This is Not a Talent Issue

Having better players would be a tremendous bonus. Kinda important.

At this point it’s required because we know this staff ain’t doing **** with average talent.

But, we continue to sign some pretty low ranked players. It will become even worse now. Recruits see the sinking ship.

Exhibit B: Never being able to get off the field on defense when it’s 3rd & 5+

I’ll give piper the benefit of the doubt but why after three years with no fans are we still getting procedure penalties with no crowd totally unacceptable.

Our defense has improved over the Three years, but not quite enough. Pieces are coming together.

Our offense has regressed.

Our over all team level and mentality has regressed.

Overall frost isnt going to compete for the conference at this rate.

I think we have enough talent to win. However, I think the talent issue could become an issue....I have never believed that talent will come to a program just for playing time...if that were true there would not be habitually bad programs out there (like we currently must be now).

If this season falls apart as it apparently is doing....it will affect recruiting. Frost will not be able to use the "come here and help us rebuild" line . IMHO

1-6 is my prediction now.

Playing guys with less speed and talent is on Frost. Until he he does a serious self evaluation and realize he stinks, expect much more of the same. I feel we were all sold a beautiful car with no engine.

So you’re saying Nebraska has less talent than Northwestern? The only team likely with less personnel talent than Northwestern is Rutgers.
At what position are we significantly better than Northwestern, because I didn’t see it on the field.

NW developes, Nebraska doesn’t. If Fitz had our roster we would certainly be better than 9-17.

I don’t even want to think what NW would like if Frost was their coach. That would be comical.

That’s the point, Nebraska out recruits everyone in the west, but never develops anyone. No, Northwestern doesn’t have better talent, just better coaches and evaluators. It’s not possible that teams like Nebraska whiff on every decent recruit. It’s coaching. Talent will run even more stale if we keep losing.

Northwestern had 2 guys on offense...the Qb and Anderson. That's it. I can't believe we lost to them.

That had me screaming at the sky.

That’s really the only option when your third down receivers are Kade Warner, Liewer, Austin Allen.

But hey, the offensive genius believes the Big Ten will have to adapt to him.LaughingLaughing

I’m not giving up on coach frost but he needs to make some whole sale changes his offense has no identity it struggles to score touchdowns in the red zone.

Northwestern has a QB who can deliver the ball on time and accurately for the most part to WRs who are open. We have a couple of really athletic QBs who struggle in the passing game. When you get in the opponents red zone timing and accuracy are of utmost importance. We threw 2 picks there. That is the story of the game. Period.

I had to attend a funeral this afternoon and recorded the 2nd half. A few observations:
1). As someone else mentioned, this is NOT a talent issue. Nebraska had better talent than Northwestern.
2). If there were any question whether Chinander was a liability to this program or not, there shouldn’t be now. Awful defensive scheme. Tackling drills is all they should be working on. I’ve never seen this poor of tackling on ANY Nebraska team.
3). Luke needs more snaps. He will stop making mistakes once he is more comfortable. AM will just continue to make mistakes. Luke is much smarter and we’ll get better.
4.) Both QB’s are NOT being used to maximize their skills. They are constantly put in to situations where there is more of a likelihood of failure.
5) Coaches lost the game today, but I’m not giving up on Frost unless he sticks with Chinander.

When your best offensive play is when everything breaks down and your qb scrambles for a first down its obvious there is a problem

We won’t beat anybody if we play like we have the past 6 quarters. The mistakes on offense are mind-blowing. In addition to the penalties, how many plays broke down at the snap, especially on first down? We look like little kids in their first game far too often. We can’t get into the rhythm that an offense needs because we constantly get behind the chains and end up in down and distance where the defense has every advantage.

And when are the quick passes to the sideline going to payoff? Probably not on 3rd and 10.

All through the game I kept wondering how NW can always have really good LB's and we don't. Coaching?

A good QB is absolutely vital. Mediocre quarterbacking = mediocre offense = damned hard to win games.

Coaching is an embarrassment.

Depends on what you mean by talent. Both teams suffered from self-inflicted turnover problems that impacted the game. Both had costly penalties. With both sides believing their team got the worse of it in key situations. By my eye, Nebraska had the top end athletic edge. As evidenced by the special teams units that edge did not run deep. And Northwestern does have some athletes. There's a reason they have 8 interceptions in just 3 games.

The difference IMO was the Wildcats had more of the better players.. Guys who execute and anticipate well ... with the mental discipline and confidence to rise above their athletic limitations ... especially at crunch time ... to make plays. It takes more than size, speed and athleticism to be a talented football player IMO. And it often takes only one player to have a mental lapse for the play to fail. We saw more than a little of that today.

I appreciate the frustration of the Nebraska fans. But Frost is your guy. Stick with him and hope he successfully recruits more good players ... not just athletes trying to become good/talented players. If he can do that the wins will come. And because you are Nebraska you are only more wins away from then taking the next step up the ladder.

Just a thought from a college football fan that remembers when Nebraska ruled college football.
