I know there has been talk of Gabriel from UCF and Rattler from OU.

From this article it looks like they are going after Myles Brennan from LSU. Joseph and Busch visiting today.

I'd like to see us add a guy like this with only one year left, as well as a guy with multiple years left.

He already came out and said Dawson was doing a fine job as special teams coach... Would leave us without an RB coach
Okay, I guess since our ST are fine then we have nothing to worry about. I don't think it's as cut and dried as you say.

I'm happy with Wipple as coach, he will teach our QB's to not throw with their elbow down below their shoulders! This will help our freshman QB's alot!

ST cost us two more games since then and there have also been reports we intend to hire a ST coach.

There is no chance anyone, anywhere, actually thinks that someone is doing a "fine" job with special teams here.

And since making that statement, NU gave up a KOR TD and had a punt blocked, likely costing them 2 games. Hopefully Frost is out of his denial phase.

That statement doesn’t come close to the certainty of your “he won’t be” post.

The visit means interest..no doubt about it. But it does not mean he is top choice. We have two LSU coaches on our staff so it makes sense to contact both LSU qbs. Also, the “whole staff visit” is also overblown. With Mickey just leaving LSU it makes 100% sense to do a full court press on portal kids as well as local kids he was recruiting.

I’d like to see chin coach the outside linebackers Dawson go to another school and hire Busch to coach special teams and assist in outside linebackers I’m really not impressed with Dawson but that’s just my opinion

Zach Gibson will be on campus, too. Perhaps looking to take in both of them. Best case scenario, IMO. That would give Gibson and Haarberg a year to learn the new offense, be mentored by Brennan, and battle for the starting spot in 2023.

Yeah, special teams are doing wonderful...
People act like Scott Frost doesn’t care about special teams. But my sources say that Scott scheduled the special teams time to practice several times last season.

Why would you leave out Smothers who will only be a Sophomore?

Well, really moving Busch downstairs to the field I don't think would change the problems that we had on the field anyway. They've addressed punter and kicker in this recruiting class already. Busch can easily relay to the field what needs to be done and direct practice special teams coaching. 90+% of our special teams break downs were the guys putting their foot on the ball. I was an advocate for hiring a full time special teams coordinator but logically I see the reasoning behind standing pat. I suspect that we'll ditch the blocking formation that we saw with that blocked punt. That or maybe our punter will be coached to call a time out if he sees that shift at the last second from the defense.

I think you're off base on Dawson as far as his coaching. The only breakdown I saw that could be laid on a coaching failure was that punt block but even then IF I were that punter I'm calling a timeout when I saw how Iowa shifted. Even given that, the reason that guy got a free run at the punter was one of our up backs not recognizing his responsibility. That was a real brain fart that should have been obvious to him. He doubled inside instead of at least attempting a reach block outside.

It's not just the specialists. Our return game was dogshit
Yep.

If we are not going to do anything different with special teams, I'll give Trev a huge discount on ST coordinator.

For 1/4 the price they are currently paying the current coordinator, I'll print up a huge banner to be permanently hung at practice:

"Fair catch every single ball you can get to on punt and kickoff returns"

There. Done.

Simple, effective, saves $$$, and accomplishes the exact same thing as our 2021 return game.

just get a rb coach then:
if your punting or a kick off...have a lb or db coach, coach that because it involves fast guys tackling, it's mostly defense
if your returning, have a rb or wr coach, coach that because it's mostly fast guys returning and blocking
if your doing a field goal or extra point, have a ol coach, coach that because you mostly just need big dumb fat guys blocking people

then you just have a coach, coach the kicker and holder..that could be someone else, maybe the qb coach cause the qb and kicker are kinda the same..both put the ball thru the air to score points, and it's mechanics but a lot of mental stuff too

Actually, we didn’t fair catch every kickoff and punt last year. But we should have, because when we didn’t, the results were not good.
