Thank goodness Iowa State doesn't have a Mark Cuban.....that $10+ mil buyout for Fred is probably too much for the 'Clones

Fred wouldn't even consider going back to ISU as long as Pollard is still AD.

Darian DeVries would seem like the logical choice. A lot of Clone fans want Otzelberger, not sure why, he's struggled at UNLV so far.

Yep, all I hear about from the guy I work with is Otzelberger.

From what I have been reading on the Cyclone board, Fred maybe working the backrooms to get back to Ames. Unfortunately, Fred's time in Ames may have passed.

Pollard is the reason Fred left. They played in a tournament in Hawaii and after the last game Pollard would not pay for hotel rooms after the game. Made team go straight to the airport and wait in the terminal for the flight.

I find that hard it hard to believe Fred would go back there and work for Pollard...plus Fred has a $10 million buyout. ISU cannot afford that, on top of Prohm's $5 million buyout and the salary for the new coach.

Otzelberger is considered an elite recruiter. Coaching, not so much.

Prohm is also a great recruiter and mediocre coach, so it seems puzzling to me to pay millions to buy out Prohm, only to hire Otzelberger.

If they just want a great recruiter, it'd be a lot cheaper to just hire Matt Abdelmassih away from us, or Jerome Tang from Baylor.

Seriously...why would Iowa State even want Fred at this point?? How many years ago was he there and what has he accomplished since then? Got ran out the NBA, didn't do much there and has one of the worst, IF not the worst power 5 record over the last 2 years!

Besides Nebraska no one else in Power 5 would really want him right now except Iowa State just for sh!ts n giggles. Also why would Fred go anywhere else including Iowa State when he KNOWS he would haven't have a contract like he fleeced desperate Nebraska out of.

He KNOWS they have more patience than ANY other Power 5 program in BOTH basketball and football. He also has an AD who has NEVER cared if his coaches win or not at any athletic dept he has ran. Fred would be a FOOL to leave this GRAVY TRAIN!!

Prohm is not in Otzelberger's league when it comes to recruiting IMO. Hoiberg promoted TJ to Associate Head Coach at ISU and he was able to bring in quite a few highly ranked players that fueled Fred's success at ISU. Cyclone fan base wants him because they know all about his track record for recruiting while he was there. Otzelberger's 2021 recruiting class at UNLV is Top20 IIRC. Not saying Prohm s a slouch, only that TJ is at another level.

Haven't we all learned by now that no matter how much money a buyout costs and how poor the school is they always make it work somehow?

Meh. If we have learned anything around here its that hype around coaching hires is just that - hype. Some succeed, most don't. Good luck to the Clones.

Mother of god - does Iowa State know they only have 6 home football games paying out this kind of money

refreshing when an underachieving program focuses on getting better rather than trying to put forth a mirage of progress by simply watering down the competition under the guise of needing 8 home games

Otzelberger is a top notch recruiter. He will bring that program back
