So Rattler said something dumb or cocky when he was one of the most highly recruited players in high school? Damn, he should probably be banished from organized sports. This board....

Smothers transfer if someone comes in with more than 1 year?
Last I heard, Nebraska was also bringing in Zach Gibson QB from Akron (RS Freshman). Looks like he started about 6 games for Akron.

(the following is 100% my opinion and semi-intelligent guestimations…..maybe not even semi-intelligent) :

If Gibson and Brennan accept, it will be pretty clear that Whipple will get to continue the offense he ran at Pitt, with traditional pro-style qbs. Haarberg would fit. Torres (incoming) would fit. 2024 QB Dylan Raiola would fit (fingers crossed). Unfortunately Smothers would not. It would be nice to see Smothers stay. He has elite speed, but it would all depend on his willingness to change positions.…….unless Whipple wants to run the Drew Brees - Taysom Hill type offense. Who knows…? But I think Whipple being hired sent a clear message to the style of offense and qbs Nebraska will be going with.

Of course, if they don’t shore up the offensive line, it’s going to be impossible to have any good consistency on offense.

Nobody (QB) is coming here to do jack until our O-Line gets a makeover…
I'm thinking trev seen ut's approach and has a 50+ grand per lineman charitable slush fund already at works behind closed doors. I don't need to know the specifics of it, just as long as it exists, and is ncaa compliant.
if iowa state pays more at oline, trev is in hot water..

frazier said let the players police the other players, so if rattle gets outta line, he can he thrown around a bit, as long as there's no permanent damage, especially to the arm, motor skills or legs....

Rattler hit just about every branch falling out of the ugly tree... But I'd absolutely take him over what we have had recently!

Can’t say I’m real familiar with either Brennan or Max Johnson. I know Brennan had injuries, but stats seem to show Johnson has proven more?

Rattler would be a great talent to acquire, and I’m not completely opposed. But I also prefer guys who can keep locker room together- so he seems mildly risky.

Johnson has more of a body of work, but Brennan is really good. Had over 1,100 yards and 10 TD’s in three games before he got hurt. PFF had him as the #9 QB in the NCAA coming into the season.

Rattler would be a top 10 Heisman candidate going into next year. Great exposure for Nebraska, proven talent. There would be nothing negative about adding Rattler. If this happens, then Trev deserves so much credit.
Which would a demotion from being the top Heisman candidate going into this year. It was an epic fall from grace. Everybody on that offense played harder once he got benched.

Y'all wanna win or not? We're at the point where some soul selling might be necessary if we actually want to win more than 5 games...

Yep
Riley was just worried that his offense was not looking as flashy...so he yanked him...
Not really.

He was benched after going 8-of-15 for 111 yards and 2 turnovers against a pillowy soft Texas defense which was on par with Northwestern this year.

They had to bring in Williams who torched that same weak *** defense.

Was that the game that ended up like 50-49?

Yeah...guess that pillowy soft OU D had nothing to do with it. OU let up 28 points in the first Q.

Nope. It was 55-48.

Lol. Yeah. Rattler got benched because the OU defense was causing him to turn the ball over like he was Adrian Martinez playing Rutgers.

It's pretty normal to be getting blown out when you're turning the ball over multiple times a quarter.

Hopefully Brennan will land here.

Go get Caleb Williams. He's the better player. With this whole transfer portal thing I would just take the QB who leaves Lincoln Riley or Ryan Day. Both those guys are known to develop QBs, and they both insist on bringing in a QB every single year.

we (talking posters here) looked off/dissed burrow, Dugan, and others, what makes anyone think we wouldn’t look off this exceptional arm talent…?
if we really have a shot - I’d say yes based on that alone.

Riley recruits QB’s more than develops them. Prior to Ratler, all his QB’s were transfers.

Rattler can make downfield throws that no QB in NU history (outside maybe Ferragamo) could make. We want him. He has tens of millions of dollars of reason to make this a great season and show great leadership.

I would bet Martinez hit more long passes per game than Rattler did this year.

Not sure why you’re worried about him transferring? It’s time to move away from this RPO bs anyway. It’s producing limited wins and the (Pass) portion is inconsistent at best.
You do realize the Whipple’s offense has a lot of RPO elements right?

I understand where you’re coming from as far as elements of an RPO, however Pickett passed for 4,319 yards w/ 42 td’s and rushed for 241 yards. IMO those stats look closer to a pro style than an RPO.
