Some of those are going to be wrong.

He at least was smart to have Matt Campbell listed for Nebraska. I bet that is the person who gets hired.

Luke Fickell sounded like he wants a shot at coaching a Blue Blood program on the Dan Patrick show today. Could Nebraska get him if he doesn't get the USC job?

All of them make alot of sense to me, except Cristobal going to Miami. That would be an amazing get for them.

Also, not sure how I would feel about BOB. I would support it, but probably not my first choice.

If you like runs up the center's ***, then you will love Bill O'Brien.

I'd rather have another year of Scott than get stuck with Bill again.

IMO for what he has predicted...

PSU with Franklin - i agree. Most likely the person hired for that job.

LSU with Tucker - i doubt that happens. I can see MSU putting up a big contract to keep him.

TCU with Dykes - yeah, taht is obvious.

Texas Tech with Joey....doubt that happens.

Washington State with Kalen - yes, if Nebraska doesn't hire him, I can see him getting the WSU job. They would be smart to do it.

Miami with Mario - I see no reason for Mario to make that move. He can compete for a conference title every year at Oregon. More support money around the program. Miami is a tough job for various reasons.

I don't see O'Brien even having interest. I see him wanting an NFL job - OC or head coach. I highly doubt he is coaching in college next season.

If Nebraska landed campbell or Fickell you have to be excited about the future. Those are names that recruits will know and will want to play for. You should see an immediate upswing in recruiting and also transfer portal interest from players at other schools.

The good with BOB...he will bring in a bonkers good staff, period.

I also think he would kill recruiting in a great way because NFL guys look at it differently, there is no "awww shucks, would you maybe want to come to Lincoln" type attitude. I feel like the treat it like a business with a plan to get kids to the pros. I feel like they present their pitch very differently. Not better, just different.

Dude LOVED the QB sneak and when he was at PSU (and clearly did not give a ****) it was so fun to watch him go for it on 4th down, like, all the time.

He was so conservative with the Texans. It was always 1st down run (90% of the time up the center's ***) and as bad of clock management as you'll see in the NFL. Until Deshaun got there, it was a trainwreck offensively. He basically was the polar opposite of his tendencies at PSU.

I never watch the Texans but he was wild at PSU.

He treated Hackenberg like a video game.

Are you a Texans fan? If so, could you tell be more about BOB as the coach there. On paper, it looked like he was successful there, but it seems like the fanbase hated him.

O'Brien has a relationship with Trev and is at the top of the list if we were to make a change. He is interested and talks to Trev on a regular basis.

O'Brien set the Texans back 5 years and D. Watson set them back another 2 lol. I don't see him coming here. I do see Fickell or Campbell as a fit, Fickell is finding out how hard it is to make the CFP if you're not in a Power 5 conference

Honest question, how did he set the Texans back? He seemed to have done a good job on the field (at least from a W and L standpoint). Was it the boneheaded trades?

I was a Texans fan until they traded away DeAndre Hopkins for pennies on the dollar, a year after giving away Clowney for similar compensation. After they gave away Hopkins, I bailed after being a fan since the beginning. When they fired Bill, I was going to give them a second chance but then they pivoted to become a religious organization instead of a football team.

Bill is horrible at clock management. I can't emphasize that enough, horrible. His offenses without a competent QB, were terrible. His receivers (aside from Hopkins because he's so great) rarely got any separation. Will Fuller was an exception at times simply because he's one of the fastest players in the NFL so "go deep" would get him open a couple times a game just off that.

His system seemed to be needlessly complicated. He was stubborn to a fault in regards to his system. He was also stubborn about who his QB was (pre-Watson). Brian Hoyer had FIVE turnovers in the playoffs and didn't get pulled. Meanwhile his backup at the time, Brandon Weeden, had just come off two straight wins. While no one would ever proclaim Weeden good, or even average, he was better at taking care of the ball than Hoyer was and with that defense, that was really all they needed. Instead, 5 turnovers later, the Texans were bounced from the playoffs with Weeden not getting a snap. It was infuriating.

When Watson first got put in, Bill switched his system to suit what Watson was good at and the Texans put up 30+ points the first 5 games Watson started. Watson tore his ACL, Bill went back to the rigid system and the Texans were never truly explosive like that again the rest of his tenure. Sure, they'd have games, here or there were they put up points but those first 5 games that Watson started were like a video game, big plays left and right. Watson would also create, single-handedly, some spectacular plays that were out of system.

Bill seems like a good dude but the way he runs his team is like New England style, no fun, all business. The biggest thing offensively is just you never saw him scheme guys open, everything, even with Watson and Hopkins, was difficult. He loved drafting tight ends but never using them. You will never hear anything tangible about injuries. The press conferences will never reveal anything insightful (you can skip them, nothing important will be said). Maybe he's changed after this year with Saban (seems like most coaches do). I just don't want Nebraska to be his next job.

I find it odd and encouraging that Fickell and Campbell aren't mentioned in any other gig but Nebraska? Although I could see Fickell going to MSU if Tuck leaves for LSU.

I'd prefer Fickell out of that threesome.

I agree he's not a good fit at all and will jump at the chance to get back to the NFL in some capacity.

Hence why I'd rather have another year of Frost vs multiple years of O'Brien.

No thanks, I’d rather have Simple Jack over Frost at this point. Frost is not interested in doing his job.

I thought O’Brien did a pretty solid job at PSU when their program was on fire.

BOB has been a head coach for eight full seasons and the beginning of a ninth. He had one losing season (his fourth of sixth in Houston), but followed that up with his third and fourth division titles. He was dismissed last year when the Texans started 0-4.

He was 5-3 in one-score games at PSU. He was 28-26 in one-score games as the head coach of the Texans.

Is he better'n what we got? Oh, yeah.

I would be thrilled with O’Brien. The dude can coach. But landing Fickell or Aranda would be better. Campbell? I don’t know why but he just doesn’t excite my football meter. But I would take him over Frost.

wonder if a quality QB coach could get Martinez better for a year, while we groom a replacement

but then again, I dont think Martinez would come back without Frost here.

The thing I like about OBrien is that he is so damn connected to recruiting hotbeds and he has NFL experience he can sell to recruits. And he proved he can be a college head coach at PSU. You think Frost inherited a dumpster fire? O’Brien walked into a nightmare at penn state

Yes!

Also, Bill seems like the guy that doesn't care about feelings or anything like that. The best guys play, period.

He made that clear at Penn State. The dude does not play favorites. He is a very business-like and serious coach. He projects authority. And yet his players at PSU loved him.

Why are some people in this thread so concerned with his time in the NFL? I would say it’s like comparing apples to oranges. I would look more at his time at PSU to determine if he’s a good hire or not. If we do hire him I say he’s here 3 years max, either because he’s not working out or because the NFL comes calling again.

The trades, he didn't get a #1 pick for D. Hop. His play calling, his QB decisions.

The thing with Fickell is that he's from Columbus and went to Columbus DeSales HS and you can bet that when / if Day ever leaves, Fickell will be at the very top of OSU's list and make no mistake --- no matter where he coaches next ---- he will crawl back to Columbus to be the HC of OSU. Him, his family and friends bleed Scarlet & Gray. Of course, Day leaving anytime in the very near future is remote but there is a chance the NFL comes calling Day again.
