Do you think the Huskers will be in the top five for most improved teams this year?

It's possible that our final W/L record won't reflect the progress we've made, but I believe we will be able to say that the Huskers are one of the five most improved teams over last year.

What do you think?

It's very possible but I think we are still 1-2 years away from being good. Could see the slow shift this season

We need to wait until most of Reilly’s players are gone and Frost has the players he recruited for his system...wait...what...

If Nebraska finishes above .500 I'd say that would probably put them in the conversation. It's not a proud thing to say, but a team with three consecutive losing seasons having a winning record despite one of the toughest schedules in the country would have to be considered a serious improvement.

Regardless of Nebraska's season, who are the other teams in contention? I don't care how they finish W/L wise, Arkansas has to be on the short list.

I know we are all awaiting the season, but this post seems to be jumping the gun a bit, no? We haven’t seen one down of Nebraska football and we are already wondering if Nebraska will be a top 5 improving program? Why?

This is a 3 win team with the schedule we are looking at. 4 wins would be great. But I'm expecting 2 to 3 wins. This year is essentially an exhibition year so I'm not gonna judge SF and Co. too hard.

If this is considered 'jumping the gun' then I would argue that every single thing we talk about (as it relates to Husker football) prior to the start of the season would then too be considered 'jumping the gun'.

This is what we do on a Husker football forum.

Sorry I didn’t mean to be negative. I much prefer talking about the Huskers than the drivel of politics on this board.
I hope the Huskers are vastly improved this season. I think the culture should be fully implemented by now. I just think it’s hard to rank top 5 most improved programs until we’ve seen a body of work. That’s the type of analysis we see at end of the year. I imagine BYU will be in that discussion along with Arkansas and Missouri from what we’ve seen so far. Maybe even Coastal Carolina. I just want to see them play a couple games before we opine about end of year recognition.

This is Nebraska's 46th, and (fingers crossed) last, straight bye week, so the fact that people are still talking about literally anything football related is impressive.

For me, I think we are going to be vastly improved for the fact that we have an intact O-line & I feel like we may get a little bit of Linebacker production this year. Still has to happen, but I am optimistic. My reasons for optimism are:

O-Line - Intact & starting to build depth. I think Austin will have a serviceable group here.

RB - Mills is good and have actually a little bit of depth (although unproven). At least we aren't going to have to plug in Wandale all of the time.

TE - Have depth & maybe can take some strain off the O if we establish them early.

QB - Have 2 guys pushing each other. I still believe Martinez is the starter, but it will help that Luke is pushing him everyday.

WR - Have a couple possession receivers healthy, but also have some young guns that can fly and take the top off. If we complete some homeruns early to make D's honest, I think our Offense is going to look real good.

Special Teams - Can only be better right???

D-Line - Yes we have some loss, but there are some athletes at the position. There may be some drop off, but I think it will still be an ok group.

LB - I love Reimer and I think he is going to be a lot better when it is time to matchup in the passing game. I also hope Miller and Honas can take a few steps forward and just make us a little better here. Any improvement is going to make us a hell of a lot better.

Secondary - Might be getting a little thin, but still have some playmakers. The return of DW is huge. Fisher will have these dudes ready to roll.

I'm not saying we are a conference champ contender, but I think we will be better. If we get QB play, LB Play and any ounce of special teams we are going to be a tough matchup for anyone. Lot's of Koolaid, but gbr.

NC has to be at the top of that... ol Mac is doing a heck of a job... Perhaps hes a much better coach than anyone ever gave credit...

NC is improved, but the ACC is awful. IF you get even a touch better you will look leaps and bounds better because the conference sucks so bad. I think it will be hard to judge a lot of teams for the fact there is no out of conference games.

While I agree that NC is certainly better, I have a feeling that they will come crashing back to reality HARD as soon as they play some actual competition.

I don’t know how I feel about this season yet. I sit on the fence with a lot of what I’m seeing posted here. My top two thoughts are yes HCSF should have a solid culture in place by this point and in any regular season I’d expect to at least see a winning record at a minimum, with that said the BIG obviously did us no favors with the new schedule, so I’m struggling to find a .500 season in there...

Now before anyone says anything no I’m not complaining about the schedule I’d prefer to play the difficult schedule as it will truly measure how far we are coming along. I don’t call it a moral victory if we play close to a team, you either win or you lose! But In that win or that loss you can see how competitive the team is, and how the talent measures up. In short you can see the progress that is being made one way or another, and anyone who denies that is just being flat out ignorant or stubborn, or both.

We as husker fans are all tired of the losing seasons, and we all need to be honest with what kind of shape that team was in when HCSF got here. I know I was in denial, and thought that HCSF would be able to right the ship faster, or at least hoped he would. Yes there was some talent on the team, but the culture wasn’t there, the team had a quitters mindset and was used to losing, and giving up once things got difficult. I still trust HCSF can do this but I don’t think I’m going to judge too much off this year unless I still see a team that quits, and isn’t even remotely competitive, like in the HCMR days.

Brown really is a great coach and is recruiting very well back in North Carolina. I wasn't a fan of him at Texas, but grew to appreciate him when he worked for ESPN and the game UNC won last year where he got choked up post game was a genuine display of emotions that made me want to pull for the guy.

I would have loved to have seen the UNC/UCF game that got canceled, but an 8-0 start for UNC wouldn't be out of the question given the schedule they drew. That's a definite improvement from a 7-6 2019 regardless.

If you guys are to improve it has to start up front on the lines. That’s been hurting you guys the most imo. Then next you would need to upgrade the defense. After that you’ll be sitting solid.

The DL was fine, it is our LB'ers on D. We return our entire OL this year, so should be fine there.

no clue my man but we definitely have a chance to be. If we improve from last year and okay like we are capable, then yes, we could definitely make the top 5 most improved teams. Honestly, going from 5-7 to a 8-4 range team (how ever that would translate to our 8 game schedule) would put us in that running. A lot of teams are actually struggling this year to be honest so it wouldn’t be that hard to accomplish.

Yeah North Carolina is a really good team this year. I was definitely impressed with their speed.

knock down, drag out, kickem in the teeth, chokehold fist fights to the last play against the better teams and physical domination against the weaker teams. if this happens could care less what our record ends up.

I couldn't disagree more. 4 ******* wins is a great season? Move to Kansas.
