We used to (younger years) rent a 47-passenger bus, charge everybody $40 or $50, head for Lincoln (from Norfolk). Tickets, bus, driver, everything but your booze paid for. I and a friend were responsible for getting the tickets (kind of a hassle). 40 or so people and 40 or 50 coolers - a little crowded. The last time was the year it got rained or flooded out. Still spent a long day in Lincoln and many points between there and home.

I went to UNL in the 90s -
I never went to Pears that much -but I feel like they had Penny Pitchers of beer on certain nights. Maybe thursdays.
All this talk of wings and beer isn't helping....
Yes, 50% it is with seating in every other row and masks required. Max of 4 tickets per order.
Probably my favorite bar while I was at UNL in the mid-late 80's. If I recall the prices correctly, they had $1 pitchers and $.10 tacos on Friday nights. Nothing like getting hammered, playing drunk volleyball and nearly shitting yourself for a few bucks!
Went past the former Pears location two weeks ago -- it has been completely bullbozed and is now a vacant lot. What a hoot that place was. I once saw a jalapeno eating contest there. Two big burly guys ate about 6-8, then a petite Hispanic gal stepped up and downed about 15 to win going away. Crowd went nuts. Just toss your empty cans on the floor; if a worker asked, "Hey, do you do that at home?" The answer was always yes, and he'd be fine with it. Great beer specials and lots of girls. Rivaling that was the original Oscars under the viaduct with it's 32 oz. $1 beers, then stumble up to the Waterhole (later a clothing store), Rail and Derloafenstein. My mother once saw my checkbook with line after line of $15 checks made out to Brass Rail. I told her that's where I go to cash checks, and she asked why I never went to Safeway. Into the early 80's there was also a fun place at the corner of 25th and O. All the lost brain cells prevent me from recalling the name.
If only I could have made a career of being a professional junior in college ...
lol, that's why I said everyone has to do their own research... you can then choose what you want to believe. I reviewed some of the data on Vaers, and for me, it's a no brainer to choose the J&J over the mRNA. At least that is what the data tells me at this point in time. Unless you were being facetious, then I would agree with you.
Honestly I don't know why the B1G would even put any kind of restriction on a Spring game. It involves no competition with another B1G team so there's no "level playing field" to be worried about. Let schools follow whatever their local guidelines permit. Spring games are different situations than teams competing for championships in the fall.
I remember the Waterhole and "The Rail", anybody remember the funky joint with live music, the Zoo, we're talking late 70s.

I don't live in Lincoln anymore, but I think The Zoo is still around. Place was a fixture on the blues circuit for decades. Saw many fantastic performers there, including Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, Dave Alvin. Had to be willing to go midweek, because that's when they pulled in bigger acts who played Kansas City, Chicago, etc., on weekends.
Is it the big10 limiting? I thought it was being left to the local health directives. Currently at 50%, but by May 1 it could be 75%
I only saw the 4 seat restriction listed for the non donor/season ticket holders. Hope it isn’t like a few years ago when those groups are up large groups of tickets taking away from the average fan.

I went there 3 days a week in 2018, 2019, and part of 2020. All my friends were bartenders and if you remotely knew them they gave you free drinks all weekend. Place was a riot. They made all their money from non-college kids on game days. No gameday...No Barry's
Yeah, that makes sense. Their gameday crowd was insane and they must have made a fortune.
But I could see where the rest of the days would be the issue. Maybe too big for its own good?
I think it's hard to survive on 7 BIG days (home games) a year. I bet they were limping along and just saw the writing on the wall when Covid hit.

I guess I always thought that like 10,000 people came through that place on gameday (I think I read that) and so those 7 games, plus the spring game, basically covered their basic expenses for the year but I guess not.
Hell, I still don't understand why some of the bars DON'T open early on gameday. I would open as early as the law allowed on gameday.
man when you think about it Nebraska should probably be the best team in the West every year based on their recruiting success. NEB probably has more higher star recruits than any team in the division.
on offense there is at least a 4 star recruit at almost every position. That is far and away the most of any team in the division and probably puts the offense top 10 in the country based on star ratings.
the D has fewer 4 stars but are sprinkled thru the roster.
while the offense is young and more talented based on stars than any program in the division the defense is the most experienced in the country.
there really is no excuse for NEB not to AT LEAST finish 2nd and probably should win the division with their edge in talent AND experience over everyone in the division.

I say this also -^^ if you just went by recruiting ratings - we should be a top 20 (maybe 10) every year. I'm taking a wait and see approach to this year.
I remember listening to an interview with Duval when we got here. While he was excited for the opportunity he said there was a lot of work to do - Now that those players have been in his system for a few years - you would think we would see those gains in the weight room translating into more wins at the end of the year.
I don't need to hear any hype this spring...
Just wins in the fall.
I saw Muddy Waters and BB King in Lincoln and I believe it was at the Zoo Bar. Between the Zoo and another bar in the same area, can't remember the name, but was a long, narrow "shotgun" bar saw a lot of great musicians, Leo Kotkie, Jerry Jeff Walker, etc.
Back in the late 70s when PO Pears opened it quickly became known as a "preppy hangout". That place tended to attract the aspiring "beautiful people" and was frequented by the fraternity and sorority crowd. People dressed up to go there. Their drink prices were high and I think there may have even been a cover charge on Friday and Saturday nights. The Bohemian/pothead crowd tended to go to the small bars with entertainment like the Zoo. The jocks went to places like Sweep Left and Barry's. People looking for a hardcore meat market scene went to Stooges (later Starship Enterprise) and Uncle Sam's. The perverts went to a couple stripper bars outside the city limits past the airport and out west. The hardcore alcoholics went to bars with ultra cheap drinks like Marie's Oasis by the bus station that served tall glasses of MD 20/20 for a dollar. I was a meat market guy and will say out of the whole list above, PO Pears was my last choice. As a poor kid from South Omaha, the women there didn't have much use for me.
It's interesting to me how pro-choice peeps try to define what it means to be pro-life. I get it works both ways, but you always hear "if you were truly pro-life..." from the pro-choice side then they bring up scenarios/issues that have nothing to do with the pro-life movement.
EDIT: There are no issues to access to birth control in the United States. It's funny when people try and bring that up.

Went to PO Pears and Sidetracks often in the late 80s. Is Barrymore's still open? It was like a theater that had been made into a bar. Another place we used to go was Chesterfield's. Is that place still open? It was below NBC (or NBSC (National Bank of Service Charges--ha!) as we used to call it).
Yeah I was at UNL from 02-06. I went to PO Pears a few times when I had a Jazz class because they had Jazz on Thursday night there and you had to go attend to get points. Decent place, but other than that never went there.
The bar scene in general in Lincoln has changed. We didn't have the Haymarket when I was in school and O street was the place to be. I feel like there are too many options and it is spread out now and not near as fun as it once was. I still enjoy game days at the bars, but it was dead the last time I went to the bars on a non-game day.
Is the game time 1pm?

yes. 1pm. I thought I saw something stupid on the tailgaiting like 10 or something. thats only 2.5 hours.
