Scottsbluff native Nate Lashley is tied for second entering today's final round. He played his college golf at Arizona. His parents and girlfriend were killed in a plane crash in Wyoming his junior year. It's hard not to root for this guy.

Nate graduated from Mitchell High School. He and his team won state championships in golf in 2000 and 2001.

If I remember correctly, he was a great HS basketball player.
He's a good friend of one of my friends. Good guy who overcame some horrible family tragedy. He and my friend communicate via text often. Nate stays with him when he's in the area.

I was hoping Speith could get back in the winners circle. I'm glad he is playing decent golf again, just needs to figure it out in the final round.

What a gorgeous course and I love the finishing hole... feast or famine... that tree would be a magnet for my ball( not saying I’m in any way worthy of that course!)

Ouch, he is going to catch some grief in the golf world for the way he acted. Slamming his club into the green gets jimmies rustled.

I agree -- your point is well taken. At least he was in the last group so his action did not impact other golfers who had yet to play the hole.

He had a meltdown on one of the greens in the final round. I think he got a triple.

I think a buddy of mine and I are going to go stay at the resort there and play Pebble. We've got cabin fever in a bad way and neither of us has played that course. It's expensive but I think it would be worth it. Take the wives and let them hang out at the spa while we golf.

4 putt and the 4th one coming back was a knee knocker. He just totally choked after he missed the first one. The old shoulder muscles got a little tight for him on those last couple of holes. Too bad. He's a good guy and most of the golf world knows his story and was rooting for him.

why does it have to be an either or? Im pretty sure Ive hit the same tree 2 shots in a row before.
Well, I have a minute to tell one of my favorite golf stories...about 10 years ago, two bizarre things happen to me on the same round on a small nondescript course in Hugoton, Kansas...the beautiful day warmth wise was accompanied by a HORRIBLE south wind...on a 400 yard par four, I LACED a drive as well as I can hit it...wind aided 350 yards(not my normal, but I CAN hit the occasional drive...my ball was ten yards behind a small fairway tree(who DOES that???) but still laying just a small pitch to the green. Meanwhile my nephew in law who is a pretty good player, hooks his drive into a tree about 50 yards ahead, and it bounces along the cart path BACKWARDS so he is now 425 away...I AM 375 YARDS AHEAD OF HIM!!!!!! He does not get mad, hits a incredible 3 wood about 250, then hits his third shot to about 5 feet from the hole...putts in...par. I, MEANTIME, manage to hit my second directly into the small tree's trunk, it takes a wicked side bounce, rolls behind a tree in the rough. 5 shots later i have an angry 7. Life is not fair.
Later, i'm on the tee box of #9, wind blowing 35mph into our faces...as I take my club back, a tumbleweed hits me in the junk...it did not hurt, but I've never laughed so hard,.....

I went to college with his wife. She is a stone cold knock out, but is also very cool. Good for Nate.

Been there, done that. I was once a scratch golfer (now a 4-6 range) and have done that on more than 1 occasion during competition. It gets into your head and almost nothing you can do to stop it.

Tournament golf is WAY different that any casual round. I have played at a pretty high level and once 5-putted at a US Open qualifier.

I could never get my handicap under the low teens. Shot 1 under a couple of times when I got hot with the putter but I didn't get in to golf until my 40s and was playing with a destroyed rotator cuff that I've lived with since I was a kid. I only played once or twice a week at most and never could get consistent enough with my driver and irons to take it any further. Then after a summer where I paid several thousand dollars in country club dues and played 2 rounds I decided my time was better spent doing something else. I try to play 9 holes once a year now. I can still birdie some holes but normally it's just bogey golf just to say I golfed. That said, I would probably practice a little bit IF we in fact take the bait and go to Pebble. I've always LOVED watching golf maybe as much or more than football. Great game.

Golf is such a crazy game. It's a sport where the weekend warrior can sometimes make a better shot than a pro. No way are we duffers as good or consistent as the pros but every once in awhile we are able to hit a shot that is better than theirs. I am a 17 handicapper. I am just too inconsistent. I've shot as low as the mid-70s, but those scores are rare. My bugaboo is I always manage to find a hole or two where I go brain dead and totally screw up. I have a nephew who is a graduate of UNLV's highly rated pro golf management program who works as a teaching pro. He is an excellent golfer and one of his greatest attributes is his patience. Sadly, I have none. (Nate and his sister had to deal with a tragedy that most of us thankfully never had to go through.)

That’s the thing... it’s tough to want to practice... my brother took the game up 10 years ago and he hits all the time now... and still barely beats me if he does... me? I’ll hit 5 balls at the range, 30 putts on the green, and look for other people's lost balls all round long!:)

Nate Lashley lost me A LOT of potential winnings on Sunday afternoon. I may never forgive him!
