There is not much of an extra “heavy expense.” Food, gear and tangible supplies are the variable costs. Travel too but assuming more players will not travel because of increased scholarship limits. The big expenses are mostly fixed for NU. The number of coaches will be the same. NU will not have to add more professors or classes. The dorms aren’t full.

Yes, the athletic department will have to “pay” the university for the additional scholarship athlete but that is an accounting practice more than a real expense. Would be a different kind of impact if NU were the type of school turning down applicants due to having no room for more students.

What about the health related expenses? I’m sure the insurances cost out the roof as well as physical therapies, etc.

This also affects how comfortable a qb is at throwing at a particular wr. Imagine being an NU qb, you are blamed for every INT, the fans boo you, and the coaches bench you...except we never know if a WR is in the right place at the right time, if they have the right footwork, got off the ball correctly against press coverage, or are even using appropriate leverage in choice routes. A qb is basically put their careers in the hands of a set of wrs who haven't play big time college football. That is why they both target Wandale, and the TEs but seem to slow their progressions down if those guys are covered. Timing routes take faith.
I totally agree QB’s take too much blame for INTs when each one is different. Total number is still an indicator, but circumstances matter.

The other side of this for us is our QB is routinely bouncing balls off the turf or sailing passes over the head of a guy who’s standing still, or throwing swing passes behind target.

For swing pass and standing still examples, it doesn’t matter so much if a guy took a wrong angle/route. That’s “see target, deliver ball to target.”
Same with broken down plays. Find an open guy and get him the ball.

QBs had 10 months to practice timing routes with at least a handful of guys, 3+ months to practice timing routes with a few more guys, and I’m not sure I’ve seen one completed to a WR yet. Only one or two I remember went to TE.

We have a unique ability to get the absolute least out of the top rated players on the roster.

I believe Oliver Martin will be a great contributor once he is cleared to play. But, time will tell.

It portends all sorts of things - classes rated higher than performance, affects other recruits,

And it goes the other way as well sometimes the throw is up for grabs and WR makes the QB look like an all pro. Bottom line is you have to put the ball close to where your guy can get it, our guys, not so much.

Manning received more hype than the new freshman sorority coeds and has delivered zilch. Hype rarely translates into reality.

I have not heard he was cleared. Last time I asked Sean it was a no for both Iowa transfers
FWIW. Officially announced today Oliver Martin granted immediate eligibility. Have no idea that the once Michigan, once Iowa WR will have any impact though.

Physical Therapy is billed to medical insurance for most Universities. The Athletic Dept. has a sportsmedicine division with athletic trainers and Therapists these are all under a contract salary.

If they are so good then why did we get them? That’s probably the question we should be asking ourselves. I could be wrong but reading between the lines sounds like he may not like football that much, just does it because he has always had a physical advantage until now. Could also mean that he isn’t grasping the playbook. Some learn it quick, some take sometime and some never learn (in other words they are dumb).

We recruited him because he was the first or second best JC wide receiver.

FWIW, we are looking for WRs. This is good news.
Lost in the discussion is that Levi Falk the grad transfer from USD had a nice catch and run after the catch Saturday. It looked like he got dinged on the tackle and left with an injury. He looked really quick on that play.

Well, getting hurt on the only hit he's taken isn't going to help us.

How can somebody not even know how to line up be the #1 JUCO recruit? You dont do that amazing at the JUCO level and then forget how to play. I dont believe for a second that he doesnt know what to do. He has personal issues I'm sure.
