Throughout the history of mens soccer I can name one dude, sort of, Alexie Lalas?

For the women, I can name two, purple hair and the one that ripped her shirt off.
I used to make fun of soccer but once all the major Euro leagues started being broadcast in the mornings over here it was really easy to get in to. The atmosphere is great (except the blatant racism). Went to a couple of EPL matches in 2019 and it was really cool. Saturday mornings are great because the matches are on right up until kickoff for the college games. Beats watching the Gameday stuff on ESPN.

so if they both take a knee should both teams have deserved to lose?

Why are they kneeling? Seriously, I can't keep up with what's en vogue anymore. Is it still to protest all of the racist cops, or is there something else? Did they kneel for Sweden's anthem?

I like pregame stuff, I feel like I am the only one that still watches it.

I actually saw a commercial with an all white family in it last night. Dead serious. No color anywhere, no gay people, even the cat looked to be straight. What kind of company would be so blatantly racist in the current climate in which we live?

Diversity is not a good thing when it's used as an excuse to lower standards and to give some people unfair advantages over others.
that point is actually arguable in the literature. There are documented benefits to including outside views in management decisions from individuals who are not part of upper management. Thus lowering standards of who was deserving to be in upper management actually benefitted the organization through better decision making

They arent kneeling during any of the anthems. Just a 10 second deal right before first kick. Most soccer leagues have been doing this all season. I assume its an equality deal.

its interesting both teams kneeled but its not interesting enough to spend any time researching it. why is it such a big deal to people? let them live their lives and like most of you say "you take care of you and i'll take care of me".
people dont want to be told to wear a mask for the safety of others but they will spend a significant of time bitching and groaning because of the individual decisions athletes make. which is it? do we get to make individual decisions or do we consider others in our decisions? flippity flop flip

Equality, or equity? And equality for what? Are they still pissed because they don't get paid as much as the men's team?

I assume so. There was a doc on HBO Max this month that details the pay thing. Its pretty good. They ended up getting paid about as much as the men but had to do 2x the work to get it. Hard to pay them what they are worth when the womens game just doesnt generate remotely the same revenue.

They kneeled, I asked a question as to why, and this is your response? You are much more agitated by my question than I was by their kneeling, which didn't agitate me at all. "Let them live their lives?" Sounds great. However, when someone makes it a point to do something to draw attention to themselves, then isn't it only natural to ask "why?" They are doing it for a reason, to make a point, to draw attention to themselves. Understand bigot? Do you know why they were kneeling, or is it too emotionally difficult for you to discuss?

Yeah, anyone with any sense of business understands this, yet here they are, kneeling in defiance of common sense and practicality. Poor mistreated very-well-paid and idolized athletes who get to live their lives playing a sport and raking in tons of endorsement dollars. My heart bleeds for them.

As someone who's spent two careers in government service (military and civilian), I've seen my fair share of "diversity" hires. Sometimes it works, but more often it doesn't.

The simple truth is that the slogan "diversity is our strength" is dumb and meaningless. How diverse a group is has no bearing on how well or poorly the group will perform.

That last line is contradictory and confusing. It is hard to pay them what they are worth if the game doesn't generate remotely the same revenue.

Their worth is directly tied to their generated revenues. That is why they have to work twice as hard to make the same amount of money as the men. It isn't because they are men specifically, it is because the product the men put out is more popular and generates more interest and money than the product the women put out.

To me, women's softball is much more entertaining than baseball. I would much rather watch a fastpitch game than any level of baseball. Not everyone sees it this way and that is why there is a fledgling pro fastpitch league and the MLB makes a **** ton of money. Again the product dictates the revenue, not the gender.

edit - The worth of my car or my house isn't decided by me, it is decided by how much the potential buyer is willing to pay me for it.

Were the women's soccer players asked to address this or comment on that important fact in the doc?

Seems like that point always gets lost (or ignored) in this debate.

I'm sure that one with the colored hair equally shares all her endorsement money with the rest of the team

Softball players tend to come in one of two forms...princesses, or linebackers.

Yes it was talked about but then the focus was out back on the USA soccer governing body who also can't seem to get out of their own way. Little things like having the women fly commercial and training facilities as well were addressed https://www.si.com/soccer/2020/03/10/uswnt-us-soccer-arguments-court-filings

I'm the same way with women's tennis. Men's tennis most the time is serve, volley and point. I like the longer rallies. That being said a high quality men's match usually on clay is really fun. Those harder surfaces are tough to watch

A black college student that completes the prerequisite college coursework is virtually assured acceptance in to medical and other professional schools in many states if they apply. It is getting that way for immigrant college students as well. At some Ivy League colleges they also get the equivalent of full ride scholarships in addition to admission.

Reverse discrimination is real and IMO doesn't further race relations. I don't mind some "minor special consideration" given on the basis of overcoming bad situations as a youth, but it has gone to far.

Exactly. For all those saying we need to pay reparations: What do you think Affirmative Action is?

The irony of the tweet is that Sweedish mainstream policy makes even fringe-liberal US policy look like something out of the early 1900s. Sweeden has actual democratic socialism...like what do you think the joke is?

Think Rapino was pissed they got beat by a bunch of white chicks?

On another note: Iowa is trying to win back the black recruits by naming their field after a black player. Think its a little too late for that.

Rapinoe said they got their asses kicked and it was true. She only played 30 minutes. Guess this is as good of a loss in the grand scheme. Hopefully they wake up in the group stage sooner then later. They represent the diversity and excellence of our country about as any squad in recent history.
I hope like hell they lose every game. They are an embarrassment to the country. Woke is the ruination of this generation and country.

Not a good comparison.

Diversity is cleverly undefined by the political class.

But experience teaches us it is about "gender" and "color" and "religion" and "physical ability" and "age" and "sex pref". Nothing to do with ability, commitment, intelligence or content of character.

ALL of these diversity badges are immaterial in making sound management decisions.

"lowering" says a lot of your view of what happened. Doesn't exactly sound like a ringing endorsement.

I would argue you made the opposite point.

Additional people's views and ideas were included because they are beneficial views and ideas not because they were diverse as defined above.

Go Blue!

woke is a word invented for political gain. I would say your hook-line-sinker acceptance of political shenanigans is a much greater threat to the country than 20 women soccer players kneeling before a game. the fact that it bothers you is a greater threat to the country than the act itself.
You are exhibiting the same behavior as what you blame others of.
