Third place but losing ground? Coaches named him last week. He should be in the running for meaningful playing time still

I haven't heard any speculation about our nickel-back. I wonder if the "loser" of the CB competition is the winner in the nickel-back competition. I really haven't heard anything.

Getting on the field with regularity is a win for anyone.

He'll probably see some time with nickel/dime/quarters obvious passing situations. Probably special teams as well.

Erik Chinander says Quinton Newsome and Braxton Clark are “fighting it out” for the starting corner spot opposite CTB. #huskers"

Always thought Clark was the #1 guy there assuming he healed 100% from his injury. As for the others, just look who we lose after this season...lot of spots suddenly open and depth needed. I expect to see Tyreke at safety.

What I'd like to know is what happened to the highly touted Joseph? Don't hear anything about him in Fall camp. Is he injured, not with the team any more or just not impressing the coaches?
Good question. BIO: Joseph was ranked as the nation's top junior college defensive back and No. 2 overall junior college recruit by ESPN. He chose the Huskers over numerous other offers including Alabama, Baylor, Georgia and Texas A&M. Joseph initially signed with Georgia out of high school.

NU staff throwing out different names so Bret won't know who is starting at what position, because Frost thinks it's good to be all crafty like that and somehow that will give him an edge.

Please.

What he doesn't understand is Bret doesn't care about all that BS. He's just going to come straight at you and kick your ***.

Maybe he just isn't that good. He left Ohio State because he knew he wasn't gonna see the field. He also didn't get here until fall camp, while Newsome and Clark were here all spring. It doesn't have to be that complicated

Really hoping we finally have some dudes who won't put up with that on the d-line.

I always cast a wary eye on guys like that. It can work out, but it's usually guys that have proven themselves elsewhere, like Falck and hopefully Toure.

These great practice players better translate to great game day players. It's one thing to practice great and quite another to actually play great in games.

Farley was the one that was legendary for being the worst practice player but best player on game day.

I wonder what is practice habits were. Loafer? Checked out mentally? But damn that kid could play
Rumor was he never knew what was going on or where to line up. Which really might even be the case in the games, i think they sort of just let him go where he wanted a lot of times.

I’m pretty sure I heard he was injured. No idea about the duration.

And the legend continues. He was "the worst" at practice, didn't know where to line up on D but somehow made great plays. I have no clue why Tom and McBride kept him around. I guess just for Saturdays.

I doubt he's fully grasped the defense at this point. I expect him to play this year. People think you just show up and play. Unfortunately for some very talented guys, having to play a fairly complex defensive system is not easy for them to grasp. He's got plenty of time and we're going to have several openings after this year.

Pretty much. His alcoholism might have had something to do with his issues.

My guess...

Coaches doesn't really believe half the **** they say, the other half, he wasn't as bad as a practice player as legend has it.

Farley apparently played well and didn't even know where to line up. Come on man!

They did mention Johnson being in the battle for the starting spot a couple weeks ago, which surprised me. The dude just got here and we’ve got guys with some experience in this system. He will start at safety or corner next season. Nadab will also play more next year. We are in great shape at these spots IMO.

Excited to see what Clark can do as a starter, hopefully he didn’t lose a step with that injury like a lot of guys seem to.

Farley's alcohol problems were pretty widely known. It was also pretty well known that he didn't always remember his assignments. That isn't unique for a very talented guy. Pelini used to call out LaVonte David often his first year at NU for free lancing and not being assignment sound when people gushed about how many tackles he had in a game. Linebackers especially, blow assignments every Saturday. Some more often than others. Being drunk or hung over at practice, which reportedly happened more than once, didn't help Farley. Good college player with issues.

Johnson is going to play this year. It isn't surprising that a guy who has had 3 weeks to learn the defense isn't going to supplant 2 talented guys with several years of experience in the system. I continue to be amazed at the number of posters who will write a young player off in his first year or two.

We need 4 solid corners and they are Taylor Britt, Braxton Clark, Myles Farmer and Tyreke Johnson
