I will bet that it happens. Alot of questions will be asked between now and June. Its hard for me to me buy the second wave because the first wave never happened.

I'm betting on a complete season. September is a long ways away in the media. What say you?

It's not happening and continuing to live in fantasy land isn't going to fix the problem.

I just have to shake my head at those who deny what is happening right now. It amazes me that an extra 50,000 people dead and another 14000 considered critical at this point in time and the first wave is someone's imagination? WOW

50k compared to the initially projected 2M is quite a discrepancy. don't get me wrong, even 1 single death is a tragedy.

nobody's denying COVID exists, permeates the zeitgeist and is something to take seriously.

but there's certainly reason to wonder whether or not the other shoe is going to drop.

I very much expect the 2020 season to at a minimum start late and I will not be at all surprised if it doesn’t happen at all. Until we have a viable treatment and/or vaccine this is going to be our new normal as we move in and out of society.

I strongly believe we will have a season, but there's a good chance that the non-conference games (ie. the first month or so of the season) will not take place. In-addition, I think we'll see less bowl games this year simply due to the fact that smaller sponsors may no longer be able to afford the costs associated with hosting a bowl game.

I don't deny what is happening, and it is a nasty virus but on the same token do you freak out the flu every year as it kills a huge number of people? I know they aren't the same thing and Covid seems to be more dangerous, but same concept that a virus is taking a lot of people each year. The media and a lot of people in positions of power have blown this out of proportion and constantly try to increase our fear. It does suck because of the loss of life and it is nothing to screw around with, but on the same token if you really look into the CDC's numbers your chances of dying if you are under 45 and healthy is very very very low. We as a country need to become healthier and practice better hygiene and we will probably do a lot better with a lot of stuff that attacks us.

Viruses and other health-related pandemics will come and they will go. Always have, always will.
We need to learn as a society how best to deal with them, but we were not put on this Earth to live in bubbles and collapse unto ourselves. Living in fear is not living.

I don't get this pushing the season back thought process. If anything I think we will be able to play the first half of the season. If there is a 2nd wave of this it is going to start breaking out again towards late fall. So I think we miss the 2nd half or last few games if we miss any at all.

That is what I heard that later this fall and early winter we could have a second round of this along with the common flu which would make it worse than the first wave.,

Who is denying anything? Everyone acknowledges there is a nasty/ deadly virus going around. We know it is taking lives, but so do lots and lots of other things. Are we changing our lives for all those other things? What many free thinking people are starting to question is it really worth shutting down the world, destroying jobs, lives, and yes health. The number don't seem to justify the actions. So far this has infected .02% of the population of the world and killed .00264%. When looking at US it has infected .2% and killed.01%There must come a point that people start to wonder is the cure causing more damage than the virus.
Initially we were seeing death rates in the 2-5% range. That is what sent the world into a panic/ shutdown mode and rightfully so. Now as we are learning more it is appear many many more people have been infected with either mild or no symptoms. This is driving that scary death rate to much lower levels. Looking like at or below flu levels if it the data holds.
I agree these numbers are with all the precautions in place. If we did nothing it would be far worse. How much worse? The experts don't even seem to know how to predict it correctly.
I agree precautions probably need to be taken. Packing stadiums and close contact needs to be limited. Those high risk individuals still need to be protected and take precautions. Do we need to be at the extremes we are at? Doesn't seem so.

I can't speak for the original poster, but I took it not as denying the virus itself but denying the severity.

In this article, 99% of college AD’s think we will have a season. They don’t all agree on what it will look like, but they agree we will play football.

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that there could be some potential for conflict coming, and glad it's just been protests so far, but they will indeed open the country up.

The population is going to move on with it, and the potential for a second wave is massive. Eventually most people will get exposed to it and some won't make it. There are new treatment options coming too. But fairly soon, I also think it won't be talked about too much.

All that said, we will have a season, but I think September is just around the corner, so they really need to be doing what they can to prepare now.

“There’s too much money at stake, it impacts too many people,” a Power Five AD said. “If there’s no football, we will have bigger issues. This will be worse than the Great Depression and make the 1930s look like a cakewalk.”

It seems like the AD quoted in the article is a little out of touch. The latest number I could find was for 2017 which estimated that the total college sports industry was worth $13 Billion annually. If the bar and restaurant industry, projected to be worth $899 Billion in 2020 (obviously before the lockdown) can be shutdown, than I don't think college football is off limits. Not to mention the optics of athletic departments continuing business as usual, while their colleagues in academics are being furloughed or let go.

I think he's referring to the fact that if there's no college football, that will also mean no bar/restaurant industry and and so on.

you know, 'bigger issues'.

I completely agree, we will have a 2020 season. Now if it’s on time or late...we will see then. There is way to much money in college football not to have it.

Now the Coronavirus being fake or “NEVER HAPPENED”....that’s just silly. Of course it happened. There is no dam conspiracy going on. Just accept it like the rest of us are and let’s get through this. GBR

So what, shut the country down every flu season going forward until there's a vaccine? Sounds real plausible.

Could be. But if we have no non-conference games, we will likely be looking at 3 losing seasons in a row. My guess is mid October start date and possibly none. Who knows at this point?

Tl;DR It's obvious football will be played. It isn't a political statement. It is just true. While COVID 19 is bad, it isn't the black plague. It just isn't.

This will be a third page news item in a few weeks. It's just so obvious. What is the average Americans willingness to swallow garbage spewed because of politics? This isn't what they said it was.

I wonder how many lives were saved by staying at home? I wonder what the offset was by less people killed in driving related accidents, shootings, work accidents, etc?
