Early thoughts on the Wisconsin game

They are averaging a little over 7 points a game (7.4) given up in their last 5 games.

Early in the season Wisconsin was atrocious on offense but they have some things going on that side of the ball now.

Challenges for this game:

1: Wisconsin does not allow you to run between the tackles all game long. You will not be able to put together an 80 yard drive against their front 7 by running the ball between the tackles. You have to hit outside and with AM injured, we aren't going to be able to exploit that weakness that easily like we have had in the past games.

2: You aren't going to be able to put several scoring drives together against their D.

3: They are creating several turnovers in the last handful of games.

4: WI rushing game is going to have success against our D.

It's really hard to see this being more than a 27 to 10 type of game - with Wisconsin winning.

If we’re blown out by Wisconsin the fire Frost train will be back in full force just like it was last week after Purdue. That’s my prediction anyway.

Just like the keep Frost crowd is back in full force since we are "so close" in year 4 and only lost to OSU by 9. Lol Right?

Well currently we have 3 wins 1 loss and 6 moral victories. Playing Wisconsin within single digits will be another moral victory and warrant an extension for frost.

That group has been around for weeks. They are just in desperation mode right now. That is why they are so loud the last few days.

If nothing comes out, and the Iowa game comes to conclusion, it will be a new coach next year, IMO.

Doesn’t matter the coach you are always going to have those that don’t ever want a change. It is what it is.

We lose by less than 8 points to Wisconsin and we beat Iowa by 2 points and all hell breaks loose & Husker Nation is divided amongst itself.

Not unlikely based on what’s happened this season. Though I have to say Wisconsin will probably be the most physical team we play this year.

as well it should be.

i can handle some close losses to top 5 teams, but its the blowouts against Wisconsin and Iowa, two teams that have no business taking us to the woodshed, that made Pelini and Riley so easy to fire.

Wisconsin is severely limited on offense. Don't turn the ball over and Nebraska has a good chance to pull off the upset.

Wisconsin will be playing for the B1G West title and will have an extra kick in their step to get to the CCG.*

*CCG = Conference Championship Game, for any of you that have forgotten what that stands for. 🤣😥

If we lose a close game, I predict there will be a Minnesota fan on here who is disguised as a Husker fan, who starts a few more threads about Scott Frost.

wisconsin blitzes from the start hard and heavy to rattle martinez, the oline slips past them to bear down on the linebackers (rendering them dysfunctional) , as a martinez scrambling (some think of tarkington), with precision hits open receivers after open receiver over the middle (scorching the blitz). this onslaught last till the half....compiling 27 point.

our defense contains their running game 1st but also blitzes hot and heavy but with different results....after hitting their qb from all angles he becomes rattled but still better then then their #2 qb...this rattling leads to many incomplete passes and a few picks thru the course of the game.

our offense at halftime adjusts, martinez is benched (to help his previous injuries) and our #2 qb comes out...and he starts handing off to yant and johnson for big gains..and to move chains...remember their linebackers are in pain....and smothers passing becomes polished by the conclusion of the game

They both should be low scoring games. I'd give us a decent shot if we had the Badgers in Lincoln but I just don't see it happening up there. If our defense has anything left in the tank I think there's a good chance we finally take down Iowa. 4-8 ain't gonna cut it when you have at least an 8-4 roster.

Next 2 games are irrelevant. 2 losses and Frost will still be here next year. Hopefully for the future of Husker football AM moves on and the entire offensive, which is putrid, coaching assistants hit the road,

Hopefully for the future of Nebraska football we fire our last place coach. It is insanity that it isnt a no brainer. Of course it probably is for alberts.

How about all of the close losses to top 75 teams? Has Frost had a win against a top 50 team in his time as HC at DONU?

Here's what's at stake these last two games:
  • Frost finishes his fourth year at 15-29, 16-28 or 17-27.
  • None of them are good enough to retain his job.

Unless we hit some big plays like we did against OSU we will struggle to score in this game. No QB running game to speak of due to AMart injuries means we will not run the ball for many yards. Expect several sacks on passing plays, especially in obvious passing downs, which will be almost every third down. Our offensive tackles will be once again virtually worthless against the pass rush. Our punting and FG kicking will be erratic. Our defense will keep it close but will get worn down. Wisconsin will end up winning comfortably. It will be a rough day in Madison and a long trip home.

Unless Martinez breaks a long run, I think our net total rushing yards could be a negative number.
