rest is already set up just rinse and repeat those three steps and you’re set kid. Couldn’t even do it for 1 year. The kid is incapable of not being a screw up, he’s had like 15 “second” chances and he’s barely old enough to drink. Just sad
I'm sure that you never made any mistakes in your late teens and early twenties. God knows that I made enough that I've often marveled publicly that I got through college and lived to adulthood. It appeared that he came from a more difficult situation than myself, so I'll cut him some slack. He didn't kill anybody and even his ex-girlfriend was rooting for him in life so I think we should be gracious towards him as well. Just imagine IF Johnny Rodgers had lived during these times of 24 hour news coverage and social media.
Watched a really good series on Netflix about Medal of Honor winners. One of the guys in Afghanistan who won was a real piece of work. Basically kicked out of the Marines, rejoined the Army, everyone hated him but then he continued to run through enemy fire to bring everyone shells and help save guys. Moral of the story was he made a lot of mistakes when he was younger, but then has morphed himself into a different person. Youngsters are more than likely going to do dumb ****. We shouldn't hold it over them for life.

My life has, in part, been defined by getting a second/third chance and grace from bad choices...blessings to Mo to make it better...

I did actually. I’m not saying I never made a mistake but I was a ten times better student and better athlete in college than I was in high school because I didn’t take my opportunity for granted and I respected my coaches family and teammates as well as myself too much to throw it away. The kid is a product of his environment to an extent but at some point you have to just stop making bad decisions, at some point you have to decide that you’re going to break the mold…or don’t.
At some point your environment has to stop becoming an excuse though. You either want it more than that other bull sh!+ or you don’t. I’m glad he’s getting a 30th chance I really am. But if I was Gramblings coach I would have a zero tolerance policy. You make any headline for a wrong reason, you show any indication that you’re back to your normal antics… you’re done...again.
How do you consider it his 30th chance? Wasn't it just the weed smoking and the video he got in trouble for or am I missing something here?
This is a thread about a college athlete, and then someone questions my opinion about a college athlete as if I lack perspective so I provide context as to why I don't lack perspective. But you're correct, giant set up. lol
He had lots of trouble in high school if my memory serves me correctly he went to like 3 different high schools in 4 years because he was getting in trouble then too. What people forget or fail to realize is there are plenty of things that happen with these kids that we never hear about. Or if we do hear about it it might be the tip of the iceberg. As I said I'm glad he's getting another chance. I just have zero sympathy or patience for kids who are consistently given chances that they disrespect. Maybe this time it will be different.
I remember the CU game in Boulder Frosts 2nd season. He was the best player on the field by a country mile. He was the one guy on our roster where I could point and say 'that kid can play on Sunday'

Alright man I'll give you a break from your Call of Duty tournament and play along for a second. A good friend of mine was a HB for UNL from 07'-11'. Not a scholarship kid but he did score a couple TD's in his career. There was a certain player on the team that was dismissed for violation of team rules for a seemingly small transgression. What no one in the public knew was that it was literally like the 7th time the kid had done it. The coaches were at a complete loss for words the final time. The coaches addressed the team with "look guys there's only so much we can do when someone doesn't want to help themselves." When I asked my buddy if that was seriously why the kid was getting kicked off the team his response to me was "bro you don't get it...that was the 3rd time this season, happened 3 times last season too, dude was begging for it."
Example 2) When I played our top NT was dismissed from the team for "violation of team rules." That "violation of team rules" was him bashing a beer bottle over someone's head and then trying to stab him with it. So I say again, sometimes these stories are just the tip of the iceberg.
