I suspect Shaka was asked to find a new place before UT was forced to pull the trigger. Saves face for him and money for Texas. Plus, Marquette is a top-tier basketball job.

TxT's Chris Beard will be forced to say "no" to his alma and a lot of Longhorn coinage, methinks. Red Raider fans have to be feeling a little queazy.

Not sure I agree about Marquette being a top-tier job. Buzz Williams was a hot commodity when he went to Marquette, had quite a bit of success there, but then ditched them for Virginia Tech.

Milwaukee's a good basketball city and the Big East has a great TV deal. But I'm still a bit surprised Smart chose to take the Marquette job.

Marquette is not Texas, I'll give you that. But it's not Nebraska either. How's that for a little flame. ;)

Shaka had 9 top 50 recruits on this year's UT squad. He won't get that type of talent to Marquette, but his kids will likely play harder, I concur, WestcoastCorn.

UT will look at Beard first (Indiana fans are now crying) and they will look at Underwood, who I don't think would be interested.

If Texas is looking for someone who can get them to the Final Four, a couple of Elite Eights and six straight Sweet 16s, they could always re-hire Rick Barnes.

Hahaha!

That is so funny! They totally dropped the ball when they made him leave.

Underwood crapped his pants in this year's tournament. Porter Moser would be more likely than underperforming Brad.

Ha...

Underwood has Texas ties. If UT hires Porter, who, was fired from two HC gigs and only "got good" once he got Krutwig, who is gone after this year, well...good luck!

Born and raised in Madison, Going back to his home state may have been part of the appeal for Smart.
