For all of you stars don't matter type people:

One had no stars and was ranked the 56th best wide receiver in Louisiana. Not sure how he ended up at LSU

I believe he went to LSU because his two brothers played there. He ended up at LSU because stars do not matter lol. Constantly amazed that people continue to bring this up as if Rivals and 24/7 opinion on high school talent has anything to do with winning football games.

actually it does. There’s a reason why the top teams these days are the same teams that always recruit top 10 in the country regularly. Sure there is always that magical team that does great with low three star players but you never see those teams winning any playoff games or National Titles.
The top talent coming out of high school is not hard to spot. You are giving the recruiting services WAY too much credit. If you saw Kobe or Lebron in high school would it be hard for you to "properly rate" them? Any correlation between winning football games and stars is extremely loose. There may be a correlation at the very top, but it's not hard for Rivals to bump every guy Alabama/Clemson/Ohio St. offers when they are consistently winning.
To understand how the stars game can be manipulated and give you a deceptive picture of a football team, just look no further than Nebraska itself over the past 5 years.
The most important thing to take away though: Rivals and 24/7 are BUSINESSES. Their objective is to make money. From there you can shake out the rest.
This data is not fully accurate. We had Suh and Prince but we weren’t in the B10 when they were drafted. Nevertheless, this chart reflects our on-field performance. Stars do matter!

exactly. If you want to compete for conference titles, runs at the playoffs and National Titles...then you have to recruit at a high level along with good coaching. You have to have both...end of story.
So what were Iowa and Wisconsin's team rankings compared to Nebraska's the past 10 years? Did the stars matter?
I get where you are coming from. But how did they fare against legit competition? And they still kicked our teeth to the ground.
Generally, Bucky and Herky's recruiting rankings are somewhere between 30 and 45, with them usually being close to each other in the overall rankings. 2020 Bucky 247's rankings had Bucky at 25 and Herky at 35.So what were Iowa and Wisconsin's team rankings compared to Nebraska's the past 10 years? The big dogs of college football; Alabama, Texas, Ohio state have used all of their influence to make sure that stars matter more than ever. The limits on prop 48, jucos, time with players, number of coaches, walk-ons, meeting time, field time, satellite camps have all hurt teams from less saturated areas for talent. Stars mattered much less 20 years ago because you could load your team with kids and inevitably a couple would rise to the top...it came down to how much do you care to invest not a roll of a dice to see if you can get the most top 250 players...For all of you stars don't matter type people:

Recruiting services like Rivals and Scout exist for convenience. Who cares if 5 star players like Trevor Lawrence are easy for Rivals and 24/7 to judge! The programs landing the 4 and 5 stars are the programs competing for National Titles every year. The top talent coming out of high school is not hard to spot. And what has Iowa won? Don’t you think they might win more with more talented players? It’s not an either or on player development and recruiting, you have to have both.So what were Iowa and Wisconsin's team rankings compared to Nebraska's the past 10 years? Did the stars matter?

They'd also win more with better coaching. Sure they play fundamentally sound, but Iowa's lethargic offense hasn't been doing them any favors. And what has Iowa won? I recommend watching the Lenny Cooke doc. It goes over how he went from the #1 High School player to not. Also the first appearance of L James in the circuit.there are some who watched LeBron play in high school and still rated Lenny Cooke above him and Carmelo Anthony in the summer of 2001. Rating recruits is a crazy biz.
All the facts seem to point to “Stars” matter. I don’t think there’s any evidence proving it different.
Schools start recruiting players well before they are even assigned stars so how can stars matter? What matters is recruiting the best players in the country, the stars those players are assigned after the fact is irrelavant.
Fact is NU recruits the most stars of any B1G West team. How's that working out for us? Facts are we suck right now.
That’s a very valid point.tuition is now free for kids from families making 60k/year or less
what's a scholarship worth, again? lol
