The deal locks Venables in through 20225-26 seasons.. It will pay him 2.5 million annually, which is more than many FBS Coaches make..

Vennables has helped Clemson win 2 National titles since 2012..

His job security is the same as the Head Coach if not less. Only if you're a really good winning coach do you have job security. Only upside is that he doesn't have as much responsibility and time commitment as the HC. He is a solid proven DC and Clemson is acting like a real Big Boy Program. Clemson doesn't look to below average Sun Belt DC.

Once he was unsuccessful stealing Ohio St's signals, Clemson preceeded to get beat down. Loved every minute of it. I think he gets paid more so he can pay his "play stealing assistants" under the table money. Now that everybody knows, I don't think he's gonna be as successful. You watch.

Their defense will be scary this year. I think they've got a national title if they just improve their offensive line. Their OL was about as bad as ours last year.

Man, stealing signals vs an up tempo team, then signaling to your team what the changes are?

I mean...you are talking about seconds, probably not happening.

Brent Venables is a 50 year old Kansas native.
Surprise to me that he would still be that young. Just seems like he's been around forever. Always in the conversation each football season and he used to be mentioned for just about every head coach opening although they've finally given up on that after he turned down so many opportunities.

“Maybe” he realizes that his strength as a coach is coordinating the defense and relishes that challenge. “Maybe” he doesn’t want the headache of being the head coach and losing the day to day challenge of being a coordinator.

Making 2.5 million a year is also a nice incentive to lead the defense at one of the top college programs in the country. Winking

And maybe it's not all about money with him. There are a few people out there who are happy to have a "comfortable" income and do not need to maximize the money. I'm sure his income is plenty "comfortable".
