his is an interesting story. The guy was never a head coach when he got the BYU job. I remember people being extremely skeptical of that hire. His biggest claim to fame maybe was having been the DC at Oregon State. A college fullback, most of his college jobs were as a defensive assistant. He struggled horribly his first year at BYU. The one thing he had going was a passion for his alma mater. He hired good assistants and let them coach. He's returned BYU to being a respectable college football program and will probably be there for life.

The state of Utah had a pretty good year overall for football.
My post kind of sounds like an add for BYU but I really respect what their administration did there. They hire an alum and stuck with him after just a disastrous first year. Mind you they weren't playing in the SEC that first year. There were getting destroyed. Kind of a feel good story for a coach who not many people gave a shot to succeed and who seems to be a good dude.

I assume you’re trying to make a comparison Frost. If my assumption is wrong, I apologize.

If you are making a comparison to Frost, you’re trying to compare a guy who hired competent assistants at the beginning and had one disastrous year compared to a coach who had four disastrous years and needed an A.D. to step in the fourth year and force him to make staff changes?

I see very little correlation besides both coaches are alumnus.

You assume incorrectly. I knew somebody would go where you just went. Frost has had 4 years and hasn't done what BYU has. Of course BYU isn't playing in the B1G either. He's just a guy I thought of when all of the schools are chasing the sexy hires and paying out millions of dollars. Even though he was a DC previously I don't think he even calls his own defense.

He spent 1 year at Oregon State vs 6 as the DC at Utah.
