LMFAO are you serious?? Just do a 2 minute google search and you will see there is huge value in mining in outer space, and probably a lot of other things we don't even know about. I was going to explain all the riches available in space and post links but there is soooo much information on this, if you don't believe it and are unwilling to look then me posting it probably isn't going to help.

You cannot seriously believe that in an infinite universe (100billion stars/planets X 100billion stars/planets) that this one rock we call earth is the only place that has resources of any value.

Some thought we were going to be rich after we landed on the moon as well. Turns out the rocks look nice in school classrooms around the country. What a joke. No one really knows what minerals is on any planet or moon but somehow everyone will be rich. I guess the input costs are manageable if you the taxpayer to foot the bill.

Nah, private industry will go after that once they get the production/factory aspect figured out. That's the expensive part.

Our understanding of physics and geology is way ahead of the 60s.

Trust me, if there's a solid rock of any metal in the asteroid belt they would know pretty damn quick. and getting it from there to here is extremely basic physics...

They can find what some of those rocks are before we ever take off. It isn't perfect but it's more than close enough. If there's a big one full of a certain metal we want we will likely know.

Slowing it down is a little harder. But nothing we haven't done before.

You can spend 250 billion bringing back a block of rare earth metals the size of Rhode island cubed.

Enough for the world's electronics for hundreds of years. You neuter China in the process and make a bunch of money.

Aluminum
Iron ore
Copper

Whatever. There's a pretty good sized planet worth of material in that belt and it's a hell of a lot easier to get at than the stuff here.

The reason people are excited about it is admittedly partially the exploration and little boy in space aspect. But there's a realistic aspect to it that you only scoff at if you're being a curmudgeonly little *****.

It's possible. Not a tomorrow thing. But within 30-50 years it will happen if we don't blow up the planet first.

IMHO there is something to this.

About 6 weeks ago, my youngest brother, who is 42, found out that my folks were voting for Trump. And he absolutely lost his ****. Not going to air family laundry, but he said and wrote things that you wouldn't say to your enemies.

As a family, we rarely, if ever, talked politics growing up. Just routine small talk type stuff mostly.

I don't know if that's being taught in schools. I don't know if it's an effect of bring able to insulate yourself on social media with only like minded individuals. But it's a real problem.

I'm 44 and never had a single talk about politics in my life with my family. It wasn't until I saw my family members posting and sharing misinformation on Facebook that politics was brought up at thanksgiving last year.

We didn't get in any fights, but it's become awkward to be around them. They openly talk about conspiracy theories now, but there is nothing I can do without ruining my relationship with them. I can't compete with the news outlets and social media that feeds this to them 24/7.

It is a real problem but I don't see it getting better. I think we need less technology not more, but that is never going to happen.

Social media, fake news and the internet of things will give anyone whatever answers they want to hear. Especially left wing garbage.
