I agree completely. IF Adrian wasn't healthy, Smothers should have played. Why else do we carry back up QBs on the roster? Another dumb coaching decision.

Im pretty sure we carry back up quarterbacks only in case Adrian dies or loses an arm or a leg

If our backup is that bad, that's on the coaching staff. Whether failing to recruit or develop.

We can't expect an elite QB to ride the pine when they could go somewhere else, but there is no reason to not have a competent QB or have a project QB that's been coached up that they can run the majority of the offense.

It's year 4 and I think those vocal for keeping Frost are going to be surprised how many have had enough after 4 years. Those that want Frost gone are not going to be silent and hope something happens that has never happened at a Blue Blood program. A coach having 3 losing seasons, let alone 4 and then suddenly turning it around.

I want him to be the new commentator for our games. That was epic.
Better than listening to Sharpe and kooty make excuses like they were the other night. Getting tired of that shtick. I realize they are publicity arm of university but they pretend to have critical objective views on all things sports.......except husker fb

Tell me about it. If our backups are that bad what are we going to do when Martinez leaves. Start another freshman and ride him for 4 years?? Probably guarantee all qbs will enter portal immediately and have to result to wildcat because we won't have any qbs left

Ridiculous is an understatement. You mean to tell me you're using the "AM was hurt" card as to why your offense sucked against Minnesota or maybe even why you lost the game? Are you for real right now? Maybe if you had a QB at 100% in there, we score on both drives inside the 5. Last I checked, AM is hardly the whole team.

If you're gonna lose anyways, put in the back up and let him get some reps. At the very least you have a real excuse as to why you lost. Center the whole offense around 1 guy. How demoralizing is that for the other players and even more so for the backup QBs.

Just when you think they couldn't be more incompetent, they rewrite the definition of incompetent. SMH.

Don’t get me wrong. I want Frost to succeed. But there are just so many things right? 4 years..... 4.. and this is where we are at. We started Belt last week.. love the kid.. but really? So Belt gets a start and yet we can’t find a way to get Smothers on the field for a broken AM?? Have we ever had any combination of Betts, Martin, manning, Brown, Toure, Nixon??? Ever?? Plus not to mention our 2 NFL Te’s?? Or how about on 3 and 4th down giving the ball to the big USC transfer that has played in big games? I just look at all this talent and shake my head...not to mention our 6’4 6’3 freshman Wrs..It’s all talent being wasted. Frost has the talent...it’s completely on the staff.

Imagine if Frost comes back next year and Adrian doesn’t. We will be constantly hearing “well we are young and inexperienced at the qb position, so…”

Sometimes Frost’s press conferences drive me crazy. If AM is injured, and Smothers isn’t ready…then what the heck is the point of having a QB “coach”. Frost said some of the option stuff wasn’t going to be available? What the heck is that? Those option plays/designed QB runs are the best thing to happen to this offense. Get someone in that can run the playbook and let AM heal.

Adversity has kicked the **** out of Frost. He just looks defeated.

He could be a Rolex Wearing, Diamond ring wearing, kiss stealing, wheeling and dealing limousine riding, jet flying son of a gun...whoooooo!

But in the end, to be the man you have to beat the man...and he hasn't done that and I don't see him ever doing that.

Well played sir. Wooooooo! But in all seriousness, I think I have to quit watching his pressers. Because by the end of every single one of them, I’m doubting if he’s the guy. He would let an injured quarterback sit in the pocket… Keying on one receiver, Try to win the game? Rather than have a back up come in and run all the packages that have been putting points up? Freaking crazy to me

Did he really use it as an excuse? I think he stated Martinez was banged up and it limited some of the game plan. then followed up and said they need to block better and do other things better.

Our fan base is kind of goofy.

Frost doesn't talk about injuries and people lose their mind. "Why is he so secretive?"

Frost mentions injuries and "No more excuses!"

Just waiting for "You shut your mouth when your talking to me!"

We suck. Frost sucks. This season sucks. But sweet fancy Moses, quick hanging on everything he says and losing your ****. Plenty of things to really complain about.

The one thing I continue to think is that IF our QB recruiting (or coaching) has been so bad that we can't bring in the back up for a game, then our QB coach needs to be held accountable. He's like the invisible man. Yes Frost is the final say in who we recruit but if we can't play a kid who has been in the system for several years and who was your number one choice of all the QBs in the nation that recruiting class, then you need to rethink who is coaching your QBs. We can ***** and moan all we want about Martinez missing open receivers and fumbling the ball but if you don't have another viable option ready to come in the game when Adrian is injured, you need a different QB coach. For God's sake if you want to go to the passing game play Masker.

I thought it would have been beneficial for the team if SF had brought Smothers in for at least a series or two in the first half of last Saturday's game. It was obvious that Adrian was not "On". I think it would have accomplished two things. One, see if Smothers could get the offense moving and secondly given Adrian time to take a breath and reset himself.

Was Smothers ready? Did we not all see the kid come in the 2nd series vs Michigan State. Again, 2nd series….. and he looked pretty dang good and was definitely not intimidated. Only a drive but anyone knows ball could see he has ton of potential & definitely saw enough to know he should’ve played vs Minnesota if Adrian wasn’t healthy.

Agree. Not being ready is an assumption on my part b/c it’s maddening to me that you play a QB that’s not capable of running the most effective packages of our offense due to injury. I’m all for Smothers getting in.

Exactly. I watched it and he wasn’t making excuses or blaming anything. He was just answering questions. He still decided to play AM and we still lost, there are no excuses. I just hate how some in our fan base love to ***** about and make huge issues out of these press conferences. There are plenty of real issues to focus on.

Pardon me if I dont give much credit to what Frost says. Someone posted "the opposite" from Seinfeld the other day, and it was spot on.

Nope. When AM leaves, HCSF is shutting down the program because no one else can do what he does, or does not do, as the case may be. Ride the horse until it's dead, like this program.

We have beat one team with a pulse during SF's time here. That was with our backup last season.

I mean I would have loved to see Smothers play, especially with AM hurt. BUT. So much wrong with this post:

First Luke sucked, like really, really sucked. 6 INT to 1 TD (on a forward handoff). and can’t get on the field at Rice bad. The PSU game was won despite him and his epic bed shitting against Illinois the following week proved as much.

Second. PSU was winless when we beat them last year and finished with a losing record. At least MSU and Minnesota in 18 had winning records and went to Bowl Games.

Anyway, carry on.

HCSF is directly responsible for all of this; can't blame it on Super Mario. Our QB room is a total disaster, at least under the current staff.

Ultimately it lies at Frost's feet. That is true and that is why I say get rid of Verdusco. Frost has coached QBs before. For heaven's sake he coached QBs for 3 years at Oregon. Do we need Mario sitting in film sessions? He's a guy we don't need and a guy whose charges have underperformed. Time to cut bait with the guy if we keep Frost.

Question is that no one is asking- is it more important for the coaches to lose as long as AM plays & seeming to appear afraid to let another one have a chance so he doesn’t make Adrian lose? Terrible thing to say I know but we have watched it over and over again hitching the wagon and not getting off. Only reason Luke got the chance was because Adrian had played really bad for couple of games in a row. He hasn’t done that this season. He has definitely played bad first half’s but came out 2nd half and played really well.
