You are correct. Todd Reesing was a really good QB for Kansas. But I still stand by my comment that even Mangina would be an upgrade over our current line coach.

The line was supposed to be a strength this year and it is the weakest link on the team.

Again, he has one year of experience as an OL coach. I don’t think Austin is going anywhere, but not convinced that Mangino would even crack a top 100 list of candidates if he were.

If Austin isn’t going anywhere then we can expect the O-line play to be a liability for the foreseeable future. Not only are we at the bottom of the Big-10, we are at the bottom of D1 as far as O line is concerned. We can’t get any sort of push for a first down, QBs are constantly running for their lives, errant snaps, holds that negate a touchdown in crunch time. Still pathetic after 3 years!

That makes me wonder a little. Do most schools just have one OL coach? I know Bo had two with Garrison/Cotton and TO had two with Milt/Dan. I think I would rather have that set up than having a separate TE coach, who is only coaching one guy on the field while the OL coach has to coordinate 5. Just a thought.

I didn’t think of that but you’re probably correct if this is the case. It is too much responsibility for Austin who is still learning on the job in a tough conference.

Probably been discussed already, but will all players just keep their same grade status next year? So three freshmen and a sophomore starting in 2021?

This combined with cold weather and Martinez being turnover prone makes me think Rutgers loads the box and blitzes like crazy

really the only anomaly there is the true freshman. its not uncommon to see sophs and redshirt frosh starting on a lot of teams. and NEB young OLs came into the program ranked very high nationally so they already have the size and strength that many young OLs dont possess. these guys could be around here for another 4 years after spending 2 years here already. i can't imagine very many of them will hang around that long

I still think Wilson is a little better than Piper, but I guess the coaches see more upside in Piper so they're letting him start. You can't blame youth when you willingly substitute them in for guys who are older and more experienced.

It's been the same way for 3 years. I don't know why people think things are magically going to get better without changing anything.

Except that Scarlet was talking about Nebraska football history, not what is common in college football today. Without a doubt, this is the youngest line of starters Nebraska has ever fielded.

That is why Austin needs to be removed or SF gets 2 Offensive line coaches..

How many power 5 schools have this combination of three freshmen and a sophomore starting? I assume not many, thus an anomaly

I don't believe Austin is going anywhere. Nebraska legacy and bigtime Frost buddy. However, if he is canned, how about getting Bill Callahan back? If he could patch up previous hard feelings with Tom Osborne, we could have an awesome line. He was a good recruiter too.

Yea he is going to fire his buddy for ex Nebraska head coach who is coaching the ex-skins.... Not going to happen but it would be a great hire..

He played well. The only guy getting destroyed was Farniok as usual.
Corcoran got beat a couple of times but oveall I think he was a pleasant surprise. I'm not as worried about left tackle for next year as I was before tonight. Big strong kid. Granted Rutgers isn't OSU, but they still have some darned good D-1 athletes on that defense.
