1. he will have 4 years experience under his belt
2. realistically we have 3 or 4 wins left this year, that puts us in a bowl. maybe ranked?
so I'm not sure he will be NFL priority #1,
where if he comes back next year he might have alot better record.
2022 looks like a gravy run compared to this year's schedule.
(unless the big adds 2 teams (houston/tv/recruiting & smu/dallas tv/recruiting) and screws us on it)
3. he should be comfortable as heck with decent receivers, backs, oline.
4. a national commercial with adrian walking out to the red N on NU's field with a coke
opening a ice cold coke, saying "have a coke", then taking a drink, then saying "and a smile"
then running away from a pack of blackshirts.
red and white everywhere......thats NIL gold. (probably the biggest no brainer this decade, outside of btc)
5. I'm not sure smothers is ready next year, and I'm not sure what the transfer portal could bring.
6. he could take more college courses in his spare time.
If he continues to perform at the level he has thus far, he'll be drafted maybe in the 4th or 5th round. There is no reason he can't be as good a QB as Mac Jones. His arm strength is as good and he is a much better runner.
His skill set is similar to Russell Wilson. and he's 3 inches taller.
With the right coach and scheme he could be a successful NFL QB.
If drafted go, and avoid injury.

I put the odds of him returning at 99.9%

He will want to finish his masters degree, before he tries to go to the NFL.

I don't think the NFL is the deciding factor here at all, rather him wanting to get that graduate degree (paid for) is, and get to be the man on campus for one more year.

I am positive that this is how he looks at the situation (academics first), and the decision has already been made.

The good news for us, is lately he has been outperforming, and maybe that continues into next year.

Yeah, at this point he isn't an NFL draft pick. Maybe with another year of college under his belt. His athleticism is great and all but he just isn't accurate enough for the NFL. I agree that he will most likely return for another year with the Huskers.

I want to see him behind an elite line to see how good he really is. I wouldnt even cared if he transferred somewhere just to see what it would have been like if we had an elite line.

thats one way to look at it, but another way, is martinez come back wins alot,
with a lot easier schedule.
and gets his name pumped alot more, improves his passing and qb skills.
makes alot more in the nfl...

the injury thing I'm not sure about...sure you risk another year in college,
but if you don't know 100% what your doing in the nfl,
you have 11 assassins who will let you know how your doing real quick.
every week.

NFL? Seriously? Maybe I’m alone here but I don’t see him doing anything on Sundays football related. He’ll come back next year but I’d much rather see him move on.

I agree with the first part, but I'm not real sure if we know that who is behind him is ready for prime time or not. Sometimes you insert a QB and it just clicks and you forget about the old starter. Texas this year is a prime example. Also, when Smothers came in at MSU, he moved the ball pretty well and his drive was just hampered by some bad penalties again. Also, I think they were a little cautious, but I thought Smother's actually looked pretty decent. Would the guy coming in be green, heck yes, but you never know. Smother / Haarburg might actually do well when the lights come on and they are the dude.
I've been anything but an AM booster.

In my opinion, this year, Smothers or Masker would have been able to beat Fordham, Buffalo, and Northwestern. All they have to do is not make many mistakes and the NU D does the rest.

The issue is getting it done when NU plays a really good team, and hopefully AM and the Huskers will find a way to actually beat a good team, starting tomorrow.

We all know that the 3 changes in the OL, and the sudden emergence of Yant have made this a much better offense. But, NU still needs to prove they can take these added components and beat somebody worth a ****.

I hope we do, cause this week is huge, and regardless of what happens tomorrow, the next game is going to be really big because will NU let down and get bit by a team they should beat? There are so many unanswered questions with this team based on the last 3.5 years.

NU has only beaten MSU and Minn that finished with 7-6 winning records. Now we get to see if NU can beat a 5-0 team. Tall order.

yeah I don't like martinez's nfl chances at the end of this season.
my problem with saying he should go is 2 fold
the time we have invested in him, and he has invested, should be paying off more..the trianing wheels are off, the home sickness is done..all them things you have to go thru with a player..

the second thing is I don't feel good at all about our qb depth chart..
I feel good about the rb depth chart, that looks good. we have 4 solid back-ups I would be ok plugging into a game.
but the qb depth chart looks like swiss cheese, like someone hit it with both barrels
it's not a glass half full deal...it's at tip the barrel so we can get more out stage.
(nothing against smoothers or the other guy)

It was arguably against the worst team in the conference. But I'm happy with the team's progression. I'm afraid the old Amart will lose us the game if/when Michigan gets pressure on him. I'm hopeful. But he's got to get to six wins. If not, I wouldn't want him back. Here's hoping he can keep some continuity.

GBR
But we still did for once what we shoulda done to an inferior opponent which was destroy them and they are still a P5 team. How many 1 score games in the past have we had against them again?

Boomer Sooner. Riley turned Hurts & Murray into NFL QBs. Am sure he could do the same with Martinez. This is assuming Rattler goes pro.

We'll miss Martinez when he's gone. Experience does matter and we're not just gonna plug someone in who can equal his. Right now and if he chooses to return he will be the best and most experienced qb on our roster.

Probably the safe bet. This being a recruiting board, people get hung up on the next guy, a clip or two of a nice run here, an impossible throw there, and obviously he has the toolset to replicate that at the college level with some consistency. The vast majority of the time, they aren't quite as good as the guy leaving when they start their career.

And that statement generally holds true for teams that recruit at a high level. Nebraska hasn't recruited at that level in 20 years.

well alot of fans were as delusional as frost thinking martinez would turn into joe montana..
I've said from the get go that martinez is a run/pass qb...like gill.....
so I never blamed martinez. I always thought they were using him wrong.
but I also understand that being the starting qb at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, had certain pressures attached to it..alot more than say, a job of making pizza at the wisner caseys..

now that we are thinking more about spreading the ball around, I think martinez will be under a lot less pressure and perform alot better. so I'm not sure why he would want to bolt now, and not enjoy the fruits of his labor, especially with nil...I don't understand after 4 years of training we say, oh lets just get rid of him then....did we say lets just get rid of rodgers or rozier in their last year? hello????earth to nebraska fan!!!

and even bill left coast walsh knew better to have joe take snaps under center and not have the snapped ball sail over montana's head.

Martinez was 11-17 against Northwestern. He could have had 3 possibly 4 additional completions but his throws were Martinez-esque. Northwestern's D-line was weak but we saw what Martinez could do with some additional time in the pocket. HOWEVER, he still missed some check downs and 2nd reads that would have gone for BIG yards.

Michigan's D-line is a different animal compared to Northwestern. I like what I saw from the Oline against NW but they will have their hands full. I hope Martinez can get similar protection against Michigan but I'm not counting on it. Which is why I don't think (hope I'm wrong) the offense will have similar success on Saturday night.
You’re always going to focus on the bad throws. Every QB makes bad throws. But got some reason you’ve convinced yourself that he is a bad QB. His completion % is high but you focus on the incompletions.

There should be an asterisk by all records.

That said for what Frost has invested in him he should repay Frost with an extra year

It would be stupid for him not to unless he decides to quit football for some reason or Frost is fired. 1) He isn't likely to be drafted right now so he has a chance to at least crack the lower rounds with a solid 2022. 2) There doesn't appear to be anyone pushing to take his job right now 3) With NIL he stands to make a lot of money by just playing another season 4) The schedule is much easier next season and the supporting cast looks pretty good right now on offense for next season 5) Transferring would mean starting over and potentially losing the starting job. He can feel confident staying the NU starting QB.

Martinez has zero chance of being drafted into the NFL as a quarterback. The NFL wants guys who can read defenses, audible, check off multiple receivers, and throw a frozen rope in three seconds or less. None of that describes Martinez in the least. He's an average college QB and a far below-average NFL quarterback. He'd be smart to grab whatever endorsements he can in Lincoln, get another year of free tuition for his master's degree, and save what he can for the future.

I keep being told he's the best player we have...so I guess nobody on the team will be nfl bound, so we can stop saying we have to pass to get nfl minded recruits. even though DR.Tom put more recruits in the nfl running the ball then anyone.

what scares me is folks think minn and purdue are W's...
support frost, support martinez, support mr. scott using dilithium crystals for warp speed in the transportal for qb's, olinemen, and special teams. mr. scott we need more power!
this is highly logical

Tommie Frazier was our best player back in the day. Back when we put like 8 to 12 dudes into the NFL every year.

How many snaps did he take in the NFL?
