when the punt got blocked I thought we are going to lose this game. Am i the only one that thought that. when nebraska lost even through year 2 of frost I was pissed. Now I just laugh it off as the comedy of errors it has become. One more thought, the pig farmer turned Ill around year one, Tucker turned Mich St around year 2. At the end of year 4 we are worse. The scoreboard doesnt say CLOSE anywhere.

No, I would bet that most Nebraska fans thought that.

Majority thought it, including our team. Frost said "that was the game" in his presser. When Frost says that the kids believe they can win, he's blowing smoke OR he doesn't get it. You don't have these many close losses with just bad coaching, there is a void in leadership. Without leadership, the mounting losses leads to more and more self-doubt. But, I'm ready for it to pop! I wonder what that'll look like . . . 6 - 6, maybe even 7 -5!?

Not real proud of it, but I flew back from Raleigh, NC from my son’s for Thanksgiving especially to see us
beat the Hawks and spoil their chance at the West title. When the punt block happened I had told my wife prior to the punt,
we need a time out to make sure we’re set right to avoid what we could see they were setting to do, boom it happened
and I knew it was over with there special teams vs ours. We left and listened to on the radio on the way home and the expected outcome happened , very sad ending for those kids who really played hard.

Not only did I think we would blow the lead, I felt SF play calling after that wasn’t the same calls he was calling in the 1st half..

From that moment moving forward the whole games turned like a flip of the switch just like the Michigan State game..😩

I turned it off immediately following the blocked punt. Only the 4th game in my life that I quit watching. 3 of which have come in the last 2 seasons.

I was on the college football game thread post on Reddit. Once the punt was blocked, everyone from Nebraska fans to fans of other team knew this was the mistake that leads to us losing the game.

The whole country seems to know that given enough time, we will eventually beat ourselves by going "full Nebraska." We didn't disappoint them or prove them wrong by fumbling, giving up a safety, and throwing interceptions.

The only good thing is the team doesn't give up and plays with a lot of heart, but we need to hire an offensive staff that can change the mindset when bad things happen.

it's definitely a mental thing..the teams we choke against just seem to want it more...hopefully the new coaching on offense and special teams can bring about more desire to win....I can't add the defense because most the season they did all they could...and then just buckled a bit the last 2 games from the weight of carrying the offense and special teams all season.

No, that thought was original just to you. Not one of us who has have watched every game this season thought for a second that we were going to lose that game after special teams had yet another breakdown.

Also, thanks for pointing out that there is is no close on the scoreboard. Until right now most of us had no idea.

1. Yes I knew the game was over after the blocked punt. The TV announcers knew it too and said so. Anyone watching knew it.

2. There is only one way to describe the second half play calling. Mind numbing. It’s like we took everything that was successful in the first have and flushed it before we took the field in the second half. The option plays that we’re so effective in the first half we’re virtually non-existent in the second in favor of a bunch of swing passes.

3. Why was Allen not the feature during much of the second half and especially in crunch time? We have arguably the best TE in program history. A guy who very well could be playing on Sunday’s next year. He’s reliable catching the ball and a load to bring down after the catch. I think it’s a damn shame how under utilized Allen was.

I noticed that. UN had a third and short and as I recall they ran a couple pass plays that failed. It seems to me running Smothers to the outside or an option was a pretty sure way to gain a couple yards. It sure seemed to work in the first half.

The most uttered phrase in the state of Nebraska when that happened was, "Here we go again."

I know I said it.

I don't understand the "play calling" complaint. You surely realize that teams adjust/change their defense right? Iowa took away the outside, it isn't difficult to do. All plays do not just magically work no matter what the D is.

The swing passes were check downs. Frost didn't trust and Iowa wanted Smothers to throw down the middle. If he didn't see someone open quickly, he checked down. That is why throwing on first down was successful, thr D was playing to stop the run.

It is basic football. You adjust the D according to what the O is doing, it's a game in itself.

I thought we were gonna lose as soon as we went 3 and out on that drive. The punt being blocked only solidified it for me.
