I was just curious who **** the bed. I'm not sure what the logic is in letting a guy come up the middle untouched, but we still had the numbers to block the play. Instead, Snodgrass got fixated with the guy up the middle and let the outside guy go by without even glancing at him. Just a basic football play that we fail miserably at. I really nerded out and timed the punter, seems like he wasn't slow as some have suggested. Every game we lose its the easy fundamentals that kill us.

Kinda looked like the 3 upbacks didn't see the overload and did not shift to that side

I’m an Iowa fan that has been browsing the boards off and on all week. Just had to comment. You sir, are a masochist. When Iowa loses a game that way I’m throwing things at the tv, not watching a replay. Congrats on your fandom, I hope your heart can take the blood pressure.

Nobody on the line touched anybody it seemed like and left 3 guys to block 5. That never works out well.

Hawk fan here. I have to say we know how to pick out spots. I’m 99% positive that we’ve attempted to block a punt two times this year, with today being the lone success. Got super close one other time. Otherwise, it’s rushing three and dropping 7 to block for Charlie Jones. Just a well timed play call on Iowa’s end. And nothing we’ve shown so much that your special teams guy would spend a lot of time scheming against.

Good game, y’all.

If there was ever a textbook spot for a punt block, that was it. The fact Nebraska wasn't ready for it tells you what you need to know about our ST coaching.

I imagine Trev has stipulated you’ll hire a full time special teams coach in 22. Levar Woods has been incredible for us.

I haven't watched the tape yet, but it appeared for some reason the punter was 3-4 yards closer to the line than usual. I was worried he was too close even before the play started. Something looked off kilter from the get go.

Which is another example why Frost is poison. NU will never be a consistent winner without the ability to execute basic football fundamentals. He and his staff have shown in the last 4 years they are incapable of it..

You forced me to go back and watch it again. He was 15 yards deep, standard depth. Just terrible blocking.

What I remember as well. Left side looked overloaded and our well coached special teamers didn't adjust at all
On top of that I think the guy on the outside edge squeezed down instead of kicked out. Whole thing was a cluster ****

I just rewatched it and he was at the right depth. There were numerous problems. First they let the D come to them and it was too late. We always taught to block from the inside out meaning the inside man coming has the most direct line so you get him first but stepping up, not waiting for him to come to you. Then someone has to account for the outside guys. There should have been communication taking place presnap as Iowa overloaded to that side and we just stood there like frozen trees. That is coaching, pure and simple and really bad at that.

They are seeing scenarios which they are totally unprepared for. That is coaching

gotta wonder what the record is if Frost would have paid better attention to special teams. Might be his biggest mistake.

Big time. Imagine if ST wear actually a plus for us this year. Could have won ALOT more games.

43 nonoffensive points allowed, and all 9 losses were by a total of 59 points. Unreal.

Im seriously not trying to rub it in, but it blows my mind that Frost doesnt put an emphasis on special teams. Its a must in the big ten and there is a reason that so many coaches in this conference have emphasized it. This isnt the conference USA. Field position is the name of the game in the Big10.

Only reason Iowa is 10-2 this season is special teams. Kickoff returns, punt returns, blocked punts: 18/21 fgs, numerous times teams are pinned down inside the 5. It’s a huge factor that bad teams overlook.

It's ok you can't block for punts, you still had some cute gimmick plays on offense to make up for it.

And this is why I have hope for next year. If we clean up special teams we would have beat a ton of ranked teams this year. We're so close. Fix the broken areas with new coordinators.
Great. In year 5, Frost comes to the conclusion that special teams matter.

Let’s not ignore that those safeties are on our punt returners too. Oliver Martin played a big roll in yesterdays, for sure. He even gets 5 yards on that return, it changes everything. We can’t have these scared little boys returning punts anymore. We need crazy athletic dudes with good vision. No more punt safe return. Have a dam pair of balls for a change
