Welcome to a unfree press
Dennis Dodd, a MU grad stirred the pot.
Well, him and half the “loyal” Husker fans on this board.
Dennis Dodd, a MU grad stirred the pot.
What a myth that urban waswhy isn't anyone pointing the finger at tOSU for getting Fields instead of starting JB who was ALREADY on their team?
Truth is it is not a science but an educated guess.
I was very vocal about wanting Nebraska to go after Burrow, both out of HS and as a grad transfer. However, I completely see where Coach Frost was coming from. At that time, we had 3 QB's rated higher than Burrow as recruits and Burrow was about to get beat out for the backup QB spot at OSU by a kid now playing WR at Miami. It's not like anyone had a clue the kid would turn into the #1 draft pick.

We were recruiting Luke.I know we had Gebbia and 2AM, who was the third? Surely not Andrew Bunch.
I believe Patrick O'Brien was still around.I know we had Gebbia and 2AM, who was the third? Surely not Andrew Bunch.
I'm sure he thought it would be like Milton 2.0.I also wanted Frost to go after Burrow. Frost betting everything on a true freshman who didn't even play his senior year because of injury, seemed like a big risk. I would have tried to get as many quality QBs on the roster as possible.
But I have a feeling Frost had to pretty much promise Martinez the starting QB job in order to get him to come here.

OK, you may be correct. However, Martell was the backup to Haskins in 2018 and played very well. So wouldn't it be Burrow, that had to pass Martell?Plain wrong. Martell was allowed to compete, but there was never any indication that Martell had in any way passed Burrow.
No. Burrow was evenly matched with Haskins. Haskins won a Michigan game as a replacement for an injured Barrett and had gotten to be second string because Burrow injured his hand. Hard not to pick Haskins no matter what Burrow does during practice or final spring game (when he outplayed Haskins).OK, you may be correct. However, Martell was the backup to Haskins in 2018 and played very well. So wouldn't it be Burrow, that had to pass Martell?
JB went grad transfer May 8, Luke committed June 4.I believe Patrick O'Brien was still around.
We were recruiting Luke.
So,does Luke fit better than JB? And, at the time,Luke showed more ceiling

Would he then leave? JB wasnt available til may of 2018, luked committed June 2018.Burrow would have been competing for the 2018 team so Luke would have not been in the equation...
It doesn't seem like you hate to say it.I hate to say it but I believe wholeheartedly that Frost promised Martinez the starting job indirectly. Bringing in Burrow would have gone against his word.
There's a big difference between bringing in a graduate transfer from a big time program looking to start and a sit out transfer that honestly NO ONE saw as a threat to start at QB ever. But hey, let's crucify Frost on this cross forever. And for those who say “Nobody saw it coming”, my question for you is, we were willing to bring a transfer from UCF but not one from Ohio State?
Joe ended up in the right place to get him to the #1 spot in the draft. If he came to Nebraska he never was going to win the Heisman or a NC. At LSU he had the advantage of a great QB coach, superior athletes and a great opportunity. If he came to Nebraska the only thing he would have had was an opportunity to play at the same school his dad and brothers played at and that might have got him and opportunity to become a free agent.I was very vocal about wanting Nebraska to go after Burrow, both out of HS and as a grad transfer. Thanks for the self righteous speech. As for Fleck, I think there’s one thing we can all agree on - you can have him.I'm a Minnesota fan, born & raised. I always liked Nebraska though. Underdog state, humble state, Republican state, fly-over country, loved watching Turner Gill run wild (and to this day I think it was him who stayed a summer 2 doors down from me on Carson's Bay in Minnesota while he was playing. I always support the Big Ten.
I only want Frost to fail in humiliating fashion when I hear the outrageous unfounded attacks on Fleck.
Advice. Set the narrative. Your strong point is....recruiting. Whenever anyone talks crap about Burrow or anything, respond with your recruiting rankings.
Agreed. He would have come into a rebuild and would have a struggling team around him.Joe ended up in the right place to get him to the #1 spot in the draft. I’m not going to speculate on if the starting position was or was not promised to 2AM because I wasn’t there for his recruiting process.I posted the below on another thread but I believe it’s appropriate for this one.. here goes my opinion:

We could have had him if we were willing to open up the QB competition like legit programs do. Hell, Clemson wasn’t shy about replacing their experienced qb with pretty boy.
We should have quit recruiting Luke and taken JBI’m not going to speculate on if the starting position was or was not promised to 2AM because I wasn’t there for his recruiting process.
what I will say is that I have been very vocal on this whole get over it. JB was transferring out of OSU because he didn’t land the job there either, and no matter how anyone tries to swing it there was no way of knowing if he was better then what he had on the roster at that point. Yes you can make the argument for bringing him in for depth, but at the time we had 2AM coming in, Gebbia, and O’Brian. I’m not sure on the timing of bunch but I believe we brought him onboard after O’Brian left. The difference between bringing Bunch in and not JB had nothing to do with if Bunch was better then what we had, it had everything to do with him already knowing Frosts system and having a QB that could talk with the others and help teach them the system and be serviceable if 2AM and gebbia couldn't pick the system up in time. This whole narrative of us passing because frost asked a legit question is getting old, and for everyone that knew he would turn into this congrats you have a great future as an NFL GM, or if your talent is predicting the future hit me up so I can get the lotto numbers from you, I’ll split my winnings with you (just don’t try to read into the future in if I was serious about that)
I'm sorry, but I have a hard time believing Frost was asking the question to the reporters because he actually wanted to know what they thought. Although it may have sounded like a question, I bet it was more of a cocky rhetorical question. That has been his style when talking to the press. And it's something that I hope he changes.

I remember watching him, everybody raved about the other qb, he was good, but got injured, Brady blew him away.Who would have thought coming out of Michigan Tom Brady would be one of the great QBs in NFL history. You can play this game all you want but I’m sure Frost had his vision for the QB position going forward.
