I am ready for some football. Really liked some of the things Collin Miller said. He talked about pre alignment, gaps and run fits. Coach Ruud mainly emphasized knowing where the help was coming. Sounds like Miller and other ILB's have benefited from the extra time to walk thru this and they are playing faster. Really like what they said there.
Sounds like Reimers is always around the ball & making tackles. Henrich is doing well calling out the D.

They also talked with the DT's and I feel good about that group. I think they will have good depth. D.Thomas, Daniels and Stille mentioned for their experience & leadership. The coach mentioned Rogers,Robinson,Riley and Green are also in the picture. Sounds like the younger guys have made good improvements in the weight room with Duval.(Ty&Rogers mentioned) Also, one of the players mention Colton Feist as a fast guy. I think they will play a lot of guys. Sounds like Walker&D. Jackson were weight lifting partners with Ty. That's a good pair to train with as they are workers in the weight room. D-Thomas said he feels good against the run and has that down pat. Trying to get better at diagnosing slide protections in the passing game.

I like your optimism. But where have we heard this **** before? Remember one thing, these guys are playing against our offensive guys in practice. Maybe our offense sucks. Maybe they both suck. We won’t know diddly crap until we play against another team.
I am not drinking one single drop of koolaid this year.

The truth probably lies somewhere between you and the OP. Ruud certainly has his work cut out for him though.

I was hit by a car once while on a bike ride, they were doing 50, I was doing 5....flew farther than most men ever will without a jetpack and landed on pavement and got busted up pretty good. When they were loading me up in the meat wagon I told the paramedic "I ain't no drug addict but i'm in pretty bad shape here and need some help" he replied "We're hooking you up right now " I said, "What are you giving me"? His response..."Morphine"...I said "FILL ER UP"

I'll say the same here, as the season draws nigh, fill that big glass of bright red Kool Aid up to the freaking top baby!!!!

Maybe it’s all the Koolaid I’ve been chugging, but I see our defense having a breakout year. I think we tackle better, create more turnovers, and get off the field on 3rd & longs.

This is the first time in over 5-6 years since we had the same DC for 3 straight seasons. Even Mike Riley changed DCs before year 3 with Bob Diaco. Chin came in and took over the worst or 2nd worst defense in the BIG 10 and every year he’s been here, he’s improved the defense each season. This year, I’d assume he’d improve on it even more. How much more, we will see that part soon enough. We have solid secondary lead by D Williams and D Bootle, we got some options and talent on the Dline and some options at LB lead by Jojo Domann. Lets see how it goes during year 3.

ILB was the 2nd-most group that needed improvement and I thought it was all about their fits so I was very happy to hear talk touching on that subject. I have no idea what the results will be but I am glad they are scratching that itch.

The group that has the biggest improvement to make is OLB's. I hope we get a good progress report on them next time. We need a pass rush! I think that group has their work cut out for them. It's going to be a challenge.

I also wonder what impact three outdoor December games will have on offensive numbers. Going to be a wild December.

I have no idea what to say or think about Collin Miller but I’ll give W Honas a pass on last year. The year before he tore a ACL (or something like that) and missed the whole season. Last year was his first full year back. He has flashed some and I think the talent is there. Let’s see how year 2 goes for him (meaning back to back years of playing).

Good point those games could be very miserable. Cold games are about toughness.

Injuries can make you hesitant. He needs to go back to his jr college, waterboy style of hitting someone.

Pennsy, love you man!

We’ve All been on this rollercoaster ride together, and you’ve been transparent through it all. From the koolaid days of Riley’s 3rd season being a great one (I was there with you) to Frost’s hiring and the turnaround that was supposed to happen instantaneously (again, I was riding shotgun on that too!).

Since I’m an optimist, the koolaid is strong once again. My hope is that this season shows what Frost is building, and that we have something to cheer for!

Thanks for being real... you’re the best!

Man crush over...

Ha. Great post Timsun. You had me belly laughing. I WANT to drink the koolaid this year but I just can't. I drank it, like you in year three of Riley and both years of Frost. Hell, I drank it in Callahan's last year as well. Remember how Sam Keller was going to put us back on the map? Lol. I just want to see us win more than we lose this year and go to a bowl.

As I said before, it's good to have veteran guys but it's time for the better younger kids to play. I have seen a ton of bad film by Bootle, Honas, Miller, Dismuke.

Morphine is an amazing drug. I once broke multiple bones in my body in a sky diving accident. My chute only opened partially and I landed hard in some trees. The trees saved my life, but damn was I in pain. The paramedics gave me morphine too. Holy ****. That is all I am going to say Holy ****.

So what is a little koolaid after our mutual experiences with morphine!! Lol. Maybe I should have a little. I am thinking a little more optimistic about our offensive line this year. Hmmm.....

I watched the whole thing and geez, that one dude literally asked every player the same 'how do you feel about cardboard cutouts in the stadium'.

That's some quality reporting right there!

It’s okay to sip the kool-aid a little bit. We all know it’s harmless fluff and their actual play on the field is what really matters. It’s the grape flavor-aid that you need to avoid.

I always pay attention also to “who did we lose?”
I think this is one of those years where we lost very little that isn’t replaceable.
On defense: I think Lamar is replaceable with what we got. DL hurts, but we got solid options mixed with experience.
Couple that with guys emerging and developing, and I personally see improvement defensively. Not guaranteed, but just don’t feel the losses outweigh the gains.

Offensively: We lost no one. No one who matters.
JD? Meh- I’m over it, we got some ballers that will fill his shoes and then some.
Gains all around.

Special Teams- We don’t have Isaiah Stalbird, but enough players on the team to get the job done with some proper coaching (via ST analyst). Gained guys who can probably kick a ball.

This. There is no warm up this year. We’re going to know what’s real and what is fluff by noon on October 24th.

It's like the boyfriend or girlfriend who keeps telling you they have changed and things will be different. The first few times you hear it, you believe it but after a while you settle in to a wait and see and prove it to me mode.
