Change in Sideline Assignments

I'm too lazy to sift through the thousands of posts from yesterday, so I'm hoping someone can shed light on it. Was is mentioned anywhere why Nebraska decided to change the sideline assignments this season? Ever since I can recall back to the 80s, Nebraska has been on the east sideline and the visitors on the west.

I thought the Big Ten had a rule about whichever side the home students are on, that's the sideline that's to be assigned to the home team. Obviously with hardly anyone in the stands this year, it doesn't make a difference. Mostly curious if it was mentioned anywhere why the change was made?

I always figured the visitors were assigned to the west side so it would be their players who were yelled at to "Siddown!"

It may be easier for the players on the field to see play signals from the sideline easier with the sun at their back?

Also all the fans were on the West side so that conforms with the rule. Probably had a few people in sky boxes too

The NCAA used to have a rule that had the home team on the same side of the student section. Not sure if the Big 10 still has that rule.

I've always thought our team should be on the west (skybox) sideline. Those hot afternoon games in August & September our players don't get any shade and I think that beats you down some. Take advantage of the eventual shade from the sky box.

This was the first time Nebraska used the west sideline since 1961 and allegedly the move was made because the Huskers felt it would be easier to see the opponent's sideline hand signals from the press box.

I would expect to see NU on the west sideline for the remainder of 2020, perhaps longer.

I assume it's temporary, but I also know one simple thing about sports....you don't f*** with a winning streak, so I would expect to see NU on the west sideline for the remainder of 2020.

I am in favor of having the entire team stand behind either goal post if it helps improve the stagnant offense. Just figure out the issues with the offensive personnel groupings and/or play calling. Winking

However, our staff in the press box wanted to be able to see the other teams signs, cards, etc. made sense to me. This seemed like the good time to make the change.

West sideline was always good to OU, Texas, Wisconsin and Iowa. Let the other team look into the sun and roast in September.

Right up there with 9am local time west coast kickoffs. A pandemic is the perfect time to make this kind of change.

I don't think the other one will be permanent, though.
