Is it weird that I feel like this is a coach that trev would go after and I think it would be a lame hire.

Got to be the first coach ever to have his own statue at the stadium and get fired.

Doesn't fit the bill. Deciding criteria:
1) Former coach or player.
2) Understands we need 140 walk-ons minimum.
3) Knows special culture that only exists at Nebraska, like Sirius tunnel walk stolen from 1991 Chicago Bulls.
4) Has blessing of Tom Osborne, who nearly left after 1976 season because fans were mean.
5) Willing to run the option at least a few times a game, so announcers can mention 1995 team.

He took over a program that was a laughingstock, and won 70% of his games over 20 years. He competed pretty well with Texas and Oklahoma while having less talent than them.
He will be a head coach somewhere next year, if he wants to be. It may not be at Nebraska, but somebody is going to hire him.

He was told he was out at the end of the year. Decided to be a big baby and ended it immediately.

I don’t remember TCU ever really having tremendous success recruiting. Here he could potentially get top 20 classes. Maybe kids that actually develop and pan out.

He’s not my first choice, maybe not even top 10. But I think we would like him and I think he’s better than a lot of the coaches in this conference.

If my boss told me I was done, but wanted me to stay until the end of the year. I would have said FU also.
Yeah? Do you have a couple hundred people under you that you've formed relationships with, coached, recruited, invested your life into? Not to mention hundreds and hundred of players over the past 20 years. Coulda went out classy, but chose otherwise.

No. You don't owe your employer anything. You're fired, but please stay on until we find your replacement. That's a big FU. I mean, you can stay on if you want.

There’s a lot to like about coaching Nebraska if you’re successful. Not sure refreshing would ever be one of those things.
Well, I'm a glass half full guy

I actually think he could find success here if Trev opened the wallet to get him the support he needed. I really don't know TCU that well but I'd have to imagine Neb has much better facilities and focus.

I guess "refreshing" was just me thinking of Gary finding a fresh start. And I don't think he'd be on most people's top 10 wish list - we'd all get behind him and support him.

Yeah I can see both sides to it.
I think I would stay and finish the year out as well. But I could totally imagine also just wanting to get out.
