He stepped into a good situation. The KSU program he took over was stable and full of disciplined, well-coached players.

Some other coaches aren’t as fortunate.

That program is waaaaay better than it should be. Kudos to them, and very smart to lick that guy down long term. In all honesty, they are kind of hard not to respect, and Snyder was freaking awesome.

roster was not in good shape. still is not. Paper thin at most positions. Recruiting was about #22 on Snyder's list of things to do

He's also probably not going to stay if he has a chance to move up. Snyder was the rare exception. Lightning is not going to strike twice in Manhattan. These contracts are somewhat helpful for recruits but are meaningless to whether or not coaches actually stay.

It's hard to say with him. He's making a ton of money in a place that isn't expensive to live. I think a guy like him could make the decision that "this is enough. I'm set and I can win here".

That's always the problem with a school that isn't in the top tier. Once they get a good coach they often can't keep him unless he has a special reason why he wants to stay.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Texas tried to get him someday.

His coaching style and mentality is a perfect fit for K State. This is a perfect fit for both. The ND State program rarely accepted transfers and believed in red shirting players. They believed in developing players and strong family atmosphere. The players this year that are making plays are freshman. He as the chance to build a dynasty there. His philosophy is to dictate on offense with pound and ground and hit over top, have a solid defense. Boring football for some but it wins games. I loved watching NDSU the years he was there. If the opposing offenses don't have the ball, they can not score.

When Bohls left for Wyoming, he took most of the staff with him. Klieman had to build his staff and replace the starting QB. He still won 4 NC's there. He can change the way the Big 12 plays games. Why leave a program that will compete for NC's.

AD made a great hire just like Snyder was many years ago. Klieman is a small town Iowa guy that may want to ride it out in Manhattan. I’ve said for years that nobody does less with more than Texas and nobody does more with less than KSU. Bottom of the barrel in recruiting every year and stays steady as a winning program. Respect it.

It’s too early to say how good of a coach he actually is. They lost their first game and OU basically gift-wrapped them the second game.

You do realize that they dealt with some serious Covid issues that impacted them immensely in that game? Yes they lost but there is some context that needs to be included regarding that game. See their results against Oklahoma.

Yes, yes
Oklahoma probably wins that game easily if not for all of their turnovers.

I wonder if he would make a lateral move to Iowa if it opened up.

He took over one of the worst if not the worst D-1 program of all time and produced this record.

215–117–1

Yep, sounds like someone who doesn't know how to recruit.

Kansas State had a cumulative record of 299–510 (.370) in 93 years of play, which was easily the most losses of any team in Division I-A at the time.

He recruited the Junior Colleges like nobody else.

Rumor is pretty strong that Michigan State was after Klieman after Mark Dantonio left. The Spartans did hire Klieman's defensive coordinator, Scotty Hazelton.

Klieman's new contract was signed before K-State beat OU, so that win had nothing to do with it.

Klieman said 35-40 players were out for the Arkansas State game. Everything should be taken in context.

He's a perfect fit following Snyder. Plays with the same tendencies: control the ball, great special teams, tough defense. And like the Wizard, Klieman is conservative, modest, thoughtful - the opposite of guys like Tom Herman and Mike Gundy.

The key to him staying in Manhattan is the AD, Gene Taylor. They are like brothers. Taylor was NDSU's AD and named Klieman head coach there. Taylor later went to Iowa City for a time before coming to K-State.

Klieman was raised in Iowa and played at UNI. So, Iowa would be a logical next step if Taylor were to take that job. Otherwise, I can't see either of them leaving K-State.
