I mean, THIS is Nebraska football. This is exactly what we've been missing for so long. It's as if the coaches heard me clamoring for making the motion triple option our base play lol (kidding, but they more or less did kinda shift to that for this game). The production speaks for itself, as does the oline changeup.

St that don't lose you the game. Modern spread triple option offense, nasty o line and big dive back (Yant) and stellar blackshirt defense. Talk about Goosebumps. I really hope we bring it against meat chicken with this exact gameplan. We might just actually pull off the big upset. Not holding my breath, but the possibility is legitimately there! GBR...

Yeah, thought I was sick of watching the tape, but it is on B1G Football in 60 now, so I'm watching it again.

Nebraska vs Northwestern 2021
Year 4 and we've got 1 good game against a crappy Northwestern team that gave up 420 yards to Duke at halftime. Hopefully, this is a start in a new direction.

I think I did notice after watching the recorded game, Frost looked pissed off and looked like he was in survival mode.

Yep. It was a fun game to watch, but we need to keep it all in perspective. We did this to a team that'll be lucky to win another 2 games.

48 hour rule is in place. If you saw last nights coaching show you almost saw Frost smile and he said something similar about perspective. It's on to Mich. I expect us to give a good fight but we only win with turnovers. The crowd must be unruly.

The thing about the option is, when it is well defended, it often results in lost fumbles not just lost yards. And injured QBs. Michigan will be ready for it. We'll need another wrinkle.

A lot of guys have been clamoring for it. I love a run first type of offense. I think they produce better defenses, better lines. A mindset that they are the ones doing the moving out there.

Definite feel good win against a not great NW team. But that is what the better team is supposed to do.

Makes me sick that we lost against a lousy Illinois team and our Special Teams definitely cost us a win against Michigan St. What might have been! Hopefully the team has some stuff figured out for what lies ahead! GBR!!

I don't think anyone on this board is pumping sunshine and claiming that Nebraska is a juggernaut now. What we saw was NU beating up on a crap P5 team. But it is a P5 team that is always well coached and a team that has given us headaches more often than not, even on our home field. And keep in mind that we lost our opening game to what is probably an equally crappy P5 team. So one can understand why Nebraska fans are seeing at least some rays of hope in our performance against NW. We beat a crappy team the way you should beat a crappy team if you yourself are worth a damn. And beyond the blowout final score, we simply looked crisp and clean and efficient. And those are things we have not been against ANY team in a long time. Everybody on here who is still basking in the afterglow of that game knows damn well that we could still lay a turd the rest of the season. But we saw enough good things Saturday night and enough rays of hope to start thinking that we are at least a team on the rise again. Maybe we aren't. But the difference this year is our defense which can keep us in any game. Against anyone. I for one am going to enjoy this win. And if Michigan beats the stuffing out of us I will be deflated. Such is sports.

Option plays can work. The sooner and quicker Frost's offense morphs into a similar attack that Jamey Chadwell uses the more successful the offense will become.

People tend to go stupid when they hear "option football" and think it means the wishbone.

I bet the offense averages more than 10 yards a carry via option plays this entire season.

More option, more points.

Don't care about the Duke yards against NW. Nebraska gave a solid *** kicking against a P5 school. Duke didn't do to Northwestern what Nebraska did to Northwestern.

I've said for years when Nebraska joined the Big Ten that a good Nebraska team should never struggle to beat IL, Purdue, MN and NW.

The offensive game plan for Northwestern was very much like the Oregon offensive game plans when Frost was the OC, RBs running the ball, the QBs throwing about 20-25 per game, starting QB running about 8 times per game.

The first half was pretty balanced, clearly there was success running the ball, and in the second half, except for the 4 passes thrown by the backups, the play calls were almost exclusively run.

Utilizing the WR in the run game and option game was staple of the Frost offense at Oregon and UCF. When needed he can also use the RBs in the passing game, which you will see next week against a team that will slow down the traditional run game, like Michigan.

Two years ago in Memorial Stadium, we needed a last-second FG by a fifth-string walk-on safety to beat a last-place NW team. Progress.

for the first time in a long while, i feel like we're a dangerous team.

even under pelini & riley, most wins felt like fools gold, knowing we were going to get absolutely shelled by a good team.

The only game that the option was not run was Oklahoma. It appears Frost is using the run game to eat clock and strike over the top when the safeties come up. I look for the option to be used in the second half only. I think Frost will try to establish between the tackles and pop over the top. The final score will be low with a defensive struggle. Will they open with a deep pass again?

Agree. I go further to say I saw good things in the OU and MSU games too even though we lost. We at least were in position to win those games against ranked teams instead of getting down early, falling apart and getting embarrassed. So maybe we are on the upswing.
