Why do SOOO many of you hate on Wichita so much?
I’ll admit when I moved here, 44 years ago, from Campbell, I was not all that excited... but I have really loved having this as the place where I raised my family....

I love Wichita. Born there. Goddard Elementary school for a few years. Still have fam all over that area. Won't catch me hatin on Wichita. However, the people who run that city seem to have been caught flat footed....walking around the Old Market area there a few years ago (can't remember the actual name) led me to believe the city had zero plan for the changing times. Seemed like every other bldg was empty. Omaha leveled tbeir downtown and reinvented itself, Wichita just stood around wondering what happened?

Wichita...I was there a couple of times like 10+ years ago for work. There was a BBQ lunch place tucked in behind some kind of shop that seemed popular at the time. I recall it being cafeteria style, and you had to walk through the shop to even get to it. Any ideas?

I just think it's kind of on the dull side. But I would never actually hate on Wichita - I reserve that for Topeka.

And don't get let the cold get you down. 102 degrees with stifling humidity is just weeks away! :cool:

oh, wichita was a great city to grow up in
(i moved around a bit growing up).
its my 2nd hometown (Omaha is my original).
cut my teeth on the westside, unlike sparty though, he’s an eastsider.
i have many, many memories there.
some are really, really f’n great.
some are painful.
crazy stories are plentiful.
note: litespeed would be glad to know goddard cheerleaders dressed like the dallas cowboy cheerleaders back in the day - blue & white, gogo boots, short-shorts, lil vests - it was rather appealing. when theyd work at sonic for a fundraiser we’d haul on over for cherry limeades for a gander.

and it is flat.

Wichita is a neat town. Lots of aviation stuff. Cool factories. Spirit Aero is incredible.

Also, when you head to Derby there is the oddest Buddhist shrine out in the middle of nowhere.

Stopped at a kfc once there on the way home from Dallas back in 09 after Texas got 1 more second. Some homeless guy attempted to jump on our car, pretty much drove off with him on the hood, was sketchy AF. That’s my take on Wichita

Might have been the valet. KFC is considered fine dining in Wichita.

Several years ago I was offered a job at a college that I didn't even apply for. I came home and told my wife and she reminded me she would move anywhere I went but Wichita was one place she was not thrilled about. Wichita was always in the news and we called it stop, drop and dodge the bullets. They were always good for some really bad weather like hail as big as a house and tornadoes. Seems like we never made it through a full state track meet without some kind of weather issue.

In the day, had lots of meetings there and ate at some nice places that knew how to make things I never heard of and charge a lot for that.

Now the only reason I would go to Wichita is to finally meet Spartanhusker in person.

My grandmother was born and raised on a farm in Wichita. The farm was located at a prime spot -- the present intersection of NW 21st Street and the Little Arkansas River (which I found out is pronounced R-Kansas). I visited there in the late 80s when her last sibling died. There is now a church on the site. She met my grandfather there in the 1930s when he came through town as part of a crew stringing those new-fangled telephone wires and she was a secretary at a nearby office. There are still second and third cousins in the area, most of whom I have never met. So I have a soft spot for that ********.
Spartan, answer me this one -- as a proud Husker and Yorkite, why did you not send your kids to God's Country for higher education?

passed thru 21st and arkansas river area more than i can count, to and from wsu.
havent been thru in several years and i would probably still drive thru, but i wouldnt get out of my car for gas at night in that area.
