Break through infections does not equal clinically ill or hospitalized. Breakthrough means tests positive. As far as I can tell from what I can see of the chart, it is measuring breakthrough infections only. We already knew that. Thanks for the chart. Did you see if Mayo was recommending quarterly vaccinations based on their study?Winking
What they're trying to determine with that information is when boosters will be needed. I expect immunosuppressed and elderly people to get boosters this fall and everybody else probably at a year.

Why would more spike protein from vaccine "concentrate" in the ovaries than spike protein from natural infection with the whole virus? Answer: It doesn't. Vaccination is over 5000X safer than getting the natural infection. You get exponentially more viral protein from a natural infection than you do a vaccination. More fear mongering.

So you believe the theory that somebody who is vaccinated is going to produce a stronger version of a virus than an unvaccinated person who gets infected? Good heavens that logic is beyond stupid. In my 35 plus years of dealing with population medicine I've never seen so much horseshit speculation from armchair epidemiologists/virologists and social media is making them all out to be experts.
What has happened is that virus circulating through unvaccinated people has in fact allowed mutation to the Delta, Lambda and now B1.1.7 strain in the Middle East. You get WAY higher and longer viral shedding in an unvaccinated person than you do in a vaccinated person. Those strains had to have mutated months before the vaccine was available and were not part of the original design of the vaccines. As such the vaccine is not as effective against those new strains.
IF we had let COVID roar through the world population without vaccination and mitigation efforts no doubt we would be producing some population immunity to these new strains but there is NO doubt that they would still be circulating. The bottom line is that it appears this China virus is going to continue to do it's thing for a long long time.
This is the US and you have a right to choose. I'm not against vaccines but people can choose to do what they want. That is the beauty of the US. Why are you so worried about it if you are vaccinated? It really makes no sense to me why the vaccinated are so worried about the choices of the people who don't vaccinate?? Everyone literally has had the chance to receive the vaccine and if they didn't get it, that is their problem to deal with and also the consequences are theirs to deal with. Shoot man... This is not a sterile vaccine like that of smallpox. We were originally told that the vaccine would be effective at stopping transmission. We now know that is 100% false. A report came out today that the Pfizer vaccine is now only 42% effective against the Delta variant.
These are imperfect, leaky vaccinations that put pressure on the virus to mutate since it does not stop it in its tracks with the patient. They may lesson symptoms of the disease, but that's all they do.

Your interpretation of what "42% effective against the Delta variant" means is lacking. That doesn't mean that it has no benefit 58% of the time. It means that it is only 42% effective at preventing viremia. It still is helping reduce the severity of disease.
The variants are a problem and they're going to have to start churning out vaccines with additional antigens in them to compensate for that. I believe that they're already working on those and will have them available soon. Given the way this thing has mutated so quickly I'm even more convinced that China was working on weaponizing this damned thing. This is behaving way more aggressively than what we've seen from previous Corona viruses.
I've said for a several months now that I was hoping to get exposed to wild virus early and often after I was vaccinated. Natural infection still produces the highest level of immunity to COVID. They are seeing some breakthrough infections though of Delta in people who had COVID previously.

As far as being a "sterile" vaccine goes, Moderna's and Pfizer's are inactivated viral protein. They are in fact sterile. AstraZeneca's is not a killed vaccine. It is an attentuated modified live adenovirus with COVID proteins spliced in to it. I wouldn't take the AstraZeneca vaccine.

If FACT there were multiple mutation variants long before we had a vaccine available. From the very beginning they could trace where the virus traveled from by the mutations present. The strain in New York came almost exclusively through Europe. The strain on the west coast came primarily directly through Asia. Delta was already present overseas when this vaccine hit the market. Lambda was the predominant strain in South America way before they had any widespread vaccinations down there.
What they didn't count on was the continued rapid mutations in virulent forms. They though they had included enough virulence producing spike proteins from the different major strains for the vaccine to offer cross protection. What is alarming is that normally what has happened with Corona viruses is that when they mutate they become less virulent. This one is not behaving that way.
