Transfer portal changing the game

Is it just me, or does this seem like it will have repercussions on recruiting out of the high school ranks?

I feel like we're on the precipice of the majority of high school players having little choice but the lower tier of G5 teams and FCS programs (aside from the upper echelon of recruits of course).

We could see the G5 and FCS become feeder leagues to P5 programs looking to get more sure things when acquiring the players to win now/continue winning. Not necessarily saying it's a harmful development... Just... Different...

5 years from now,
college football will be a semi pro league for the NFL. With the best players staying the minimum amount of time in college. If I had a billion $ I would start a D-league football program now, similar to the NBA. Paying kids a little more than NIL. College football is taking a downturn for the worse IMO!

Meh. There's a one time run on transfers right now. Remember it's a one time deal. There's a glut this year because not many people moved last year due to COVID. There are going to be dozens if not hundreds of kids left without a scholarship when the dust settles. At some point most of the kids are going to figure out that the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence. It does make it easier for kids to move up to bigger schools but the opposite of that is true as well. I watched a couple of former Husker walk ons play big roles for SDSU in their playoff game the other day. We'll lose more walk ons to FCS division teams and gain some scholarship kids back. In the long run I think it will be fine.

I hope you're right, or at least that somehow a well regulated minor league could be formed as was predicted in the comment just before yours before this all gets too out of hand.

Could you imagine being a decent 3 or even 4 star player used to hearing your peers of similar grade getting scholarships to play at a place like Nebraska, just to suddenly not be considered "good enough" to take a risk on as an unknown in favor of a FCS portal guy? Slap in the face, regardless of how proven that FCS guy might be!

My question about forming a new league...Could you generate the revenue needed to cover expenses.

I think College football even if all the best talent went to the new developmental league would still draw larger audiences due to pageantry, tradition and loyalty.

I do think over time a new league could overtake college, but it would take lots of time and lots of years losing money....Heck most college football programs lose money (if you look at all levels of college football)
