The flip side to that is how many have we had called on us? How many yards, first downs and games did that cost us?

I think Penn State had a holding call against them. We only seem to have fairly officiated games when we play Penn St, Maryland & Rutgers… coincidence? I think not.

Slow and poorer talented players need to try and get any and every advantage they can get.

That means penalties for the most part.

If a Left Tackle struggles mightily to block a rush end, he'll go offsides, hold, or any a number of other penalties. If an interior lineman needs an 'off' to neutralize his opponent, he'll be looking to beat a snap count. A CB that can't cover a guy will 'hands' him as much as he can.

This is why Ferentz is actually somewhat of a genius. He takes nobodies, and makes them better than they could ever imagine on the OL and DL, and then plays umbrella coverage on the back end to never let anybody behind them. He'll do everything he can to stop you from running the football. And if you are more physical than their 2 and 3 stars, or are straight up more talented across the board like tOSU, then so be it.

Yea I am thought the streak came to an end but it sure made you question some things with how reduculous it was. Other side is the ball than what I think was being referenced, but Northwestern amazes me with their holding by their defense(corners) that they get away with

Wow, if this is true than the BIG is totally biased. It is impossible to go 500 plays without a holding call against us. If you watch the tape Wiisconsin and Iowa have a hold against us on almost every single play.

Right, if our defensive line just sits there playing patty cake with the offensive line, the refs are never going to call that. Get some damn pressure, force the offensive line out of position, and use the proper leverage to bullrush or get around the OL and we'd start getting a lot more holding calls.

True and has been brought up for two years now how Nebraska opponents never get called for holding.

It’s pathetic watching Wisconsin linemen literally tackle defenders to the ground and NEVER get called for it.

Sucks no matter what but….

Is 0 holds so spectacularly out of line when wisky comes in with 2 and 3 other teams come in with 4 or less?

That chart is several years old and is when people started noticing not a single Nebraska opponent gets called for holding. It hasn’t changed years later, Nebraska opponents don’t get called for holding, while Nebraska gets their dicks knocked into the dirt with non-stop BS penalties.
Sorry but that’s a problem whether you’re a Nebraska fan or not, as it shows corrupt big ten officiating or the very least, biased officiating, which is just lesser corruption.

The hold they called on us on a one yard TD run we had vs Illinois last year was the worst penalty called in the history of football.

The bigger question I have is when the flag is thrown… at least 2 times last year it was thrown against us on the 1 yard line. On running plays.

I'm not sure what the numbers say regarding 2019 and 2020, but the Minnesota game in 2018 broke a long stretch of no calls when the Gophers had a TD play called back on an offensive hold.

Specifically, it was the first conference offensive hold called against a Nebraska opponent in 21 games.

About the 12:30 mark.

Stat is b.s., just look back at the play-by-play of our last game against, Rutgers:
  • 1st & 10 at NEB 45

(7:36 - 3rd) RUTGERS Penalty, Offensive Holding (-10 Yards) to the Rutgr 45

One part of me would gladly trade getting few calls against for the honor of being able to hold on every down at every position like Wisconsin. At the end of the day I don't want to have to cheat to win...

Big Ten officials are notorious for not calling offensive holding, especially on the LOS. There are multiple stories on this. Some are old like that graph and some are new, but the results are the similar, not many holding calls.

It was broken before than game. It was mentioned during the Minnesota game I think.

It could also indicate how physically overmatched and under coached Nebraska linemen have been since entering the BIG.

There were only 4 P5 schools to have less penalties on their opponents than Nebraska last year, but stats similar in other years haven't really shown to affect the W/L column like you'd think.

I don't know if the number of plays was correct but we went almost 2 years without a holding penalty called on an opponent while we were racking 5 or 6 a game. Watching replays it was pretty obvious that there could have been multiple blatant holding calls on our opposition. As a Michigan fan you shouldn't be that surprised by that. I've seen Michigan jobbed by the zerbars many times when playing OSU. Anybody that doesn't believe that the refs aren't aware what the outcome of certain games means for the conference, their employers and their jobs is living in fantasy land.

When your AD has a hand in the supervision of officials it makes a difference. Why Alavarez has so much clout with the B1G is a mystery to me. He has to have pictures of some people in compromising situations.

It’s to make more parity across the league for closer games/TV ratings. Otherwise teams like Northwestern/Iowa/Wisconsin would be blown out far more often. Follow the money.

Not saying we deserve to win more games because we murder ourselves most games, but officials have not helped us.

There seems to be some biased officiating. I think PSU fans could provide a lot of examples.
