Service men & women are braver than I, more dedicated than I so I am forever humbled by and thankful for your service.

Blessings to all...a special thanks to my nephew, still active, my grandfather who served in WW1, and Kristen, captain of our tennis team in 2008, graduated West Point, served 5 years, some in areas of harm.

Thank you Veterans!
Let's not forget HuskerOnline member Redinwashington, he's a retired E-9 which is Chief Master Sergeant, the highest ranking Non Commissioned Officer in the military. It generally takes almost 30 years in service to achieve that high ranking.

This is a man who has given to his country. I was Air Force and was only 3 1/2 years in service and I got out as a Sergeant. But, the reason for this post is to recognize Redinwashington.

As someone who was scared to death of getting drafted and having to go to Vietnam, thank you for what you've done for our country. You go get all that you can. The Vietnam war ended just before I would have been draft eligible. I had classmates who lost dads and brothers over there. Now, I would be proud and a little less nervous about if one of my children decided to enlist but it is still a huge sacrifice to give up your own career freedom to enter the military. Thank You!.

Except he was in the Navy. The highest enlisted rank in the Navy is MCPON (Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy) which is E-9. You can be MCPO (Master Chief Petty Officer) as well as CMCPO (Command Master Chief Petty Officer), all E-9.

Thanks for the clarification. My point stands that E9 is a high grade NCO.

Went to the local Veteran's Day parade, today. Flagbearers from the American Legion, Boy Scouts, a small group of local military personnel, the two high school bands and most importantly about three dozen old veterans lined up. It was pretty great to be able to show support for those old guys. (When I was a kid even into my high school years I can remember when the older veterans were from WWI. Now the old guys most likely served in Vietnam. We lost my Uncle Jack this August. He was 94 and in the Navy during the last year of WWII. So maybe there might of been some WWII and Korean War Vets)

That is very kind of you. And I salute all those who served no matter the years, it’s a sacrifice. I would also like to thank all of those who didn’t serve. No matter the reason. I thank you because without you. We wouldn’t be able to do what we do/did. Our military requires a robust economy. And make no mistake the tax payers are our life blood. Buy working and paying taxes you (the non military guys and gals) provided me with the best tools in the world to protect all of our freedoms. So here’s to you.
PS. In the Navy E9 is Master Chief.

I was honored to specifically highlight your career. Hope you had a great day.
