While I have no link or any kind of actual first-hand information about it, that was certainly the gist from the press conference to me.

October 18th 2007 Tom Osborne as new AD: "I’m very supportive of Coach Callahan and his staff. We are trying to help our players and rally our fans. Right now, that’s our entire focus.” This was when NU was 4-3 with a loss to Oklahoma State 14-45 on October 13th.
Callahan commented on October 18th 2007: “We are building a strong relationship with Coach Osborne. “He knows this program inside and out, and that makes him a valuable resource for me, my staff and our players.”
BUT...behind the scenes, following the OSU loss Osborne told Callahan privately he would lose his job at the end of the season if he didn't have a winning record.
The next week on October 20th NU lost at home to Texas A&M 14-36 to go 4-4. Osborne had another meeting with Callahan where he told him if the team finished 8-4, there would be no coaching change and that if he won three of the last four games "we can maybe make it work." It appears Osborne upped the pressure due to the 22-point home loss including 3 lost fumbles and giving up 359 yards rushing, which resulted in 3 TD drives in the second half and used most of the 2nd half clock. The last four games were Texas (25-28 loss), Kansas (39-76 loss), KSU (73-31 win), and Colorado (51-65 loss on November 23rd).
Callahan ended up 5-7 and was fired November 24th.
So granted, Osborne didn't gush mid-season about Callahan the way Alberts just did about Frost, but nobody knows the kinds of conversations Alberts is having with Frost behind closed doors. Therefore, to draw the conclusion Frost will be back by what Trev said during the interview might be premature.

What coach would come here if they see they might get fired before the end of the season or the AD answers questions with: " Yea screw that guy, he is on his own. I am embarrassed of him."
If Frost was getting blown out like that we would fully expect him to get fired and I don’t think anybody would disagree
These comments are pretty concerning and not ones you think he'd be making if he was considering making a coaching change at the end of the season. Either that or he's really damn good at hiding his true thoughts. Either way, these comments seem kind of over the top and unnecessary.
What strikes me about his comments isn’t what he says, but what he doesn’t say. He was handed a perfect opportunity to just come out and say “Scott Frost is our coach and he is going to remain our coach.” He says all the right things you would expect an AD to say, without committing himself to keeping Frost. What did we expect him to say with our season still open to a bowl game? “Coach Frost had better win 3 of the last 4 or he is gone.”? No way. Furthermore, even though the final decision belongs to Trev, a successful football program is bigger than the AD. Boosters with deep pockets have a huge influence on these decisions. If Frost misses a bowl game again Trev could get an earful from boosters who might say to him, “Not going to give another dime for this **** show.” Frost could put all of this to bed by finishing strong. It begins with Purdue. I want Frost to succeed. I wanted him fired after the Illinois game but that was stupid emotion talking. Nebraska will be better off with a 6-6 ending and Frost coming back, than a firing, a hiring, and yet another reset. Beat Purdue! GBR
Agree with others that noted Trev gave an answer that didn't really answer the question. He did say one thing, that making declarative statements during the season can be counter productive. And then he proceeded to not really say anything.
You can't gain any insight into what is going on behind the scenes with this information, and is why Trev is making a good AD already.
He's been holding Scott accountable, and we have seen improvement, or at least them trying and running the engine at 100%.
It remains to be seen what the administration will decide at the end of the season.
They have multiple options that they could take, and we don't have a clue yet, on how things are leaning.
I will say there has been one major positive that the administration will consider, and that is Scott has kept his mouth shut regarding the B1G conference and all the prior insubordination that happened last year. To them, that was way more important to get that silenced before risking being kicked out of the league and losing all that grant money.
That's really the only positive that Scott has going for him right now in my opinion.

1. Nebraska doesn’t fire coaches mid-season
2. It serves no purpose for Trev to say publicly that Scott is a Dead Man Walking. If he shows support, it’s better for the team and Scott can’t come back and blame what happens the rest of the season on Trev
3. It all comes down to the boosters. Even if Trev really does like Frost, if enough boosters tell Trev there will be no more checks written til Frost is gone, then Trev has no choice at that point.
6-6 would mean the current staff has failed to achieve a winning conference record (playing in the big ten west) for the 4th consecutive year.
I am not sure there is precedent in a program that is truly serious about being more than a 7-9 win team bringing back a coach with this record heading into year five.
would love to see some examples of schools who brought back a coach without a winning record in his first four years over the last 10-15 years to see which fraternity Nebraska is pledging

Then, however, I'm pulling all of the "important" boosters into an auditorium where I'm addressing the issues at hand and giving them a strong look at where we're heading... This would allow me to Hit these objectives up front and personal while securing the position so that NU can have a strong 2nd half and an even stronger next year without looking over ones shoulder... and if this doesn't work then we work on an exit plan... personal accountability starts at the top

What is AD Alberts supposed to say? Did you really expect him to say Coach Frost will not be fired or he will be fired at the end of the year?
AD Alberts gave the only response that he could. He's said all along that he evaluates through the season. We've got 1/3 of the schedule remaining to be played!! Yes it's probably the hardest part but unfortunately this isn't like a bad movie that he can just turn off or walk out of. It might turn out to be a heck of a cliffhanger with a surprise ending.... hopefully.

why would anyone (AD, booster or fan) be foolish enough to lend any credibility to plans Scott Frost may have for year 5 and beyond based on how his plan for years 1-4 went?
it would be like sitting down with your financial advisor after they lost all your money to see what they have planned for future investments

Trev said a lot about what he didn't say, not what was said. One has to have the ability to read between the lines and not all people have that skill.
If he finishes 3-1 he stays as that means Iowa or Ohio St is beaten.

Idk, I guess I don't understand why you'd make comments like that if the intention was to get rid of Frost at the end of the year. And the evaluating at the end of the year thing is just a cop out answer to get the media off his back. The internal mechanisms need to be in place for a coaching replacement well before it actually happens, or at least it should be. If those internal mechanisms were in place, I just don't see these type of comments being made.
All he has to do is say "Frost will be here next year." Didn't happen.

Callahan was a dead man walking regardless of what has been publicly stated. Tom was brought back to "restore the order" and Callahan was not going to be part of that order unless he won out.
Clearly Trev said "now is not the time or place for that discussion". Frost will be evaluated at the end of the year and a decision will be made. IMO, it appears likely that if he gets to 5 wins, he'll be retained. Don't ask me if that's the right decision or not. Glad I'm not having to make it.
It won't be an easy decision and there is a lot riding on it. Frost could bail him out and rattle off 3 wins and have his first non-losing season.
It's just year 4. And if NU and Frost part ways, I could see Trev saying the same things he did when answering that caller's question. That he enjoyed working with Scott and that he was proud of him.
The sad truth is that IF we fire Frost, the next guy probably won't come with near the resume that Frost had. I am almost certain of that. KU hired the best coach out of the MAC in Leipold. The Coastal Carolina guy from what I've seen isn't a good game day coach. Sigh. I think if we can salvage 5 the best course might be to try to ride Frost unless Trev has a guy he really likes in the wings. Hell the best option could be a guy who has never been a head coach. It would be a roll of the dice.
I wouldn't say the evaluation is going to happen at the end of the season. The evaluation process is daily and ongoing. The decisions will be the result of evaluation of progress and results.
As the boss, you have to publicly support your programs and personnel. Should he have said, " well you know Scott has dug a huge hole by losing close games that he shouldn't have. He's got some personnel that aren't getting the job done and if we don't get to a bowl game they're all going to be fired no matter how we play"?
Right now this coaching staff imo is fragile and probably second guessing things and themselves. They need to be focusing on coaching and winning games rather than job openings and housing markets in other cities. They probably feel the heat without the boss piling on right now
Are you comparing what Harbaugh accomplished to this **** that has been going on here the last 4 years??! What was Frosts 1st year record compared to Harbaugh??! How his first 38 games??
Michigan has WAY HIGHER expectations than Nebraska and it's not even CLOSE!
Harbaugh took over a talent laden roster. For whatever reasons Michigan is an easier place to recruit to. Then you add in that Michigan has been in the top 10 of recruiting rankings almost every year Harbaugh has been there. All he has needed was a QB and he finally has one. It's just indicative of how important ONE GUY is to your team and how hard it is to identify the high school QB who can be THAT guy.
