Worst outcome is he goes 6 and 6 and we're stuck with him for more years.

Best, but saddest outcome is he goes four and 8 and we can him.

Agree. I think with a few tweaks to the schemes we could see significant improvement.

Fix the blocking, you open up the run, and you give the QB time to read. Fix the QB coaching to learn how to read quicker. Modify play structure to lean towards the talent.

Get a few upgrades at a few spots in the portal, and you could see a much different team. HAVE to get a QB and an OT or 2.
Amazing, wonder why Scott never thought of any of this?

Frost said in the postgame that special teams must get better.

I’m tellin’ ya, not even the smallest detail gets past this guy.

No. Trev was brought in for one reason. He is a professional college football program chloroformer. One of the best there is according to the folks out East.

Until your coach runs changes and holds players accountable the losing will continue. Nebraska came into the big ten thinking it would be easy. You used to have a program based on toughness. Frost has created an atmosphere that lacks discipline. Until that is fixed you won't ever get your situation fixed.

No. In the aggregate, it’s obvious that we don’t do any real serious work on special teams. We can’t make field goals. We don’t return punts or even attempt block them. Kickoffs are meh, we gave up a TD and field position time and time again. Our punt return game is atrocious, we had a safety on a punt return and then one today as a result of a blunder on a punt return. In Frost’s tenure we’ve seen some totally inexplicable blunders on STs, and the only thing that explains them is not taking it seriously.

Another fun thought, we had the SF special, a delay of game coming out of a possession change. I watch a lot of football, volume in CFB and NFL and we are the only team that does that about once a game. It’s comical
The delay of game was during the first play after the opening kickoff. Frost held them in a huddle by the sideline until there were 18 seconds on the play clock and then they trotted out.

No, because it is way more than special teams. For what possible reason do you run three pass plays from your own 6 with a QB starting his first game when you are still ahead in the game? And on the last drive there was plenty of time and 3 timeouts. Why not work a few runs or screen into the mix to keep their D somewhat honest? You can't blame that on Lubick, we can all see where the inferior play calling comes from now Lubick is gone.

We know we have Frost for another year. Some of the other pieces are unknown. What needs to happen for a successful 2022?
Frost needs to learn how to humble himself and confront the actual problems. He's too idealistic in his game plan...it does not work against big boy teams that make adjustments. This idea of him being HC and OC while other areas of the team go to **** needs to be over.

Look, they made a slam dunk hire with D Line...they are capable of bringing on great staff. They need to ditch this BS of scripting the entire game....other teams adjust on the fly and I think that's why we seems to clam up. We get scared...we try something on 1st down and it doesn't work and we don't know how to get out of our own way...Basically I'm saying Frost needs to hire an OC that is THE OC...not Frost's goon that calls plays until Frost gets uncomfortable. Pay someone and let them work. If Frost does that and then oversees the entire team and basically acts as quality assurance by fixing the little details (remember how it's the little things each game?) then they might be good.

My prediction is that will not happen.

Sadly, this is the new NU.

The Big Ten creates this idea that 8 wins is amazing.
8 wins in the B1G is kind of amazing actually.

Gone are the days of the old Big Eight and Big-12. There are no automatic wins in the B1G like those early conferences we were in: no Kansas, no Iowa St, no Baylor.

I pains me to say this but now we are those cupcake teams. Our program is a loser program, with a losing mentality. They had Iowa on the ropes and they don’t know how finish a game. They are totally ok with losing. Until they get a group of players that drastically change the culture, the losing will continue.

Someone who habitually ignores details isn't going to change their stripes. The details couldn't be more important and he glosses over them. I don't see any way how this ends well

It won't happen. We need to be able to run the ball. Like Iowa. No million fakes. QB under center and hand it off so the RB already has some momentum without having to make a 90 degree turn. And even #8 never broke anything long on the option.

you mean like the team that needed

a blocked punt returned for a TD
a safety

And then a crazy pick?

Look, sister, it was not their "running game" that caused issues.

I have mentored people who habitually ignored details turn it around and pay attention to details and a few even became "anal" about details. But those people were willing to change and not cocksure thinking they had all the answers.

We will use the next 39 bye weeks to heal up, work on some things, and come back looking like we were playing xbox the whole f*cking time.

EDIT- For all those posters who were saying a monkey could win 9 games at Nebraska: Have you found one of those ***damned monkeys yet? Because if you have, that would be great.

Sadly again there are way to many things to fix and frost won’t be able to or unwilling to do so, look he needed help on the oline after year one and nothing fixed his special teams were a disaster from day one, he hitched his wagon to Adrian and failed. He will be fired next year, my prediction we lose to northwestern in game 1

I suppose it's possible but I have my doubts. I think what improvement we may see next season will be the result of slight improvement amd an easier schedule to play.

I don't see Frost working out at Nebraska. I'm no seer, anything can happen I suppose but I just don't see it.

The ST was brutal in every single game. Not just today, every single game.
What's even more brutal is Frost saying the game was lost after that blocked punt. Still up 21-16 and he is too busy fearing failure than winning the game. Frost just doesn't have a winning mentality and next season is going to be even worse.

I apologize for not watching post-game comments from Frost, but did he really say that?? I mean **** - you could see that on his face watching him on the sideline - and the players too. I was like WTH - you are WINNING by 5 points in the 4th quarter - ******* man up and put this game away.

NOT A LEADER.

I watched the replay on YouTube. Frost does all of these goofy plays that accomplish nothing. For example, there was a play in the 3rd qrtr where someone goes into motion and then does a complete loop around the QB prior to the snap. Such clownassery. He should have been fired.

Fixing special teams and putting a priority on special teams goes beyond just hiring a new coach. It needs to be addressed in recruiting. Ashton Hayes is the only scholarship recruit that Frost has ever addressed special teams with during a recruiting cycle. Cerni technically was I guess but not really.

The philosophy can’t be filling Special Teams with walk-ons as the awarded playing time for hard work.

Position coaches need to be on their younger scholarship guys barred on the depth chart about playing SPT and going at it with 100%.

And we need to get rid of this “scared little *****” mentality on SP Teams. Our kickers are scared. Our cover units are scared. God knows Oliver Martin is scared. We need some dam Swag on special teams badly.

we need to stop looking at special teams as risky and start looking at it as opportunities.

remember when we had actual return men and they could swing the momentum back in our favor?

Scott pretends he knows these things but hasn’t done a dam thing to change it. Have we had a single TD on Special Teams while Frost has been the coach?

It’s not just “scared little *****“ mentality on ST but offensive playcalling as well. Going into year 5 and Frost can’t understand why he is losing. Even worse he thinks he is doing everything right and just getting unlucky so he doesn’t feel he needs to change anything.

I’m wonder how much control he will be willing to give up to a new OC. I can see a lot of potential hires refusing the job because of lack of control.

He was absolutely right. Earlier in the 2nd half I posted that we couldn't afford a turnover or return TD. THAT play changed the entire game. We weren't able to consistently move the ball after Iowa figured out what to do to stop our QB option game and we couldn't stop their offense. They drove it down the field on us multiple times only to settle for field goals until we gave up that damned blocked punt TD. Big MO changed on the spot. Their D came out with their hair on fire. The only thing that could have maybe changed that was if we could have run the ball inside and we gave up after a few feeble tries. We just fell apart in the 4th quarter. In spite of all that we drove the ball down the field with a chance to tie it in the 2 minute drill and our QB and WR didn't hook up mentally.

Yeah, they are a tuff generation on that. They’d rather not try then fail. I feel like the complete opposite of the punk rock generation X’ers a lot of us are (which Scott is). We grew up with the “no fear” mentality.

But I have some Gen Z young employees on my team at work. You just gotta figure out what makes them click and you can still get them to buy in.

I’ve some time wonder if this is one of Scotts big issues. He definitely thinks he’s still the coolest guy in the world and 22 years old. But honestly his personality couldn’t be more opposite then Gen Z. Eventually he will need to realize you can’t be their friend, you have to be their leader. It’s ok if they don’t think your cool. But it’s not ok if they don’t trust you or think your competent

I don't think Alberts brought back Frost because he felt he could put out a great 2022 season. I think the recent Frost saga was primarily to negotiate down a huge buyout so that he'd be in better position to fire Frost after 2022 if that's what he needed to do.
