Any thoughts on Smothers last night

He might be ok. Kinda wanted to see Haarberg but was cool to see Masker ball out
Masker looked confident and comfortable. Nice arm. Seems like he is pretty tough taking in safety like he did as well. There are years in last 10-20 he would have gotten starts. 8 looks a bit small

I think there is no doubt that he is the number 2 quarterback when compared to Adrian Martinez. Winking

I thought, and have thought that if 2AM goes down, we won't be totally hosed with Smothers coming in. Hard to tell because we were burning clock and not wanting to run it up on NW, but he seems confident and appears to know what he is doing. I thought Masker looked good too.

I wish Haarberg was the backup

dude looks like a full grown man on the sidelines, easily 3-4 inches taller than AM
You really need let the kid grow on his own.. apparently he has the tools but he must not be beating out Smothers during the week…

Give him another spring under his belt..

Liked seeing Masker out there, but I'm biased because I'm a Kearney Catholic alum. I don't remember the specific records, without looking them up, but Masker broke some of Frost's high school records.

I think unless something happens to AM and LS they hope to redshirt him.

Smothers is an explosive runner and an ok passer I think. He looks inexperienced but there are skills there that could make for quite a player if he settles in.

Let him get a crease in the run game and you'll see him get gone like Betts can.

Can still play in 4 games and redshirt right?
Glad they got in backups last night. Only nitpicking, I wish

- Smothers got in at least one series earlier and got to actually run the offense and not just burn clock mostly
- Is Haarberg or Masker your #3? If it's Haarberg should have played him. When in the remaining games do you likely get him in to count against the 4?

Masker must have been 3rd because he came in at the end..

Definitely a serviceable backup. Hope he gets shot next season
Better than serviceable. Both Smothers and Masker (and Haarberg too, from what I am told) are really smart young men and hard workers. They both know the offense real well and are well prepared and confident. The stage is not too big for either one and they would do a good job if thrust into the middle of a close game. Just my opinion, but I believe the QB depth and quality to be underated.

He needs some work on his option game. One play he pitched way late and ran his man to the sideline trying to block.

Yeah I was actually kinda pissed we didn’t give smothers real play calls. I get the game and the respect but it’s also prime time to get him meaningful snaps
