I think you will see a 2 QB rotation at minimum Saturday. Martinez days look to be numbered.

I think AM will start Saturday and will be his last chance. Luke will come in if need be. Frost knows once Luke starts AM's career is over unless injury from Luke.

If Martinez starts on Saturday I certainly won't be a Frost supporter from then on. Frost should be able to see what everyone else does in that Martinez can't throw accurately and if we can't pass we can't win. Swallow the pride, make the change and move on.

I’m afraid of this too. Regardless, things will get rocky with Luke too. He did not handle snaps well and struggled in the red zone. Threw that atrocious pass that hit a lineman in the back. Having said that he is more poised in the pocket and moves the chains better than AMart. I think it’s time for a change but Frost tends to be stubborn.

If SF is that stubborn not starting Luke then this program will never move forward and at the end he will be paying the consequences..

You may be right. But in my opinion, Frost needs to go with a 2 QB system until the choice becomes clear. Each QB should get a half until one stands out in GAME conditions.

I know Frost and many people don't like a 2 QB system. I get that but considering both how critical the QB is in this offense AND how many games we've lost already what have we got to lose at this point? After one of them stands out, then we can go back to a 1 QB system.

Continuing to experience these losses and doing nothing about it at the QB position is pure insanity.

This is what I'd do. I'd start Luke this next game (because Adrian stunk it up last game) and put Adrian in for the 2nd half UNLESS Luke was having a sensational first half. If Luke had a really good first half, then I'd stick with him for the second half too. The point being if the two QB's really were equal in practices this fall, then Adrian has already had his chance and now Luke deserves to get his.

Luke had moved the chains in a "limited" number if snaps. True. Maybe it is time to see what he can do over a reasonable period of time.

On one hand, no, you don't want your starter looking over his shoulder on gameday.

Which is almost certainly why McCaffrey wasn't inserted at some point in the first half against NW, even with Martinez' performance being what it was.

Because rotating them in and out ends up creating consistency issues and sends the signal to the team that there's not much confidence in either.

On the other side of the coin, how fair is it to LM, to be put in at the end of the game each week, trailing, to ask him to pull our bacon out of the fire?

"Sorry, kid, the starter and the rest of the offense dicked up this one royally, why don't you see if you can pull a couple big plays out and win it for us?"

I don't think there's going to be some magic transformation by bringing in the next QB. But Martinez has had his shot. He's been given plenty of opportunity over the last 3 seasons. And, Martinez vs NW is who he is. It's who he was all season last year. And again this year. For whatever reason. Time to turn the page.

I totally agree with you, specifically in the 3rd sentence. We need to go with one guy. The back and forth disrupts the flow of the game and it creates more internal conflict.

Not only that but if the starer is moving the team and scoring points with out a turnover there is no need to put in the other especially 2AM , that was obviously what transformed on Saturday with Frost finally making a move to put in McCaffery..

I don't even think he has to be sensational. If he's having some success, not a lot of critical mistakes and the game is close or we're leading, let him continue. I look at the PSU game as a blank canvas, at home.

OK kid, here's your team. We've prepared you for this moment, now show us what you've got kind of approach.

If you actually listened to Frosts interview yesterday when he said it was up for grabs I don't get the sense that AM will start. I bet Luke starts.

Headlines says QB position up for grabs is coach speak for "let's pacify the fans". He will never remove AM from job.

Then be prepared for many more losses and more of the same sketchy qb play from #2. If Frost continues to ride this guy and we continue to see more of the same then Frost won’t be here as long as most seem to think. Capping out with 4 or 5 win seasons may be ok at Maryland but not here. Heck, 4 or 5 wins this season would border on brilliant.

I know 2 QB system isn't ideal, but this screwed up short season is the perfect time for it. Get the young guys experience and figure out the QB situation.

Going from memory Frost went on to say that not treating QB like any other position where the player who gives the best chance to win plays is a disservice to the team. BUT, he went on to say they will make those decisions based on practice this week.

So maybe the problem is Frost plays the best practice players and not the best game players. So I'm not sure I would bet on Luke starting. Maybe 2AM will have another terrific week of practice.

Maybe he will. I don't think AM will give up his position without a fight. But Luke seems like the kind of kid that brings it in practice everyday, not one of those "gamer" types that just shows up on Saturdays.

AM is a proven loser on the field. we've seen enough.

he should not only be benched, he should be 3rd string. I hope he never takes another snap at NU.

@headcard is right. time to get young guys some game action. that includes Smothers.

Agreed we need to move on and start LMcC but saying you never hope he ever takes a snap is a little harsh especially when we also need to hold some of the offensive linemen accountable as well .. Either QB doesn’t need to be playing behind the sticks way to open...

If it’s me you start Luke just to show AM he can’t sit on his hands here. You need to let him know those performances cannot happen.

If he wants to play 2 QBs, then play Luke and Smothers.

Luke should start from here on out.

none of the 3 numbers you reference are correct. impressive!
Mariota was 67% Milton was 64% which is avg 65% combined and Adrian was 59%. Which over the course of a game is 1 completion. I’m not sure if our record would be any better if he completed that 1 pass a game!
