1. he will have 4 years experience under his belt
2. realistically we have 3 or 4 wins left this year, that puts us in a bowl. maybe ranked?
so I'm not sure he will be NFL priority #1,
where if he comes back next year he might have alot better record.
2022 looks like a gravy run compared to this year's schedule.
(unless the big adds 2 teams (houston/tv/recruiting & smu/dallas tv/recruiting) and screws us on it)
3. he should be comfortable as heck with decent receivers, backs, oline.
4. a national commercial with adrian walking out to the red N on NU's field with a coke
opening a ice cold coke, saying "have a coke", then taking a drink, then saying "and a smile"
then running away from a pack of blackshirts.
red and white everywhere......thats NIL gold. (probably the biggest no brainer this decade, outside of btc)
5. I'm not sure smothers is ready next year, and I'm not sure what the transfer portal could bring.
6. he could take more college courses in his spare time.

I bet he comes back. With a strong end to this season the goal for coming back would be to win the Big Ten West.

I feel he comes back no doubt. Nobmatter how much any of us like him how good we think he is, he is this teams leader.

I've allways said he ran like a deer, and 50% of his passes couldn't hit a broadside of a barn, and 50% looked like the bradshaw to swan slow motion pass. if he can get the latter up to 75% watch out.

another year of experience and a good solid team ranking could mean a lot more nfl $.

another year would be money in the bank for him. he has improved just by the eyeball test and can just get better with protection and improvements from those around him

Even another average year gets him another year removed from being a turnover machine. With the short term memory of NFL GMs and the fact they love the eye test I think he returns. Could be a multi million dollar decision and the biggest of his life.

Honestly, I hope not. I hope we wish him the best of luck and move on from the AM era. I just don't think he is the "fast blinker" or consistent leader that Frost or Verduzco thought he would be. Guy can sure make something out of nothing with his feet though.

Id say there is a 90% chance he comes back. Probably not a NFL QB but what do i know. Another good year and his chances go up imo. Or he comes back, makes some NIL money and gets 1 more year of the game he loves.

It was arguably against the worst team in the conference. But I'm happy with the team's progression. I'm afraid the old Amart will lose us the game if/when Michigan gets pressure on him. I'm hopeful. But he's got to get to six wins. If not, I wouldn't want him back. Here's hoping he can keep some continuity.

I can't ever see AM being an NFL QB. His decision making and ability to throw into a tight window would have to change dramatically in my opinion. I just don't think a 5th year would be the difference. Though, if Frost thinks he is our only chance at winning next year then I could see Frost encouraging him to come back. I hope that's not the case though.

I put the odds of him returning at 99.9%

He will want to finish his masters degree, before he tries to go to the NFL.

I don't think the NFL is the deciding factor here at all, rather him wanting to get that graduate degree (paid for) is, and get to be the man on campus for one more year.

I am positive that this is how he looks at the situation (academics first), and the decision has already been made.

The good news for us, is lately he has been outperforming, and maybe that continues into next year.

Even AM knows he is never going to be an NFL QB, ever. So the question is does he need another year of school to do whatever it is he's going to do next, and I don't have that answer. Then factor in if we have a new coach next year. If we do, I'd imagine that would influence his decision towards the "No".

He will clearly get a shot to make an NFL roster, the hard part of course is making it.

He can also pick and choose his job in the state.

NIL will come into play more and more when it comes to entering the draft for a lot of these kids. My guess is AM stays because his NIL money would be more than his rookie contract ( if he were to even get one)

I don't know, I'm not saying martinez can't be a nfl qb...maybe the folks who say he did'nt have enough time to pass are right...maybe not..as you can see bradshaw in the video had enough time, then got nailed. so I guess it depends on what you mean by enough time...
martinez reminds me of the kc qb sometimes, sometimes being the pivotal word...
maybe with another year getting reps. a bit more stability across the board..
some nil money, he could make a run at the nfl.
if that don't work biden could always pay for his pdh afterwards. and he wouldn't have to work a day in his life.

I was just gonna say that... just a few weeks ago people were all over this kid... quite the difference...
winning has that kinda effect towards the positive where losing has the opposite effect.
this has always been a part of the ncaa gridiron, unspoken understanding.
is that pigskin crossing goal lines, or moving chains? or going incomplete/intercepted?
(vital questions/answers, for those not with the quantitative nor qualitative understanding of providence, which is basically everyone.)

He is still not an NFL QB. He has happy feet, is inaccurate on too many throws, misses too many wide open receivers, and is afraid to throw into coverage.

I think he comes back because Frost and staff will want him to come back, because what is behind him isn't ready for prime time.

I want the Huskers to play well tomorrow and beyond. I personally don't care if he stays or leaves. If AM returns then NU hitting the portal with a quality transfer QB goes down to near zero.

I hope he will play well against Michigan, but I just don't think a QB who has been prone to mistakes for 3.5 years to suddenly become error free.

He’s making more money now than he ever will in the NFL. The only way he leaves is if NFL scouts convince him he will get drafted.

Knock on Wood -

Turnovers are down, Nebraska is on pace to throw 4 picks and have 10 fumbles. That would be an improvement of about 33% from 2018 and 2019.

Martinez has 2 picks, one was a ridiculous catch by the Oklahoma defender and 1 against Michigan St in OT, huge mistake. Fumbles are going to happen when you have your QB run, have mesh handoffs, and option pitches.

Again, knock on wood, but it appears the emphasis on ball security is paying off a bit in 2021. Hopefully it continues.

Personally, I'm ready for the umbilical cord between HCSF and AM be severed. I have said all year that I don't see Frost being fired after this year, no matter what. Next year is decision time. Either he goes, or he gets another extension and we have him for 2 or 3 more years, IMO. I want to see what Frost's offense can do next year without AM before that decision has to be made. I guess I'm thinking big picture and not - Can AM lead us to another maybe .500 season?

Figured he could build a nice resume this season and grad transfer to a contender needing a QB. Nebraska fans appear ready to move on from him and a fresh start might be best for him. Just hope it’s not a B1G team. OU has taken transfers in the past and done well. Would be an interesting twist to face him next year at home.

I agree with the first part, but I'm not real sure if we know that who is behind him is ready for prime time or not. Sometimes you insert a QB and it just clicks and you forget about the old starter. Texas this year is a prime example. Also, when Smothers came in at MSU, he moved the ball pretty well and his drive was just hampered by some bad penalties again. Also, I think they were a little cautious, but I thought Smother's actually looked pretty decent. Would the guy coming in be green, heck yes, but you never know. Smother / Haarburg might actually do well when the lights come on and they are the dude.

Maybe they really are ready for downfield laterals willy-nilly.

We will see. A guy coming in for 1 series when the opponent hasn’t game planned for that QB is what it is. Smothers is quicker than Martinez, that can play with a defense for a few plays. Like you wrote, if Martinez stays healthy we will be starting a green QB.

I’ve posted in the off-season that AM could become one of 3 QBs in modern history to be a 4 year QB starter at a P5 school and not once produce a .500 record in any season. So my first thought is that he has a chance to be in a class by himself forever if he can do it for 5 seasons.

Like others, I am more hopeful now that his team can help him avoid that fate. But those hopes are still fragile and could be easily dashed by an ugly and bad loss on Saturday. I wonder how much of his decision is based upon team success this year. My guess is that more winning than losing for once might be intriguing enough for him to try again.

He is the best we have, by a pretty wide margin. Unless we bring in a JUCO or grad xfer (which we wouldnt do unless Martinez for sure isnt coming back) we dont have anyone capable to doing any better next year.

If I were AM, I'd leave.

He has been disheveled by the fan base the last 3 years, even booed at home while being the best player on our team.

He won't get to the NFL playing in this run heavy offense. He should transfer somewhere that throws the ball to increase his odds of a chance in the NFL while furthering his education.

Heck, Oklahoma should have a spot open. He throws the ball better than anybody gives him credit for on this board. Jalen Hurts was supposedly a dual threat QB at Bama that couldn't throw the ball between the field goal posts. Worked out pretty good for him.

It's would be a waste, if martenez doesn't go to the nfl, not to play next year.
everybody has invested alot into it, and I think there could be a bigger pay off for everyone involved if martinez plays next year. for martinez, the school, fans, etc.

I mean unless someone has urban and joe montana signed sealed and ready to deliver, and I don't know about it.
