Feel like Michigan State and Rutgers are two of my favorite
Most of them have been pretty cool. Iowa and Wisconsin fans are the exceptions. Michigan fans are a different bunch but they aren't total buttholes, just a bit arrogant.

Ohio St and Minnesota fans are probably the best of the bunch

Haven’t meet all the fan bases face to face but Michigan St, Northwestern, Purdue and Rutgers fans where all down to earth..

Michigan fans have a arrogance about them and I enjoyed Minnesota fans conversations not to mention they hate Ioway as much we we do..

Wisconsin students are the absolute worse to be around and I have Ioway friends who are huge fans so I can’t say their bad but they do enjoy our down fall and it gives them a sense of accomplishment....

Used to date a girl from Northwestern, and she took me to homecoming. Loved the 'Cats at that point (1988-ish). Then she dumped me for another elitist. I've hated those bastards ever since. ;)

Agreed. Minnesota fans are super nice. Sparty genuinely appreciates the game of football win or lose. Wisconsin fans are drunk asshewels.

I was surprised at how welcoming PSU fans were, but I was there right after the scandal which humbled them quite a bit.

Illinois fans don't even care about football. I was in Champaign once when they beat us and people weren't excited, or rude, or apologetic. Just kinda confused.

Iowa fans are actually pretty nice, like us but without the NC memories. But if I hear "Hey, I know a good one. You know what the 'N' on Nebraska's helmets stands for?" one more time, somebody's getting the deep-fried Twinkie knocked from their mouth.

Yea, that one and the other one they like to use “were is your Apex jacket”

I like telling them “I’ll bring it next time it keeps me warm knowing we have won National championships“..Winking

I've lived among the Iowa fans for years. They know we've won NC and exactly how many we've won. An Iowa fan who is a friend of mine told me most Iowa fans just like to irritate Nebraska fans just to hear the Nebraska fans go to the but we've won NC and you haven't because it just keeps reminding Husker fans what a failure the football program is currently. So remember the next time you use that as a come back line that the Iowa fan is laughing and thinking how pathetic.

I’ll take that under consideration but you do know that Apex made Ioway Jackets too because my buddy still has one, and that was before they won the Big 10 outright....Winking

Rutgers fans were awesome when I went there for the '15 game. I was also pleasantly surprised by how well we were treated by the PSU fans when I went there in '11.

Interestingly enough, every Husker road game I've ever attended and saw fellow Husker fans, they were straight up trash.

For the most part fans you meet at games are normally pretty cool, I have nothing bad to say about any experiences with Nebraska fans, Purdue fans are another good bunch, Wisconsin is hit or miss, Tailgating with long time Badger fans is fun, Some of the younger fans not so much. Also agree that Rutgers fans are great.
Message board “fans” and real folks you meet at games are totally different animals.

I haven’t had interactions with as many of the fan bases as in the Big 8/12, but here are some thoughts:

The Bad

Iowa: The online fans are out of control, insecure ********. Never seen anything like it, truly disturbing. I went to the Iowa game in Lincoln back when we first joined the conference and they seems perfectly nice. Obviously not anymore.

Wisconsin: I visited Wisconsin several times back in the late 90’, visiting friends, and loved it. Going there as an opposing fan, is a different story, belligerent, drunken jerks. At least we are nice drunks, right

PSU: I expected more. I thought they would be a lot like us, but man are they a white trashy fan base. Reminded me of an NFL fan base.

The good:

OSU: Super nice and knowledgeable people. At least the ones I met in Lincoln and online. I’ve heard it can be a lot like PSU at their home games though.

NW: Not a real engaged fan base, but nice and I had a lot of fun at games there.

Purdue: Fans seem cool, kind of like NW were they aren’t rabid, but are gracious and smart.

Honestly, I miss the Big 8 fan bases and college towns. Mass St at KU, Aggieville at KSU, Harpos at Mizzou. Norman and Boulder were fun. Those were the days.

Not sure what team you are a fan of, so if it's Iowa don't take offense to this:

No matter how many losses Iowa has, their fans claim they are better than all teams with 3 or 4 fewer. Iowa goes 8-4 and they will tell you they are better than almost every 11-1 team. They can go winless and still claim to be better than every 6-6 team. Its weird to the point of delusion.

You guys were really friendly on our visit out there when visited in 2014 and 2017.
Omaha was a great place to visit and the people were outstanding.

Speaking of fan bases, have any of you noticed that Big 10 commercial that shows the teams fan bases (i.e. an old man wearing a Michigan hat). The commercial shows every teams fans except for good ol’ Nebraska. Maybe this was filmed before 2011 but come on, we are members of the conference too.

I’ve been to many of the “better” road stadiums throughout the Big10 for Husker games. Honestly, I had the best time in Iowa city and the fans couldn’t have been nicer. Welcoming to their tailgates, offering beer and food etc. I think we get blinded by the handful of message board Hawkeyes who stain their fanbase. I had a great time at Ohio State as well. Wisconsin fans were a bit more “un-friendly” I’d say compared ton others. Michigan State was pretty blah, neutral all around and didn’t really like the game day experience that much. Northwestern sucks but was fun because its all Nebraska/Visiting Team fans. Illinois sucks but the people were very pleasant. Haven’t been to the Michigan or Penn State but are on my list. Its amazing, out if all the fans I’ve personally interacted with, it just feels like Iowa fans resonate the best with me, probably because our states are similar and most different from all other big ten states.

Most are pretty good but of course there are jerks in every fan base. For me, the worst
are Wisconsin fans and it is not even close. Rude drunks and those are the good ones.

PSu students are complete trash but the alums and older folks were cool.

Agree with the poster about internet Iowa fans, they are the worst. The ones I’ve met in person don’t coincide with the internet *** hats.

Lately I think you even hate yourself.. You’ve become a very negative person month by month since the football season started..
I'm only negative about the horseshit products NU puts on the field/court.

there is nothing to be positive about in that aspect. we have the single worst men's athletic department in the country. it's embarrassing as someone living outside of the state. I am ashamed of my alma mater.

thanks for noticing.

I grew up hating Nebraska being an Iowa fan in SW Iowa. Rough High School years when you guys were on top in the 90's.

Now being in the same conference and actually going to Lincoln for every game they have played, the experience couldn't have been better. Have had a great time with your fans and have always had a great time. I think the online feuds between the fanbases get a little crazy and sour some of our real life experiences.

The worst real life fans are Wisconsin and it isn't close.

All the fans I have encountered have been great. The people that have these stories about bad fans always make me think they are looking to be offended and/or being the super annoying Husker fan type that tries to "educate" other fans about being a fan and understanding football.

Wisconsin: Tons of fun, didn't hit up tailgate spots, just the bars, it was a blast. Literally zero issues with anyone at all. Girls were not hot.

Purdue: Buying beer was an ordeal, weird laws, can still smoke inside bars? Fans were awesome, the bars were fantastic for the breakfast club, tons of fun, tailgating was a blast, loved it.

Minny: Lame tailgating, bars sort of sucked, people were nice.

Northwestern: Blur tailgating was awesome, fans were cool, didn't really seem to care about the game.

Illinois: Fans are super nice but not into it really. Bars before the game are flat out a blast, tailgating could be epic there because of the Grange Grove. I can see why their students don't leave the bars to go to the game. Those bars are packed.

Michigan: Boring AF, tailgating it nice, I guess. Bars are horrible, everything is far away. Fans were nice. Would not go back.

In person, most all fans I have met are great and love just talking football. There always is smack talk but all in fun. Maybe Wisconsin does not fit this mold.

Now when you include posters, you have idiots for all teams. Sometimes, I do not believe they even are fans of teams they represent on line, just like to stir things up.

Good luck Friday
