I was looking at next year’s schedule and noticed we play Wisconsin in Madison. Why do we have to play them two years in a row at Madison??

I think we had wisconsin at home in 2019 and then again in 2020 after the schedule shakeup…

Maybe? Not sure without looking, but that sounds right to me…

We never played them last year even though it was supposed to be in Lincoln. They owe us a home game in my eyes

Big 10 and Warren made the schedule change for the Covid season.. Originally Nebraska was suppose to play in Madison for the 2020 season.

AND it never happened. Maybe we need to pay Wisconsin like a non conference opponent if they're hard up for $$

Wisky didn’t play a lot of teams because of Covid..

Bottom line now is Nebraska no longer has to play both Ioway and Wisconsin away or at home in the same year..

And we now play Purdon’t 2 years in a row at home.
Those may get switched next year as they were this year. Purdue is scheduled to host Wisconsin this year and in 2022. A triple switch of PU-NU, UW-PU and UW-NU will take care of that, which is what happened this year to bring Purdue to Lincoln for the first time since 2018.

Sounds reasonable. Thanks

Well, I don't think it's reasonable. They screwed up the scheduling in 2020 and I have no idea why other than someone wanted something and they got it. The change led to Nebraska hosting Wisconsin and traveling to Purdue two years in a row. There were a couple other anomalies they forced, but it was all a choice and not happenstance.

I did an exercise like 8 months ago where I looked at the original and final schedules across the conference. Unfortunately, I didn't save it nor do I have time to do it again. Nonetheless, the conclusion was the conference changed just 4 or so division matchups to be repeated sites in 2019 and 2020 unnecessarily. The way the Big Ten schedules are/were structured is 4 home and 5 away for one division, 5 home and 4 away for the other, alternating each year. When they went to an 8-game schedule, all they had to do was drop the 5th home/away (interdivision) game and they would be set at 4 home and 4 away for for each team (3 each division games, 1 each crossover).

It was stupid and makes my blood boil. No one ever explained why the change occurred, only reactionary when they put out the new schedules that "oh, when we changed the schedules for the pandemic, it screwed up the home/away rotations." People just took it and moved on, and hardly anyone questioned to reasoning for the root change.

This isn't to ***** about the cross-division draw NU got in 2020 since technically those opponents were on Nebraska's schedule originally (the conference just dropped the Rutgers game to get to 8). Rather to point out how logically stupid the Big Ten scheduling office was on something as fundamental as selecting home and away designations.

Sorry, seeing your posts got me really fired up.

That being said, I liked the idea of not traveling to both Wisconsin and Iowa in the same season and having one of those as a home game each year. I see that is now short-lived and our conference home games in 2022 will be Indiana, Minnesota, Purdue, and Illinois. Thank goodness for a non-conference home game against Oklahoma (others are North Dakota and Georgia Southern), because that is a hard season ticket package to sell. Oof. Meanwhile, conference road games against Rutgers, MICHIGAN, WISCONSIN, and IOWA (neutral site against Northwestern in Dublin).

That's temporary, and this thread made me look into it. I was happy about that, too, until I looked at future schedules. That ends after just a season (or two if you want to count when we didn't play Wisconsin last year). 2022 we go back to playing both Wisconsin and Iowa either at home or on the road.

he was when the scheduling happened.
He changed the schedule last year during the Covid year and so the adjustment going back next year from what I can see is with Purdue.. Other wise this would have been the 3rd year in a row we would play in West Lafayette.

I expect the Big Ten to switch NU-PU, UW-PU and NU-UW next year,.

In the long run, I think the conference will revamp the conference slate by going to an eight-game schedule to allow for more Alliance games with the ACC and Pac-12. They may even eliminate divisions to allow every team to play three permanent opponents, and then five of the other 10 for two years, switching out for the other five opponents the next two years. Scott Dochterman, an acquaintance and the Iowa beat reporter for the Athletic, has deep ties to the Big Ten and the UI athletic department, and he's outlined this very real possibility for permanent opponents:

SCHOOLOPPONENT 1OPPONENT 2OPPONENT 3

So the Huskers would play Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota every year, with a potential rotation of other teams like this:
Years 1 and 2: Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Rutgers, Michigan State
Years 3 and 4: Northwestern, Purdue, Michigan, Maryland, Penn State

We played Perdue away in 2019 and 2020. The non-division slate seems slanted against NU on most years.

When are we going back to a 8 game conference schedule with adding the pac 10 and acc games into our schedule?

Plain and simply put. The **** 10 conference has the organizational skills of a 2nd grader. They have never been able to make a schedule that makes sense.
