So we just got BTN+ mid-game tonight. Are these announcers broadcast journalism majors? I am seriously unimpressed with the entire production.

Good for you.
Yes.
We all have to learn somewhere that maybe we're not cut out for a particular profession.

Nice job, Huskers. I haven't watched the team yet this year but this is shaping up as a very solid season.

I honestly have no problem with students calling games. Not polished, but gotta lean somehow. Big ten claims to be an academic conference why not have students produce and announce games on app. And I actually enjoyed the call on the suicide squeeze.

But how many message board arguments did he start?

Well, I'm really just thankful to watch my guys. It just seems strange to get student announcers when paying for a premium package. My biggest issue was the camera work. Are students working the production truck too?

In any event, it's really nice to see the lads play since my wife dragged me off to live in southwest Wyoming which is a baseball black hole.

Premium? Its freaking $10 a month. Hardly call that premium. Its not like thats the only game they are broadcasting.

What I don't get is there's a bunch of B1G alternative channels on dish......why don't they use them

Moos is batting 1/3?? That average would make you millions in MLB.

that’s 1/3 so far. I have a gut feeling we will see Fred Hoiberg and the Husker basketball team start turning things around starting next season too. And before anyone pops off, I don’t mean win the BIG or anything like that next season. But a much improved team that competes and wins more games.

Frost and the football team? We shall see. The pieces are there and the football team has the potential to turn the corner and compete in the West. But I’m still taking a wait and see approach there. Frost turning the corner with our football is a win/win for everyone involved. I truly hope he succeeds and gets our football team going again. If he doesn’t, he will leave plenty of talent for the next head coach.

They'd probably have to pay the students more (or at all) if they broadcast it on an actual television channel.

And by all accounts Bolt was his 3rd choice behind Childress and Pat Casey
While it would have been nice to get Childress (52) or Casey (62, retired after 2018), Bolt (41) is the right "level" in his career to take over Nebraska and the right background. He'll likely be around much longer than Childress or Casey would have been.

Casey would have been a "right the ship for a year then ride off into the sunset" hire, and you're putting him in an awkward position of essentially handing him a "head coach in waiting" or letting him pick the next head coach (or door #3: having another complete staff turnover after a season).

Childress has coached at a much higher level and would have only been here as a resort to pressure on the A&M side from the administration and boosters.

Bolt is the proverbial overachiever and coaching at his alma mater. He's already moved away once to Texas A&M to coach with Childress and be closer to his and his wife's parents while their kids were young. With continued success here, I could see Bolt being a candidate as A&M head coach when Childress retires. But that's something I'm willing to take because it means Bolt was successful at Nebraska.

The Big Ten isn't anywhere near top of the heap in college baseball. Look at Tracy Smith: built a powerhouse at Indiana and still jumped ship to Arizona State. But maybe the emotional pull will keep Bolt at Nebraska if he has the success we're expecting him to have.

Regardless, while I'll be disappointed if Bolt is successful and leaves eventually, I won't be mad. It's a business, he has to do what is right for himself and his family, and get while the getting's good.

with any luck, Bolt will retire a Husker coach and we won’t have to worry about replacing him for awhile.

well you definitely aren’t wrong. With the talent him and Matt A. are bringing in and the players we bring back next season, topped off with the progress we made towards the end of the season. We should be a much improved team.
