I noticed that too, and I think it's because we line up in an even front so often that they are hybrid defensive ends.
I saw that, and am hoping the "or" is not real and that Martin is the true #1. CTB has fcked up a PR in 3 of the last 4 games, seems very obvious he shouldn't be in that role.
You're all going to be bitching about all the fair catches soon enough. CTB is the one of the few guys on the team who can make a big play on special teams.
Absolutely would be thrilled with fair catches if that is what starts our offense and not our defense for the next series.
He made plenty of returns over 10 yards last year. Noone else on our team can do that.
Who was the guy we put in to back him up? He muffed the punt too, he's just lucky it went out of bounds. Special teams coaching is still atrocious and I don't think there's a single guy we can put back there who won't **** up.
This is stupid. There are plenty of people to choose from here. Alante, Betts, probably some other corners. Stop thinking he is the only one that can do it.
Brody Belt. Hell I'd put Smothers out there before CTB and Belt. Baffling we can't put playmakers back there.
CTB is our playmaker back there. If he ***** up again then he's out, but we need to give him one more chance.
No we don't. He sucks at PR - he also cost us vs Iowa last year when he muffed it. Unless you have a known returner like DPE then all I care about is catching the damn ball. It's hard to have good punt returns anyways. Just have Martin back there to catch it
I'll be disappointed, but he will still be ahead of what CTB has done from there.
Note CTB's punt return mistakes potentially cost the team wins against both Iowa and Illinois. He's screwed up punt returns in 3 of the last 4 games.
Does he need to cost the team a few more wins before we decide that the extra potential 9 yards is not worth giving the opponent a free score or short field after stopping their offense?
Fundamentally speaking, the old school 5-2 was basically the 3-4 with the both Edge guys almost always rushing.
The 3-4 requires our OLB to defend the edge. The same guys lining up on the edge in the 3-4 happen to play DE in our 2-4-5 set. You really can call them what ever you want but you'd be better off thinking of them as just Edge defenders. They happened to do the same thing with the DTs. They play DE in our 3-4 but DT in the 4-2-5.
It is kind of funny though. Don't think I've seen any other 3-4 / 4-2-5 teams follow that labeling.

That's a fair point, but if the coaches had Cam end over end snap instead of spiral snap when it became clear he had issues getting it down might have been better for the team instead of just better for Cam.
I don't really care if CTB is sent out to recieve a kick but he need to be taught to fair catch that ball and not think about catching it and finding a route. Fool me once...
If anything, CTB sucks at defense. Every giant run play we've given up this year has been his fault since he's not playing the right gap in his run fits.
