If I was on our defensive staff, I would probably get out now rather than waiting to see if our 1 year desperate experiment with new offensive coaches works.

The other one that must be having doubts is Frost’s spouse. Kind of wonder what she thought of him gambling away 7.5 million guaranteed.

Such an odd scenario all around. If a similar arrangement has ever happened like this in college football, I am not aware of it. Seems desperate with low likelihood of success and many variables.

Hes not getting fired because he’s done a great job. Our defense is the only unit playing well consistently. I don’t see him leaving, but he could get some offers.

I wouldn't be surprised if Fisher and Tuioti leave. Fisher probably wants to get back down South, and programs like Florida and LSU will be hiring new coaching staffs. Tuioti probably wants to get back to the West Coast, and USC will be hiring a new staff.

Chinander has more loyalty to Frost and is a Midwest guy. But I could see him leaving if he got offered a head-coaching job at a mid-major school.

I think everybody that didn’t get fired are making sure their networking channels are open, and they are more open to changing jobs than they were before. But they are all well paid, and many options would involve a pay cut today that you don’t have to take. But if they can find right combo of pay/security/location/prestige, then an assistant could jump ship early. My guess is that none do though.

Chinander will no doubt get some looks from teams putting together a new staff. He will probably be on the list for some fcs head coaching jobs. This is normal for any good coordinator.

He doesn't have to worry that his job is in jeopardy nor should any coach on defense. The firing is over.

Fisher is the most marketable. Interviewed with Georgia last year. I'm sure the sharks will circle again this year.

He's done a great job this year with a lot of super seniors. However the first 3 years with a lot of the same players was pretty mediocre. Even this year, we're still average within the Big 10 in terms of defensive performance. Although I'm happy with the defensive performance this year, I have doubts Chinander can sustain that success. I also have doubts Chinander is the absolute best we can get considering Iowa and Wisconsin have put up better defenses every year.

Let’s see if he can sustain this for a few more years before thinking he’s on the top market and being courted by the SEC.

IMO, he's only still here due to all the 6th year seniors, trust that they can't possibly reload the talent going out the door on D in one cycle without going deeeep (way deeper than HCSF wants too) into the free agency market........

I have no clue whatsoever BUT what if a big boy program down in Florida like FLORIDA for instance were to offer Chin the job with a huge raise? Would he listen? If he left would he take a guy like Fisher with him?

Honestly, I do NOT talk with my son about Erik. I wouldn't expect my son to try to pry things out of Erik just due to friendship. Nor would I expect Erik to betray Frost on football goings on.

I do know, and a lot of folks on here know also, Frost and Erik have been very good friends for a long time. It obvious to me, regardless of what happens at NU in the short or long term, both of those guys have long coaching careers in front of them.

It may work for many years at NU. If Frost is fired, then maybe Chin is retained or fired also. Its possible they reunite in the near future at another P5 schools as an OC and DC or LB coach.

Just from my perspective. Erik is 41, has a nice wife and children, lives in Lincoln and makes 16K a week. That's a nice gig, and Chin is a conservative type guy so now doubt he has a lot of dough in the bank.

I've never met him, but my son has spoken well of Erik since they both were at Iowa and my son mentored him, even though they were both college kids. And by mentoring, I don't mean anything about football.

By the time my son signed with Iowa he had been in 11 foreign countries through athletics, and Erik was a kid from Iowa who was just a nice kid to communicate with. Erik is a very humble young man according to my son.
They just have a really nice, and not intrusive, friendship.

Only if he is smart and doesn’t stay on sinking ship. Everyone wanted to ride him out on the rails his first two years. He is loyal though and coordinators don’t pay the same price as failed HCs.

Team defense was a nice surprise. If he can add some pass rushers, it might be great. He might have an opportunity to make a lateral move, but I wouldn’t expect any P5 schools to give him a look as a head coach.
