Offense sounds like it's gonna be different

Rumors seem to suggest that the Frost/Kelly offense we've had so far will be abandoned to some degree. I've even seen some folks rumoring that we're exploring going to I formation but with little emphasis on triple option. Would be cool IMHO. We have the personnel for it already other than QB... Gotta find a new one regardless what we run.

We'll know better once we know who is the OC if they're gonna legit assume play calling responsibilities from Frost, or if he's just going to be a Frost puppet. Sounds like they're transitioning toward the former though. Let's hope, because we need identity on offense.

Sounds like Frost’s role in the program is to just stand there on the sidelines during games and then talk about the good ole days at luncheons to appease parts of the fan base.

I read into Trev's comments that Frost needs to be more of the CEO. Get a young whiz kid and let the two of them design it. But on GameDay, back away from playcalling. Focus on game strategy, *** chewings and working the zebras.

Which comes first.....the offense type or the offensive coordinator hire?
That's a great question... One would assume Scott & Trev know what they want to run and would find that guy that fits the plan... that said, if someone popped up like Herman and he didn't fit the plan would they adjust so quickly to a guy like that if he's available? time is of the essence and given the situation I'm not sure NU can be overly specific

If you can get a Tier 1 OC, then get him and let him have influence on type of offense.

Otherwise, decide on offense type and go find an OC that already runs something similar. Best you can find.

In his PC today he said he's looking for new ideas and not wholesale changes. He knows what he wants to do and now he'll find someone to help him do it.

Sounds like we are adjusting to the big ten rather than vice versa as had been so boldly predicted.

It was stated in the Ohio State game that Frost wants to go to more of the option attack. Anyone can go and rewatch the Ohio State game to get the quote.

As long as the offense is run focused through the RB and OL, then things will imrove. If it still requires the QB to be the center point, then things will end up a complete failure and Frost will get fired after a 5th losing season.

Whether it is 2 TE option, or spread option, doesnt really matter, but if it is anything like UCF/Oregon stupidity, then Frost's career as a head coach is over.

The QB isn't the center point of an option offense?

Was it really boldly predicated? the word HOPING isn't a real bold prediction. What is crazy is that comment got more applause than anything else he said. So yeah, he was wrong. But it really wasn't a bold statement and really not anything a lot of coaches would say.

"On Sunday, Scott Frost was asked how he would modify his offensive system to work in the Big Ten. Without hesitation, Frost responded, ' I'm hoping the Big Ten has to modify their system to us.'
His answer drew the loudest applause of the afternoon, and here's guessing it got Husker Nation fired up, too."

If we get Peetz like seems to keep popping up...I could see it go either way. Maybe more under center Mcvay type of pro spread, or spruce up what we've already got

I so badly want Tom Herman here... just makes the most sense with his history at OSU and the way he runs his offenses... Perhaps I'm wishing for too much

After watching the press conference. Here is my take aways

The offense will continue to be a spread offense.
His comments about Beckton led me to believe this, wanting to "keep someone around who knows how we run things"
Having absolute trust in the guy he hires as OC, another point that leads me to believe it will continue to be a spread. You aren't going to have trust in someone that you just met. Nearly every coach he has worked with, as a coach, is only familiar with a Kelly type offense.

My first reaction, is that it will be Helfrich.

Every single time I think you have written the silliest thing, you prove me wrong and come up with something even more ridiculous.
You are one of those dumb pass first Texans that don't have a ******* clue what it takes to win in the Big Ten. You don't need an elite QB to win a conference championship in the Big Ten if the offense is run through the RB, TE, and OL, which is what a heavy run-based offense does.

They worked together at Oregon, I think he would be a great hire.

Frost and Lubick also worked together at Oregon.

I'm not sure I understand firing Lubick, only to hire Helfrich. They all come from the Chip Kelly tree at Oregon. Why not just give Lubick the play-calling duties?

can someone explain to me why the power I wouldn't work today? With the caveat of a mixed in triple/speed option

I go back and watch those 90s games. I loved the 22 personnel and the 12 personnel packages of just keeping it simple, yet, have 5 play rotation of perfection. With defenses getting smaller and faster to adjust to having more modified LBs that can play nickel - I wonder what a big OL, FB and 2 nasty TEs would accomplish.

ETA - I do think recruiting WRs and QBs would suffer

Frost needs to start winning next year or he is gone. He isn’t going to do that by scrapping our offense and starting from scratch. That’s a multi-year project.
