Very interesting. I never thought of it this way and I agree with him.

Roughly 1000 assistant coaches in division 1 and probably fewer than 20 openings for a head coach per year. Vast majority will be assistants their entire career. Tom Osborne had amazing tenure year with his assistants which many a tribute to his success, the consistency.

If you're an up-and-coming assistant and you get a chance to coach at Alabama or Clemson, that's a fast pass to the top. I personally don't like to see a lot of turnover among coaches. I do like to see guys not cutting it to be replaced though. I think we all sensed that Troy Walters was not that interested in being here. Mike Riley seemed like he recruited washouts at a local bar.

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. No disrespect intended at all OP. But it's just NOT that complicated. Find a QB who makes solid decisions and hits open receivers, we'll start winning games.

Find a QB who is phenomenal at swing passes. Then the offensive genius will be on his way.

Open receivers? Our WR was terrible last year and it’s laughable who Frost/Lubbock continue to trot out there.

I feel bad for Frost...he has lost 60 players since 2017 who could be on the roster providing depth. He is paid way too much, as are all CF coaches, but that doesn't change the fact that he took over a mess, and the UCF script didn't quite pan out.

1. Decent walkons do not exist in a world where your 13 year old brother can watch hudl and find talent.
2. There aren't big strong farm kids anymore...they sit all day in a combine...so we aren't getting the DT, Oline beasts that we used to get from nebraska. They are obese now.
3. Recruiting classes are going to lose 1/2 of their players to transfers, retirement, injury...

This means the normal fan clock needs to be extended...you aren't building a team in 3 years any more...you aren't covering up roster issues with walkons anymore, and nebraska isn't going to win with nebraska kids anymore. Give Frost time...be patient...and don't do anything to cause more kids to transfer. We need depth, competition more than anything and keeping kids happy and on the roster is the 1st step.

Osborne did not have a lot of future head coaches on his staff either. What he had were veteran assistant coaches who were totally devoted to Nebraska football and not to their future career as a head coach somewhere. Joe Paterno had the same kind of coaching staff as well. So this criticism of Frost is a complete red herring. The problem isn’t that we don’t have enough super star assistants. The problem is that Frost hasn’t figured out yet how to get his offense to play with discipline. And that begins with holding players accountable. Up until he was benched last Saturday, Frost had steadfastly refused to hold AM accountable for his brain fart plays or his horrible passing. That MUST have an effect on player morale. It gives the other members of the offense the impression that the coach plays favorites and isn’t really concerned about getting his best players on the field. Fans do not appreciate nearly enough how important team chemistry is to winning. Just look at PSU getting hammered by Maryland. That is a direct result of PSU getting beat by OSU the week before after having already lost to Indiana. So there was no chemistry for Maryland. They did not want to be there.

That is why I think the benching of AM was THE most important thing Frost has done so far as head coach. And we will know a lot more about the immediate future of NU football by who trots out at QB against PSU. Because if AM comes out as the starter I will turn off the damn TV. Because win or lose, it will be a bad long term move. Accountability is the coin of the realm folks in college football. And that is on Frost. It has nothing to do with how many of his assistants can be head coaches.

something is wrong outside of talent. neb clearly has more talent and depth than most of the teams in their division. Neb has highly recruited players sitting at #4 on the depth chart. Depth isnt the issue. Whatever is wrong at Texas might be the same concern at nebraska. whatever that is. I have learned over many years that sometimes smart players outperform more talented players. Is part of the recruiting evaluation the mental ability of the recruits?

I don’t blame our failures due to the lack of future head coaches but it did make me realize that we don’t have any on our team. Maybe Held but not sure about anyone else. On a side note, I do like the adjustments that Chins has made. It’s telling that with a roster upgrade (although minor), he can improve his unit.

We do not have "talent" at many key positions. RB for example is VERY young outside of a juco guy, a guy who will not play in the NFL. WR is very young or green, the guys who are ready are very poor WR talent-wise. Our oline is thin, young, and losing our center hurt us. And qb, which is a our strongest position isn't good enough to make up for a collapsing pocket, an inconsistent running game, and nobody getting open. I can tell how ignorant our fan base is collectively by their hyper focus on qb. It is our strongest position by far, both qbs are our best athletes on offense..both should be on the field. It is the rest of the offense that is sus.

Different scenarios, but Fleck went 11-2 in year 3, Tom Allen went 8-4 in year 3 during the regular season and is 3-0 in the Top 10 in year 4. There is enough talent that has come to Lincoln that we should clearly be ahead of Illinois, Purdue, Northwestern and Minnesota. And probably even Iowa and Wisconsin. Scott, 3 years in hasn’t established an identity at all. Iowa is tough, bring your hat to work, Wisconsin is a dominant run team, Minnesota is rowing the boat with excitement, Brohm is putting explosive offenses on the field.

Name one thing Frost has done well so far, recruiting is the best thing he’s done, but he has lost many of his big name guys.

Frost encouraged most of them to leave. He doesn't get a pass for that.

There is a lot wrong with his tweets, and it doesn't require much thought.
He has had some doozies over the years. This is the guy that claimed Frost would never come to Nebraska, because we aren’t a Nike school.

That is not necessarily correct wrt Greg Austin or Travis Fischer, or with growth in Eric Chinader. I sure respect Bryan Wilson, but he may have to admit he was in error in the future

At the high school level? Again I’m not knocking you but we’re 9-17 and it will get a bit worse I’m afraid. I’m just not seeing that we have a great young staff. Is it blind faith? Why do you really think all of our staff is going to be future head coaches?

I look at Northwestern and they are a damn well coached team. I guess all of their coaches are going to be future NFL head coaches too.

Notice I said “if we start winning”. And I did not say NFL head coaches. I want this team to win 10-11 games a year. And in order to do that, we have to have good coaches. If we win with these coaches, schools will want them to become their head coach. But not right now for sure.

Should have been holding either way, but on the qb a little for not throwing it at the hold.

Remember when Tommy Armstrong did that @Wisconsn, when Westerkamp was getting mugged in OT, and they still didn't call it?
