Two schools of thought
1: Luck changes. NU is 5-6 plays/calls away from being undefeated
2: Coaching is what it is
You pick.
Sadly, this is the new NU.If you consider 8-5 "fixed", sure.
Must go spend whatever it takes to bring in a high level ST coach. Believe they had the chance to get Sean Sutton, but didn't because they only wanted to make him an analyst. Huge mistake.
Why are you guys thinking about special teams? No one cares about that boring crap, and yoked bros like Frost know they aren't real football players anyway. Is it fixable? You mean, can we fix the punt team so we can win the 3 games they cost us and go to a bowl?
....... maybe.
Agree. I think with a few tweaks to the schemes we could see significant improvement.Hopefully we will also upgrade our coaching staff.
If he makes smart hires, yes. If the hires are lazy and bad, then no hope.We know we have Frost for another year. Some of the other pieces are unknown. What needs to happen for a successful 2022?
So, we have exactly what you describe on #1 today. Our OLB is our STC.Fixable means the following to me for the 2022 season. Possible yes, likely don’t know
1-special teams coordinator, can be a position coach as well(say OLB) if needed. No more analysts for this or spread out over different coaches.
2-OL coach with strength coach gets the line more explosive in power and the offense is more power run based.
3-defense gets a more nasty streak that hopefully gets more sacks and tackles for loss. Have to get off the field on third down better as well.
Because of a blocked punt? It’s clear we don’t give a damn about special teams and we don’t practice it. The same head coach is coming back who doesn’t believe in ST, so nothing will change. Same undisciplined football with the same inadequate leader. Ceiling next year is 3 wins.
Frost is the guy who has administered the mess we have today and he is still the man in charge. So if you believe that a group of assistants can come in, overrule Scottie on his ideas, run with their own ideas and get the buy-in of the players - yeah, maybe. We know we have Frost for another year. Some of the other pieces are unknown. What needs to happen for a successful 2022?
No. In the aggregate, it’s obvious that we don’t do any real serious work on special teams. We can’t make field goals. We don’t return punts or even attempt block them. Kickoffs are meh, we gave up a TD and field position time and time again. Our punt return game is atrocious, we had a safety on a punt return and then one today as a result of a blunder on a punt return. In Frost’s tenure we’ve seen some totally inexplicable blunders on STs, and the only thing that explains them is not taking it seriously.Because of a blocked punt?
Our STC has to be there primary not secondary focus. So, we have exactly what you describe on #1 today. Our OLB is our STC.
Wont argue #2
#3 they did ok most of the year. With Jojo going down, it really made them change how they operated. We still need to figure out how to get a rush from the 3-5 upfront guys.
Arranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Except, this ship is the S.S. Minnow. We know we have Frost for another year. Some of the other pieces are unknown. What needs to happen for a successful 2022?
JoJo didn’t get hurt. Our STC has to be there primary not secondary focus.
Jojo getting hurt really changed the defense as well as other injuries. Our DL has to get nastier and more explosive. Size and power without speed doesn’t get it done.
Get some NFL guys back to teach over the summer during workouts. No coaches just former Huskers reinstalling things lost.
In Trev we trust. Just have to endure one more year of Frost before he can clean house and reboot the program.
Hand surgery isn’t hurt????JoJo didn’t get hurt.
Exactly. It is what it is.We know Frost is here next year so those saying to get rid of him need to come up with a new answer.
