What is delusional? Hoping, wanting, and expecting your team to be good? Yes, that’s us. I know we all hope we can return to the glory days. Nobody knows if it will ever happen but I think the unwavering interest and high expectations are what make our fan base great. We care. When we stop expecting and hoping for success, we are just another team with a half full stadium of apathetic fans. Call it what you want but I’ll take it over lack of interest and low expectations.

To those saying Nebraska fans are expecting a return to the 90s, I ask you to show us, via this board, even one single poster whose expectation is that we should get back to the 90s.

I don’t see fans clamoring for that on this board anywhere. I do see fans wanting an improved product on the field.

Those who said this is clickbait are absolutely spot on. Why would Finebaum have anything to say about a team in the middle of 4 losing seasons? He knows Nebraska fans will bite. If he wrote this about any other team in the West, he wouldn’t get any clicks. But Nebraska? Hook, line and sinker.

Yes

How dumb can you be to fire 2 9 to 10 win coaches.

The fan's expectations have killed this program.
I always thought Solich should have been given more time. That being said, a lot of the fan base, including me weren't real happy he was essentially appointed head coach by Osborne while Byrne was on vacation. The AD should have been allowed to do his job and conduct a national search. If Frank got the job that way, then so be it.

As far as Pelini goes, there was more to it than just wins and losses. I was OK with his antics, but I think most fans who wanted him gone weren't delusional he should be winning more. They were tired of his rude press conferences, constant threats to quit for a "better" coaching position, sideline antics, pants-pissing, etc. That kind of thing bothers more people than you might think.

The only issue I've ever seen/heard is when fans think it's our birthright to be good because "We're Nebraska!" 20+ years of crappy football has beaten that out of most fans, but some still exist. We'll get back to being good if/when we earn it and will have to work hard to stay there.

My own observation is that Nebraska fans have definitely lowered their expectations at this point. From Devaney through Solich, the expectation was definitely perennial top 10 and frequent top 5. Nebraska hasn't performed at that level since 2001, but the entire time we were in the Big 12, it was hoped we could return to that level, although by the end I think the expectations were probably lowered to perennial top 15 and occasional top 10. After a decade in the Big 10, I honestly think the expectations - for now - have been lowered to barely top 25 (basically occasionally upset Wisconsin and consistently beat the rest of the ho-hum Big 10 West) - I think Frost would survive with those results (none of the six coaches before him would have survived that long term).

Yes and no. The long term expectations of the program are definitely to compete for national titles again. If not they wouldn't spend $5 mil a year on the most sought after head coach at the time, and wouldn't have the donations to be breaking ground on the new facility. I would agree that the short term goals are not at that level. Most people agree with me there. Where most of the disagreement comes from is how we get from 3-5 to 12-0.

I think if Mike Riley had Bo Pelini results, he wouldn’t have been fired. Or if Bo Pelini wouldn’t have been such a dang sourpuss, he wouldn’t have been fired.

Let him call us want he wants..We all know that we have hit rock bottom the past 6 years and now we’re at our lowest since Bill Jennings left..

I’ve seen my national titles I just hope the younger fans can be as unfortunate as a lot of us elderly Husker fans that were brought up during the Devaney era...

I have confidence that we can win the West more times than not it’s just taken longer than we expected under Frost...

Starts by beating Wisconsin, Northwestern, Minnesota and Ioway consistently...
lol remember when we thought we were hot ****... good times
