Assuming Trev pulls the trigger today….

He shouldn't pull the trigger. We have to protect the program. We have a horrible history of mishandling coaching changes. We finally can say we gave a coach a long chance and didn't knee jerk it.

If Scott resigns. Ok.

-does he let Scott finish the season?
- does he name an interim?
- another option?
OK I'll bite. Disclaimer Scott won't be fired until after regular season IF he is at all.

But I'll go with the what if. IF you fire a coach it should be like any other job firing or 2 week notice. Let's go to your office and I'll watch you clean out your desk and escort you to the door.

Held or chinander as interim

I doubt they get rid of Scott before the season unless it's a resignation. Only way I could see them actually getting rid of him before the season ends is if the NCAA investigation actually turned up something fireable with cause.

These are fair questions and the concern are these things...

1. No announcement at all probably means lame attendance for the last two games
2. Canning him now probably means two packed houses?

If you plan on canning him and he pulls off a great game vs OSU and say beats Iowa to end the season, there might be pressure to keep him.

If you are getting rid of him and you know it, I think you make the announcement now, so you avoid that situation above.

I really don't feel like there is a worry about not getting your top guy if you don't can him now. I don't think that LSU or USC are looking at the same guys that NU would be looking at.

I will just guess there is one step before firing Frost (or at least it will be an option he's given), and that is specific assistants replaced and a come to Jesus meeting on philosophy, identity, etc.

That is IF they consider our competitiveness against a few top ten teams as a redeeming (wait another year) factor.

If you name Chins as interim and he goes 2-1 to finish the season are you going to hire him long term? If the answer is no then let Frost finish. Don’t put yourself in a position where you have some in the fan base and the players lobbying for a guy you have no intention of hiring.

I predict Texas will be in the hunt soon also.

When is Texass not in the hunt for a new coach?

Texas is proof positive that NO new coaching hires are "sure things". It is always a gamble. Always.

The odds that the next hire will be someone good enough (defined as wins above .700%) to stay until he retires?

Probably around 15%.

Some rumors going around that up to 10 younger guys are hitting the portal.

Also, rumor that TO is working hard behind the scenes to make sure Frost gets more time. Uggggg

If true about TO then we have a lot bigger problems than just SF. I love the man and appreciate what he did but he needs to remove himself from the situation completely.

I have no idea if it is true or not and more than likely it might be more of Trev just chatting with TO as opposed to TO calling Trev to offer up his thoughts but who knows.

4 years and 4 losing seasons. I don't see much improvement unless you consider "being competitive" improvement. Which I believe is negated by losing to bad teams and having the same problems as year 1

The thing about bad investments is knowing when to stop investing

Losing when you are favored is not a good way to keep your job.

Much rather have Chinander as interim. Held cant manage a power 5 running back room.
I get that. I’d leave DC right where he his considering it’s the only unit performing on this team. Give Held or someone else with leadership experience the chance to look over the team.

it's entirely possible that Trev screws this up from our perspective as well.. he's going to do what the BOR and President want him to do.. that is what happened at UNO, so it would be no different here.

maybe they want to really put a stake in the football program long term.. academia and sports usually don't mix, so I could see an angle like that.. revenge of the nerds type thing Laughing

I really think that is what is going to happen. He HAS to get rid of the Mario and probably Austin. Has to IF he's retained. HEAVY sigh. What a freaking mess.
